The Liberian Union is a UN Member

The Holy Republic of The Liberian Union is a very large, devout nation, notable for its compulsory military service. Its compassionate population of 94 million are prohibited from doing almost everything except voting, which they do timidly and conservatively.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Religion & Spirituality, Law & Order, and Social Welfare. The average income tax rate is 42%. A substantial private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

The people are famous throughout the region for their bleached-white teeth, school uniforms are compulsory, every product goes through extensive safety-testing by the government, and the mob and the police have had numerous clashes in the back alleys of The Liberian Union's cities recently due to the government's steadfast anti-casino stance. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. The Liberian Union's national animal is the nightingale, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Test.

The Liberian Union is ranked 12th in the region and 76,324th in the world for Largest Furniture Restoration Industry.

:wideeyed:  I had gotten my taxes down to 19%!!! Guess I gotta work on it some more...

Snicker - It was not allowing the casinos that upped your taxes I bet. - I dismissed the issue.  Some times choseing the 'best of a bad lot' is the best.

Adopting Feudalism bumped up my economy quite a bit, shaved a bit off my civil rights though.

I also instituted free martial arts training for my citizens, that apparently reduced crime.

And I'm back to being a Libertarian Police State (from Father knows Best), despite my lack of police.

I'd like to get back to being a Liberterian Police State with a good economy.

UN Category: Iron Fist Socialists

Civil Rights:  Superb

The Queendom of Eloisel is a large, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its burgeoning cat population. Its compassionate, cynical population of 36 million are ruled with an iron fist by the socialist government, which grants its people the freedom to do whatever they like so long as it doesn't involve getting richer than anybody else or challenging the government.

The medium-sized government concentrates mainly on Education, although Social Welfare and Defence are on the agenda. The average income tax rate is 21%, but much higher for the wealthy. A small but healthy private sector is led by the Basket Weaving industry, followed by Automobile Manufacturing and Furniture Restoration.

The government's religious works are headed by a New Age guru, marijuana is legal in the privacy of your own home, the latest Harry Potter book is a bestseller, and the government is cutting back on the number of political prisoners executed each year. Crime is relatively low. Eloisel's national animal is the cat and its currency is the bangle.

Eloisel is ranked 2714th in the region and 45,363rd in the world for Most Income Equality.

^Actually, declaring what sort of government you have doesn't affect anything.  It's just a label for vanity's sake.  Calling yourself a democracy doesn't necessarally make it so.

Shal - I'm ruling my nation according to the way I named it.  I actually have three nations... all three of them theocracies of sorts.  They are all being ruled on three different principles:

1. A Theocratic centrist government - (the one I have at Ex Isle) - which believes that the government should get input from the populace but decide centrally on things - and has as its moral center the Holy Script, which disallows certain things from ever being legal.  In practice - this means that I have adopted a laissez-faire attitude about a lot of things, because they are morally up to the individual, but a lot of things (gambling) had to be banned.

2. A theocratic democracy - that assumes that everyone is a "god" unto themselves - some things are disallowed because of scriptures, but in general, the populace can do what it wants.

3. A democracy with a theocratic constitution - so that there is no "spiritual authority" outside of the constitution, but the constitution is build on spiritual principles based on the Holy Script.

Of these - the third has persistently been an inoffensive centrist democracy, while the first has vacillated wildly between an inoffensive centrist domcracy to a corrupt dictatorship, to an authoritarian democracy, to a moralistic democracy. The second has being either a moralistic democracy or an inoffensive centrist one.  I'm having fun with the idea of perpetuating a theocratic government, as you can see. :)

I forgot about my state for a while and I had 5 issues to deal with. But things arent too bad.

Quote

The Empire of Jian Judain is a large, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 20 million are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, corrupt morass -- concentrates mainly on Law & Order, although Healthcare and Education are on the agenda. The average income tax rate is 39%, but much higher for the wealthy. A large private sector is led by the Beef-Based Agriculture, Automobile Manufacturing, and Door-to-door Insurance Sales industries.

The rats are considered a delicacy, Jian Judain's children are widely acknowledged as the most foul-mouthed in the region, thieves are flogged in public for their crimes, and scientists regularly clone human beings for research purposes. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Jian Judain's national animal is the the rat, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the dil.

Jian Judain is ranked 13th in the region and 94,745th in the world for Most Devout Nations.

Shal- very detailed. Cool.

Nation States is down for me right now, but my country of like 224 million mouths is pretty much chaos.

I pass all sorts of cockamamie issues, and as a result our economy nosedived, people marry their housepets, and the city streets are a free-fire zone.

Still plugging away at my little country.  It's mildly fun. And what the heck, it only takes 2 minutes a day.

I've decided to go on a binge of poor leadership just to see what happens.  I figure it works for the Canadian government.
