Katrina Emergency Tax Relief Act Explanation

this is a PDF document but it appears pretty quickly.

This gives in relatively simple English the different tax benefits or other kinds of federal help for individuals and businesses afffected by Katrina.  I believe that means that unless it's amended, Rita victims are not included.

A paper copy of this came across my desk at the law library today and it's very understandable.  This doesn't cover all federal aid, like FEMA,I think, but it's part of the aid available.

Good heavens, you'd need a lawyer to sort out all the paperwork for applying for your hurricane benefits.  Individual property insurance plans are another area all those people have to be concerened with.

:argh:  :dizzy:

apparently, some charitible donations can be tax deductible under this Act.

Since FEMA has given individuals $2535 to be spent on rent (and only on rent), I'm better off in charging my friend rent while not letting her reimburse me for utilities, etc. than either one of us would be if I maintained my rent-free offer and took the $500 deduction.
