No, really, I'm serious. I have an odd, sentimental, confusing-even-to-me attachment to Ogami. We've bickered for many, many years, but I really would like to do something to support him while he's over there. And if that means buying an Ann Coulter book {{shudder}}, well, it's a small sacrifice for me to honor his willingness to serve. I'm totally serious. And I think Ogami knows me well enough to know this. :)

Mark: Yes, I (I think everyone) have had differences with Ogami, but something about the guy is loveable. Perhaps it's his permanently hard head. I never thought I'd meet anyone who's head was harder than my own...but Ogami wins first prize!
I applaud the idea of care packages to him...I know he'll appreciate it.

I wish him well and a safe return. I think sending him ExIsle care packages is a great idea.

He has the courage of his convictions, give him that.  And while he hasn't been around much lately, he's "one of us," so we should do what we can to take care of him.

In this context, I suppose that means keeping him in food, socks and underwear, DVDs, magazines of a certain type (uh-hem), books, etc.

I always feared this would happen, but Ogami believes in the war and went to great lengths to fight in it.  I pray he remains safe.  Maybe the evil Dems will get us out, preserve his life and safety, and leave him to gripe about missing his chance to fight for freedom for the rest of his days!

 Wait a minute...that didn't sound quite right.

I won't send him uh..."personal items".

You know, it just occured to me. All of us at Ex Isle just might be able to make some money here. Cause as soon as the enemy realizes that they are going to be going up against Ogami, they just might pay us to take him back.

I can see the terrorists' calling their leader now: "Uh, sir, we've got a problem. They've dropped the O bomb, we can't take anymore."  ;)

Seriously, at least he'll get to spend Thanksgiving with his friends and family before going. Again, stay safe.

Here's my advice to Ogami, it may be heavy and cumbersome but leave the insert in your body armor, it will keep you alive.

Mark: I don't find your advice heavy or cumbersome at all...and I don't think Ogami will, either.  :D   ;)

Here's a link to a page that talks about what to send soldiers.

It makes the point that generic lists should not be used, e.g., some soldiers can use prepaid calling cards, but some cannot.  Bottom line: we need to find out directly from Ogami what he'll need.  (And maybe he won't know til he gets there.)

^hehe, true.

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Ogami}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Because he IS one-of-us (as scary as that sounds...'one-of-us' )

I admire and respect that he is doing what is right by him, following what he believes is right - you can't ask much more than that, but I will anyway: Stay safe, or we'll go and get you back ourselves.

Mark: Word in from Ogami...

Quote

I don't know if I'll be putting my actual address on my blog, I've never deployed before.

At the moment, all I have is a date of deployment with "details to come" from my reserve company.

Normally in my company, you get about 6 weeks notice when you volunteer to deploy outside of the company. In this case, someone else cancelled from their deployment and I'm taking their place, so I've got Thanksgiving at home and then I'm outta here.

But then reservists in wartime are used to deploying on a moment's notice, so I guess I can't complain too much about the two-weeks notice. It's a very short time to get my affairs in order, so I'm making do with the time I have. I wasn't even able to give my employer two weeks notice, I'm working through Sunday and that's it.

So my blog is blank for now, but I will be filling in more details once I'm "out there", I hope to take pictures and relate what it's like in one country or another. (Once I'm there I'll see how safe it is to actually say what country it is.)

So no care packages for the time being, I'm still a happy civilian living the good life at home! In the future, we'll see!

I've sent Ogami email asking him to stop by (or reply) with a list of stuff he likes -- what magazines, drink-mixes, DVDs, etc.
