Back to the point, I was really hoping someone (and I was somewhat relying on Ogami for this, oh well) could articulate a defense of the Bush change of position from denying knowledge of the leak and promising to punish those responsible to claiming that he'd declassified the information before its release, so it was never a leak at all.

Anyone?

Anyone?

Hmmm...

The Presidential Selective Judgment Defense.

The President, or THIS President, can selectively judge, in the interests of the nation, what is legal, or illegal, based on what he wants at the time, whenever he chooses. And since he chooses to do anything he wants, he does so.

He also selectively chooses to say to the American people that' it's illegal for everyone else, except for him, because when he does it, it's legal.

See, there's this subliminal clause in the law, known only to him, saying:

"Use Selective Judgment, George W..."

"Selective Judgment?"

"Yes, George W.... "

"Selective Judgment. You Select and Judge how to use me. The laws decreed do not apply normally to you. You can obey me, or break me. You can be upfront and honest, or you can mislead. I am the law, but YOU are the President. I have faith that WHATEVER YOU DO, it's always best."

Whatever you do, it's always best..."

Whatever you do, it's always best..."

"Whatever I do, it's always best...."

So, he feels it's his duty to do whatever he wants, and when he gets caught with the slightest smell of impropriety, it's all good, because it's always best for us.

After all, he is the President.

Either that, or he's frighteningly ______________.

Yes, presicely!  He makes the law?  No, no.  He is the law.

And completely oblivious to the consequences.

Since CJ seems to be an honest conservative who cares more about national security than rooting for the home team no matter what, I wouldn't bet on it. And no, that's not sarcasm...
"Some day, after we have mastered the wind, the waves, the tides, and gravity,
We shall harness for God the energies of Love.
Then, for the second time in the history of the world,
we will have discovered fire."
