Just finished watching the movie The Bourne Supremcy, which is what gave me the idea for this poll.

If you could, would you be an assassin for higher? I'm not talking about like a hitman for the mob...would you be a covert black ops operative, doing political assassinations and what not?

If so, why? If No, why?

no, i'm a humanist, any violence which isn't in direct self defense is wrong. Going out with the specific intent to murder someone isn't in direct self defense, and is, ergo, wrong.

Oh, sometimes it sounds so incredibly tempting... :ninjadeath:  :p

But no. Outside of self defense, killing is wrong. I don't believe I have the right to take other people's lives away, even if it would solve so many problems.

Sure - within reason.

Some people, like Osama bin Laden, need to be taken care of, and although I have certain hesitancy to take any life (I usually catch bugs and put them outside rather than squish them), leaving someone like OBL to roam free isn't such a great option in my books. I would never be a mob hitman or something like that - and I would have to trust my superiors were making correct and moral choices when they ordered me to do something; killing is something I hope I never have to do, but I do understand how it may be neccessary.

To willfully plan and bring about the death of another human being is something I could never do.  Although I have thought of another interesting question:

Imagine you're a King, Queen, Emperor, Empress, etc.  Would you order the assasination of another human being?  How about declare a war? Order someone executed?  Imprisoned for life?

And what circumstances (if any) would warrant these choices . . . and how does one differ from another (i.e. Execution vs. Assisination)?

Some people I know have described me as cold-blooded, but even I'm not so cold-blooded that taking lives seems like an interesting career path.

I know....that's what makes that particular job seem so appealing.

I can't believe there are enough people for us to assassinate to keep assassins busy. But if there were, I might do it, since I have no hesitation about ending a human life to preserve other human lives. (When the war on terrorism began, I briefly considered signing up for that a few times, too.)

I cast my vote, so I suppose I should give at least a brief explanation.  Yes, I would consider assassination a valid career option, for myself and/or others.  Why?  The answer is very complex, but I'll give a very simple summary here.  If anyone wants to try to understand a bit more, or convince me of the error in my thinking, or just flame the hell out of me, go ahead and PM me.

When wars are waged, who dies?  The individuals that instigated the war?  Not usually.  If that were the case, I believe war would be a much more unusual event.  Assassination of criminals, regardless of political status, makes much more sense to me than waging wars or trying to capture criminal kingpins only to lock them away for life.

There is much more to it, but that gives a decent start.

Love and laughter!

It'd depend on the benefits and retirement package.

(And by "retirement", I mean in a sense other than that used in "Blade Runner", too.)

As to the poll, I voted "No". Couldn't even think of doing it.
