A BIG breakfast at Burger King

A BIG breakfast at Burger King
Chain debuts Enormous Omelet Sandwich with more calories, fat than Whopper.
March 28, 2005: 12:38 PM EST

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Burger King has unveiled a new breakfast sandwich that's a huge bet not everyone is dieting.

The No. 2 fast food chain debuted its Enormous Omelet Sandwich Monday. The sandwich has one sausage patty, two eggs, two American cheese slices and three strips of bacon.

That works out to 730 calories and 47 grams of fat -- more than a Whopper burger, which the Burger King Web site said has 700 calories and 42 grams of fat.

While the new breakfast sandwich goes against the trend at some competitors to offer healthier fare, some analysts were quoted as saying the new sandwich is likely to be a sales success.

"The critics will still label it food porn," Sherri Daye Scott, editor at fast-food magazine QSR, told USA Today, which first reported the story. "But the average male fast-food customer does not have a problem with this."

Scott was right -- the new breakfast sandwich was quickly criticized due to health concerns.

"Eating like this is a step on the way to a heart attack," Fred Pescatore, author of The Hamptons Diet told the newspaper. "It's irresponsible."

Morgan Spurlock, who ridiculed McDonald's in the documentary film "Super Size Me," told the paper that Burger King's new breakfast sandwich, "should come with a $5-off coupon for your first angioplasty."

I say feed them to the ones in charge of BK's new commercials. Just when I thought commercials couldn't get any worse.

love the counterculture that's developing here. In a world with an insane drive for fitness, there seem to be a number of places and people who thrive on eating the most unhealthy things in the world.

Wow. The bacon is just really pushing it. I mean, a whole 3 slices? Two would've been fine, but 3? They're trying to kill us!

I seem to remember a thread on this board where a cruise ship company was blaming the more heavyset Americans for ruining their seats.  :eek4:

They said something to the effect of: American tourists come in two types; EXTREMLY thin, or EXTREMELY heavy.

Only 730 calories.... Well.. it's a start for the day..
and breakfast is supposedly the most important meal of the day.

Even on a meager 2000 calorie diet that's only a bit over the 1/3rd of the daily allotment.  And I'd be losing weight if I ate that little...

Go ahead and give me 2 of them....  then the 3 double cheese burgers for lunch.... then how about a nice lasagna dinner.  A family size serving will do....

There is a place in the south that specializes in different types of burgers...and what you are talking about (maybe) is a burger on 2 Crispy Creme donuts and deeped fried, they also have a sandwich that is on a large hot dog bun, hot dog, hamburger, chilli, onions, 2 fried eggs, 1 other item (I can't remember) and then this is deeped fried and 2 handful of fries on thrown on top :eek4:  1 woman who was stated as weighing 115lbs commented that she has eaten these on occasion :eek4:  :eek4: It was also commented that with ALL this, it would not be recommended occasionally or rarely but it is a Huge selling item :eh:

Lady Dragon hits the issue on the head. Eating this type of thing might be ok ocassionally. I tend to do the burger meal type thing no more than once every six weeks or so. Most of the time I can't do the combo meals because it's just too much food for me. I look for the small size on the burger and fries.

Actually for this type of snadwich one egg, maybe two pieces of bacon and a bit of cheddar cheese on a small bun or roll, might be the most I could do.
