I'd say spammers and telemarketers. Or more specifically, the people who pay them to piss people off.
I remember reading a thread somewhere once where people were grumbling about telemarketers, and a telemarketer posted pointing out that a lot of people do it because they just need the money. Having said that, some people just stoop so low to make money that I can't respect them (promoting morally questionable products (ie. porn, etc.)). But if they're selling stuff like frozen vegetables, it's their employers I'd like to have a word with.

They're all scum.

You can't really wipe any out because some are part of a neccessary evil, some you can't wipe out (they come back under a different name).

In all of them, though, you get good versions.  Except pornography.

i don't believe this is an issue of profession per se. It is an issue of who personally is offensive
I picked telemarketers as they tend to intrude on what I consider 'private time' but they do not offend me, truly

The category I want is missing.

Telemarketers that ring 10 times and then don't respond immediately because the calling was computerized.

That *IS* annoying until you get it down pat who that is, and use the pause to hang up on them before they even get a chance to speak.

Granted, it still doesn't change the fact that you've had to stop whatever you're doing to get the phone but it's better than nothing....

Actually, I've stopped getting the phone entirely when the caller ID says Out of Area.  ;)  Unless I'm doing something where the interruption to tell them to go away is less disruptive than the interruption of having to listen to the phone ringing like crazy.

I barely pick up the phone any more unless I know the caller.  However, my mother-in-law, of all people, comes in as "Private Caller" and a friend of my wife's comes in as Out of Area, although I usually recognize the number.

Caller ID helps *a lot*, but in the end, if I've gotten out of my chair to look at it at dinner time, I've already wasted as much effort as I am going to on such as call (since I'd probably hang up on them anyway).
