Here's another possible update:

http://www.nbc4colum...914/detail.html

Here's one thought I've been having for a while now, the shootings have become something of an urban legend, I say that because, while there's a shooter or shooters, alot of people have taken advantage of the shootings to make it appear that the shooter/s are reponsible for alot of other shootings. Not only have cars been shot at, but a school, several houses, and a great number of cars, many of which aren't linked back to the gun that killed that woman in Nov.

Just a few thoughts about the subject.

They finally have a suspect, he's considered armed and dangerous, but there's not alot of details yet.

The task force is looking for Charles A. McCoy Jr.

McCoy, 28, is white, 5 feet 7 inches tall and 185 pounds. He has brown hair and green eyes. McCoy drives a dark green four-door 1999 Geo Metro with a black hood with license plate number CGV7387. McCoy should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees McCoy should call 911. A news conference is scheduled for about 7:15 p.m. Watch it live on NewsChannel 4 and nbc4columbus.com The serial shootings at vehicles and buildings scattered along or near Central Ohio highways began in May, though most have occurred since mid-October. Twenty-four shootings have been linked.

Witnesses to the last shooting on Feb. 14 reported seeing a shot fired from an overpass by a clean-shaven white male in his 30s with dark hair, wearing a hat and sunglasses and driving a small black sedan.

Franklin County sheriff's Chief Deputy Steve Martin said the shooter may live alone, or has the freedom to come and go at all hours of the day and night. Martin said that if he is employed, he has flexibility to his schedule, NewsChannel 4 reported.

He said the shooter has access to weapons, most likely a handgun, and may have shown the weapon to a close, personal friend or associate.

A reward for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the shooter or shooters responsible for Gail Knisley's death on Nov. 25 stands at $60,000.

This could hopefully be the break they've been looking for.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Reuters) - Police on Monday identified a suspect in the two dozen random, sniper-style attacks along central Ohio highways and asked for the public's help in apprehending him.

The suspect, Charles McCoy, Jr., was described as white, 28 years old, and the owner of a dark green Chevrolet Geo Metro with a black hood, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office said.

The car, with Ohio license plate number CGV 7387, matches the description of a vehicle spotted by witnesses parked on highway overpasses, where the sniper is thought to have fired shots at passing cars.

Breaking new, and maybe good news!

Apparently, McCoy has a history of mental illness and so far, he's still only a suspect, that's mainly because he's still on the loose.

The man wanted by police in a deadly string of highway sniper attacks has a history of mental illness and is believed to have a semiautomatic pistol and ammunition, authorities said Tuesday.

Charles A. McCoy Jr., 28, lived with his mother within miles of where the gunman's bullets killed a passenger, shattered windshields, dented school buses and drilled into homes and a school.

"McCoy has had mental health issues in the past and is currently not on medication," the Franklin County Sheriff's Office said in a bulletin released to police departments across the country. "He is believed to have suicidal or homicidal tendencies."

McCoy's sister Amy Walton pleaded Tuesday for him to give himself up.

"Charlie, we all love you very, very much and we're all concerned for your well-being," she said, reading a statement in front of the home where McCoy lives with his mother. "Mom and I need you to call us. We will arrange for you to come home. We love you, we miss you."

Authorities identified McCoy as a suspect Monday and released his picture, vehicle description and license plate.

Walton did not take questions after reading the statement and walked back into the house. McCoy's parents, both state employees, could not be reached Tuesday and neither one was at work.

Chief Deputy Steve Martin would not say what evidence led investigators to McCoy, but newspaper and television reports said Tuesday that McCoy's family gave authorities at least one of his guns.

The Columbus Dispatch, citing unidentified sources, said a relative contacted police and said McCoy could be a suspect. It said McCoy's father, Charles Sr., later gave police a 9 mm Beretta handgun, and on Monday it was ballistically matched to some of the bullet fragments recovered in the shootings.

And he lives not too far away, from where I live.

Las Vegas Police Nab Ohio Sniper Suspect

Quote

LAS VEGAS - The man suspected in two dozen sniper shootings that have terrorized motorists along Ohio highways was arrested at a Las Vegas motel early Wednesday.

Charles A. McCoy Jr., 28, was taken into custody two days after he was named as a suspect in the shootings that left one woman dead and pierced cars and homes in the Columbus area, said Las Vegas police Lt. Christopher Van Cleef.

Things aren't quite over with yet, it's possible he might not face any charges. :glare:

McCoy was taken into custody Wednesday morning and arrested unharmed at the Budget Suites Motel in Las Vegas, located off the Las Vegas Strip. He was charged with felonious assault out of a shooting incident Dec. 15 on Brown Road in South Columbus. More charges could be pending.

The felonious assault charge is a second-degree felony that has a maximum penalty of up to eight years in prison.

The task force investigating the serial shootings said that McCoy was the prime suspect in the shootings that have taken place in Central Ohio over the last 10 months.

There were no extra restraints on McCoy Friday in Las Vegas, such as mitten over the hands, which are used on people who are deemed unpredictable and a danger to themselves, Laven reported.

"Nothing more than the general high-profile case, as far as I know," said Curtis Born, who was McCoy's public defender in Las Vegas.

But discussion about using insanity as the crux of his defense began immediately, Laven reported.

"I think they do have plans to do a mental examination," Born said. "I think it's a critical element here."

His mental health might play a part in the defense.
