Just heard that Arafat may have died in Paris not too long ago, there was a blurb during the presidential news conference, can anybody find a news story about it?

edit:
This is all I can find and it says that no he hasn't died

Arafat dies in Paris hospital: Israeli media
AFP: 11/4/2004

JERUSALEM (AFP) - Veteran Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat died in a hospital in France, Israeli private television and military radio reported.

The 75-year-old had been treated at a military hospital on the outskirts of Paris since being flown out of his West Bank headquarters on Friday.

Doctors in Paris had earlier said that Arafat was in a coma while his top advisor had said that he was in a critical condition.

Well, if he's not gone already, it sounds like he will be soon.

I'd say I'm happy, but considering Arafat deliberately did not groom any sort of successor, there's likely gonna be a lot of chaos in his wake. :(

Well, I can't be happy for his death.  If he has passed on, I pray him Godspeed.

I do hope a moderate emerges, and is able to consolidate authority.

Huh.

I tend to wish death on no man, but in this case? Sometimes the best way for a person to serve the world is to leave it.

Jon that is one of the exact reasons I support the death penalty.

Even if he is dead, it will probably take those "in charge" along time to actually admit it.

Bah. :smirk:

The situation in the Middle East is hopeless. NIETHER the Israelis or the Palestians want peace. To me, whether Arafat lives or dies is irrelevant.

Maybe each side should be given thermonuclear weapons so they could blow each other off the planet. Yes, I know that this statement will annoy some folks, but frankly, I don't give a damn. As I've said before-I'm not out to win popularity contests.

I am sick and f**** tired of hearing of "possible peace talks", bombings blah-blah-blah. That whole area is FUBAR. The idea of peace in that part of the world seems INCREDIBLY idealistic to me.

If my opinions in this post alienate me from folks here-so be it. I don't care.

Well, one side already had thermonuclear weapons as of the early 1980s and they haven't used them yet.

I think the situation is hopeless too.  Anyways as regards Arafat, I won't dance on his grave or anything but I won't be mourning him either.
