Just starting the thread for folks who might be at World con and to share the play by play of any goings on.

Well the flight in was uneventful. My first thoughts of Boston are these. No one with a brain should drive a car in this town nor those without them.  The roads, highways and overpasses are laid out like a child with a unhealthy love of hot wheels tracks. You should be getting combat pay for it.

Now the hotel.

Nice very comfortable beds but not like Toronto. (Which is still beating everybody else hands down for comfort of the bed) The suite we lined up has a nice fridge and we have made use of a supermarket a few blocks away. I have lined a way to send stuff home so I will be not dealing with some of the stuff I had to bring with me.

Well the pre reg stuff is done.  A number of good improvements have been made here.

First Registration for the Literary Beers and KaffeKlatches are  only start being avilible at the 24 hour mark. Also they are not having any on Thur to avoid a rush of folks.

Also space is going to a bit larger depending on the number of folks who want to attend.

LV, hang on!  That's not practical at all!

Eat dinner first and THEN clone yourself three times--one to do the dishes!  Otherwise you have to feed three times as many!  :D

G, have fun, I'm jealous.  WorldCon is the BEST.

I'm being a lightweight shutter bug again. I'm getting fandom, panels, the sights, scavenger hunt and art shots from this event.  :hehe: ( I need my own camera.)

I just found out the Xerps bid party is here! They're from Indy, and they ROCK! The official drink of Planet Xerps is Skippy :alien:  (Damn Skippy)!! If you can't figure it out, Xerps is a joke bid. I plan to drink lots of Skippy and try to keep my clothes on. ... This time.

Paris I have had no luck running into Karin she is on one side of the place and I am on another. Keith, We raninto him at a panel on Writing for Comic Books and then headed down to his Literary Beer and had a nice chat about events and just life in general.

Heropa I ran into "Doc" Smith's Grandson and Great Grandson who were attending a very good exhibit of Doc's work. The Grandson is from Indy which is a blast he might be looking at a few of the area cons.

Yes Nippon won. The upside is the writers will get to see a part of the world and we fans will get to hear about it.
The downside is  few folks are going to want to travel for over 24 hours to get to Yokohama. Which is currently around $900 US for a cheap seat.  So I will likely not be going to the Nasfic. I will save my money. One of the dealers was saying that with at least 3 out of 5 of the next cons being out of the country Worldcon could be looking at losing a lot of US support.

Who afford to travel to Japan? or Austrilia? or England?

The fans are going to need something to make them want to come back. I mean I am looking at the fact if Chicago loses the 08 or KC loses this 09 bids they are doing that there will not be anything but a out of country or east/west coast worldcons.

Why bother even bringing up anything midwest.  Lets just Do LA every year. I mean the Con is nothing more than a wipe out the names on the panels add the new names change a few titles and package it as a NEW worldcon.

So basically my future worldcons are going to be much more limited becasue if they do not want to come to the midwest maybe I do not want to go to their bids. I can spend the money on Marcon and Windycon rather than spend the money I'd spend on WorldCon.

^^^Which is something I don't think the WorldCon people understand, that by pricing the con of the range of people's wallets, they're only cutting their own throats. :(
