Same warning as usual, if you're under 18 press the back button now.

Time Stamp: 18:28

Five days had passed since the Endless Night Clan had been almost entirely wiped out by the Vampire Hunter as they sought to rescue three of their own. These five days were spent mostly with the injured recovering from their injuries and resting. Most had healed except for Reece's fractured wrist and the deep slashes to Jo's arm. The nightly patrols around the city and countryside still went on amongst those of the team uninjured enough to do so but for the moment it seemed quiet. Unusually so. The only disturbance mentioned was that the odd wild animal was found slaughtered and ripped apart here and there in the forests but that was put down to predators by the City Guard. Other than that life continued as normal.

Joanna walked down the street from the Old Fox Inn back towards her home. Today was the first day since being rescued from the Nightwalker Vampires that Delpyne and Jair had declared her fit enough to leave the basement where she'd spent the last five days recovering. Her arm was still in a sling and she wore high-collared shirts to disguise the healing fang marks on her neck but she felt much better today. At least physically. Even though she was much better Jair had told her that she wouldn't be working at the Inn for at least another few days yet. With the exception of the horse given to Vincent the others taken from the vampires had been given to the Lhasa family as conitnued repayment for their services in supporting the Vampire Hunters. In her good hand Jo carried a bag of food and ingredients and was looking forward to cooking a good meal when she got home.

Reece was currently on an errand in another city for the Duke delivering papers since his wrist was still wrapped and healing. He was just sitting down to dinner at a local inn wondering how his friends back in Delmi were doing. Hopefully he'd return before too long.

* * * * *

Tialyn's shoulder scratches were healing but itchy. She spread some more salve on them to further the healing and stretched her arm in and out a few times. It seemed to be healing up alright. Going to the kitchen to stoke up the fire in the hearth and to start a meal, Tialyn looked out the window and sighed. Such pretty countryside that held such awful secrets...the supernatural.

Sephira was pretty much healed from her time in the caverns, since she only had to recoup her blood loss and she wore a scarf around her neck to cover the healing fang marks-only hoping they wouldn't scar too badly-she'd been putting a healing salve on them, which she'd also distributed to the other injured, which should minimize any scarring.

She hurried up the street-she was checking on some children she'd been treating for cuts and abrasions when they'd been playing where they ought not to have been playing-but, kids will be kids. She knocked on the door and walked in. "Hello, Mara." She said. "How are the little ones?"

"They're fine-running around like nothing ever happened." The other woman answered. "They've been warned what will happen if they ever do that again!"

I certainly hope so-they were lucky to escape with such minor injuries." Sephira said. "I'll see you later then, I'm going home."

Mara watched the Elviri woman as she left, thinking she seemed different somehow, but couldn't put her finger on it-so she shrugged and went about getting her family together for dinner.

Sephira went home and took off her scarf. She put some more salve on the bite marks and then put the scarf back on-even she didn't want to look at them, and rarely did. When she was through, she washed her hands, and then dished out a bowl of soup she'd had simmering all day and sat down to eat with a crusty piece of bread that someone had given her a loaf of in repayment for her services, and began eating.

Vincent stood at the pasture where he'd been keeping the red horse that he'd taken home with him. He'd had to keep him separate from Diablo because the two would probably fight and injure each other-both being stallions, and he didn't want to castrate either of them-so he simply pastured them separately. Normally, he liked black horses, but the red one's spirit and personality caught his attention, and he knew that it would take an equally strong personality to handle the big animal-his spirit wouldn't be tamed, but he could be reasoned with, and that's what he and Vincent had been working on. The horse ran up to him and snuffled at him, and Vincent smiled and patted his neck. He had been thankful that the horse hadn't given him any trouble on the ride into town, when he'd had Joanna in the saddle with him, and he attributed that to the near-dark, and the horse's inability to see clearly-he'd been trusting Vincent to guide him then.

He thought back over the last five days-he hadn't needed to do much of anything except feed when he got home-he knew the others suffered much more than he did-except perhaps Kat and Breanna-and that was one of the few times he'd been thankful to be what he was.

He looked back towards the house when he heard a giggle, and smiled when he saw Sara and Tommy walking and holding hands. Ever since he'd told them what they were expecting, the two had been inseparable, and that suited Vincent just fine-as long as his people were happy, he was happy.

Kat waited until the last of the hunting party had left the estate then returned home.....she pushed open the door and smiled at Tialyn

"There's nothing better than coming home to a warm house and a friendly face"

She placed a hessian sack on the table
....I bought home some freshly caught fish, I'll cook tonight if you wish..."

"Hi, Kat," Tialyn smiled. Then she grinned at the mention of fish. "Fresh fish, excellent! You didn't leave fang marks in them this time, did you?" she teased.

The Elviri pulled her white hair back and tied it with a strip of leather. "You cook the fish, and I'll get the potatoes and vegetables ready," she offered back.

It was hard to separate their normal lives from what they did in the dark of night, but it was always a joy to just have time to relax.

"Hi Vincent!" Alesha said, running up to him as he stroked the big red horse. The startled horse snorted and backed up, and she looked apologetic. "Sorry." She said.

"It's okay Alesha, just don't run up on him anymore-he could accidentally hurt you." Vincent said. "What did you want?" He reached up to stroke the horse's nose when he came close again.

"I wanted to go to town when you made your deliveries." Alesha said. "Sara wants to go ahead and order some maternity dresses from the seamstress before she needs them."

"Yes, she was going to ride with Tommy." Vincent said. "And you need something?"

"I thought I'd get a new dress too." She said. "Since Sara will already be there."

"Killing two birds with one stone?" Vincent asked, winking.

"Something like that." She said.

"Just as long as you're careful." Vincent said, looking serious. "There still aren't many people in town who know what I am."

"Don't worry, I won't say anything." She said. "I know not many people believe in vampires or other supernatural creatures."

Then feel free to order as many dresses or clothes as you like." Vincent said, smiling.

"Thanks." She said, kissing his cheek. She ran back to the house to get ready for dinner-which was being put on the table.

Vincent smiled and turned back around to the red horse. "So, what do you say-feel like making deliveries tomorrow?" He asked the horse-who tossed his head up and down. "Well, then, what are we going to name you?"

Jo arrived at her house and checked it over but it was untouched as day she left it, and the psionic wards were still in place. So she went into the kitchen and lit the stove then began preparing the meat and vegetables for cooking. It was awkward doing it one-handed but it was better than laying about the Inn like an invalid. Plus it would stop her disturbing Breanna when she woke up in the middle of the night screaming in a cold sweat. She grimaced at the memories and continued with her cooking.

Tialyn shook her head and laughed as she added the other food to a steel pot of water that had been heating up for awhile and was now beginning to boil.

"Hey, Kat? What do you think about those wild animals that have been found slaughtered and ripped apart in the forests? Before he left Reece said the City Guard are saying its just predators...but he said they were savagely torn up, like those Nightwalkers were saw on the way from the caves. You haven't seen anything, well, strange out on the Duke's estate, have you? And you are being watchful when you change, right?"

Tialyn sat down in a wooden chair with a thick cushion and drew her feet up under her. Talk of the Nightwalkers of five days ago still sent a chill down her spine. They'd all been lucky to get out alive...especially Jo.

The evening progressed, Jo finished cooking and eating her meal then settled down to read a book as she was already getting tired. She hated being injured especially when she tired so easily recently. She also wished she could banish the nightmares and memories too. About an hour or so after the sun had set entirely and the people of Delmi sought their beds Jo went upstairs and changed into her nightgown. She looked briefly out of the window over at the city before crawling into bed and stretching out to await sleep.

Sephira lay down on her pallet after washing herself off and putting on a plain cotton gown. She hoped she wouldn't have a nightmare again-the sight of those fangs coming at her had disturbed her more than she would ever admit to anyone-even herself sometimes, and she would sometimes still see them coming after her to feed on her, and she would wake screaming and in a cold sweat. She was just glad she lived alone, and there was no one to hear her. She lay down and closed her eyes, hoping she could sleep all night.

Vincent had gone back inside after everyone finished eating and they spent some time sitting around and talking about what they would do now that they were a little more well-known in Delmi. They at least wouldn't be looked at as strangely when they did go to town, but they all agreed that they still preferred staying at the farm. Vincent sat and listened to all of them, and he agreed that it was better to at least be known, and accepted, than to be rejected, although he was still reticent about getting too familiar with anyone. The fact that he would still outlive most anyone he came across always kept him from getting too close to anyone-except those that were around him now-and it hurt like hell anytime he lost one.

Later, when they all begin to leave for bed, he smiled as he watched Sara and Tommy leave. The other two children-belonging to two other couples, would have a new playmate in a few months. When he was alone again, he went outside and back over to the red horse. He trotted over and poked Vincent with his muzzle as Vincent reached out to pat him. He really did need a name, but Vincent couldn't, for the life of him, find an appropriate one.

With the threat to his place pretty much gone, he decided to go into town and patrol around there for awhile before he turned in, since he really wasn't tired yet. He climbed onto the horse's bare back and rode him towards town, where he started out by climbing onto a roof-leaving the horse to graze or rest as he liked. He liked the view from the roofs better than down below-he could see better. He noticed some others were patrolling around-probably guards, so he stayed out of their way-he was just making sure all of their team who was still down with injuries were safe. He'd also heard rumors of shredded animals out in the forest, and that bothered him-that had not started up until after they'd found the shredded vampires, and he wondered if there was a connection.

He patrolled around on rooftops for a time, just looking around-something just wasn't right, but he was damned if he could put his finger on it. He sat on a roof near the graveyard and stared out at it for awhile-trying to figure out what was bothering him.

What do you think about those wild animals that have been found slaughtered and ripped apart in the forests?

Kat sat on the floor in front of the fire

"I don't know what to think....there aren't that many large predators in the area...other than me....and if it is a predator why tear its prey up like that? it doesn't make sense. There's been no incidents on the estate, but that could be because the whole area carries my scent, my markings, not many predators are going to challenge a panthress for her hunting territory......I am being more careful when I change as whatever it is, is obviously powerful and strong.....she smiled up at her friend.....hopefully it's just passing through....I think we all deserve a little respite after recent events"

her nostrils flared and her stomach rumbled

"The fish is cooked"

Breanna spent the day doing some chores around the Inn, as she had the last few days. She spent her nights relaxing, usually reading. She enjoyed the occaisonal break from hunting vampires, though she was itching to get back on the streets. Then she remembered the thing that killed all those Nightwalkers, and the reports of animals being slaughtered, and she didn't mind staying inside. However, she'd have to feed tonight. She'd make it quick, and wouldn't go far from the Inn. And she'd be armed, just in case.

Tialyn nodded. "Yes, let's hope whatever it is, isn't here to stay," she agreed.

Then she grinned when Kat announced the fish was done. She dished up the potatoes and vegetables on two  pretty, fired clay dishes and set them on the table. "Bring on the fish, oh great hunter."

Tialyn and Kat ate, talked, laughed, and enjoyed their meal as the sun went down. Then they busied themselves with chores and personal activities until time to go to bed. Finally, Tialyn drew the covers over her and tried to get warm before falling asleep. She wondered what tomorrow would bring and asked the moon goddess Kaneea to bless her with a restful night's sleep, as well as to watch over her and her friends, the Vampire Hunters.

The Shadow was unleashed once more tonight and it prowled the countryside for more things to kill. It had scented the presence of a Lycan here and there plus a Daywalker. But this night within the city it caught the scent of a Nightwalker on the wind in the city. The Shadow stalked with deliberate intend towards the source of the scent.....

Breanna dressed completely in black. As soon as the sun was completely set she'd go out, not wanting to waste any time or wait to long for whatever it was that was lurking to show up.

It was time. She exited through the back door and made her way along the streets. There were more people around than if it was later at night, but she could manage. In her gut she knew that something strange was going to happen soon. "I have a bad feeling about this," she muttered as she walked.

The shadowy form slowed it's pace as it walked down the edge of the street. It lifted its head and caught the scent of it's prey up ahead. Finally it spotted the Nightwalker female dressed all in black ahead. Lightening swift and without warning it attacked, catching Breanna in one massive swipe that sent her crashing into the nearest wall with enough force to crumble it....

Although Breanna knew she couldn't die, she certainly felt like she would. She had no time to react before something crashed into her and sent her into a wall. She could feel the broken bones and busted organs, but she knew they would heal. The pain was intense but she had to focus.

She was practically imbedded in the wall, and had to push herself off. She fell to the ground and stood up shakily. That thing was so strong. She looked up and saw it, and gasped. It was... well, not human. Some kind of demon. She had no chance against it, she'd have to escape. But it seemed to track her down, no doubt it would again. Even if she got away, it would be able to follow her.

The demon didn't speak, merely launched itself at Breanna again with another example of it's supernatural speed. Claws emerged from it's hands and slashed at her. Once, twice across the abdomen and shoulders before it seemed to hesitate for a few seconds. It's head tilted as it paused before making the final kill.....
