Fallout: New York Character Bios
Posted 20 February 2010 - 05:36 PM
Name: Leon-no last name.
Species: Human/Lion hybrid, deliberately genetically altered while still in the womb
Height: 6' 2"
Weight: 300 lbs of solid muscle
Eyes: Golden-yellow with vertical irises
Hair: Tawny-gold like a lion's mane, hanging over his shoulders. His body is also covered in fur much like a lion.
Abilities: He has all the abilities of his lion half-excellent night vision, though he can't see in total darkness. He has superb speed and reflexes, and he has claws for fingernails and fangs for teeth, just like a lion. His sense of smell is excellent as well and he has his human intelligence to control it all. He can fight hand to hand or with knives. His lion-like tail gives him excellent balance while running/jumping/climbing. When he was altered in the womb he was also altered to be more radiation resistant due to the purpose of his creation.
Clothing: He generally wears black leather trousers and nothing else as his fur-covered body doesn't require any extra clothing. The only modification to that is an opening to let his tail out. His claws preclude wearing any type of footwear also as they would just shred them.
Scars/tattoos/other markings: Burn scar around his neck from a shock collar that was used too often on the highest setting-usually covered by his mane and hard to see unless one looked closely, and he doesn't let anyone get that close.
Personality: Very suspicious of humans in general and very unlikely to trust them unless they prove themselves.
Known family: A fully human brother living back where he came from.
Known background: No one really knows the lion-man as he lives by himself in an old farmhouse basement that he converted to his lair. Anyone using the farmhouse for shelter for a night usually didn't even realize that he was underneath them and would leave the next day unharmed and none the wiser, but if anyone was to get too nosy and start looking around in the wrong places they would either run into one of his booby traps set for just such a purpose or they would run into him and not live to tell about it. His lair has the original entrance inside the house-carefully hidden in the decayed ruins, plus another tunnel that he spent months digging and shoring up so that he would never be boxed-in should he get caught down there-that entrance is camoflaged to look like part of the wilderness that the farm had gone back to after the war.

Species: Human/Tiger hybrid, deliberately genetically engineered for a specific purpose.
Eyes: Green, vertically slitted
Hair: Very little in the way of hair except for a few golden tufts here and there about her head although her body is covered in fur.
General description: Grianne chooses to wear little in the way of clothing except when it is bitterly cold because of her fur. She usually wears shorts and tank top with a leather harness strapped about her body so she can carry weapons. She is strong and muscular and generally carries a knife and an ancient hand gun that she found during her travels along with a pouch of bullets.
Abilities/Skills: Strong, agile, exceptional night vision, sense of smell, excellent hearing and balance-all the advantages of her tiger side. While Grianne knows basic numeracy and maths she doesn’t know how to read or write, which is no real disadvantage given her history and the world as it is today. She is however quite intelligent and more than capable of learning. She is highly trained in hand to hand combat and with knives and bladed weapons. She has picked up how to use her gun and archery although she has had no formal training in either of the ranged weapons. Again she knows basic survival skills although she has learnt this from hard experience rather than having been taught, along with simple first aid.
Mutations: She has resistance to the background radiation found in all forms of food and water on the surface unless purified, but this is a deliberately introduced genetic trait rather than a mutation caused by long exposure to radiation.
Scars/tattoos/other markings: None.
Personality: Serious, disliking of humans unless they prove themselves, but honourable and sensible.
Known Family: A fully human sister back in the place where she came from.
Known background: Like Leon, Grianne’s background is shrouded in mystery as she doesn’t speak about it. However she displays a lack of general knowledge about the world which suggests that she was raised in one place all her life and has only been travelling for a short period of time. However she is generally mistrustful of others and the more human they appear the less she seems to trust them. She encountered Elena and Tessa only a few days ago while travelling towards Chitina and decided to join them in order to help her learn more about the surface world and hopefully to find territory of her own nearby.
Name: Elena Shepard
Species: Human female, mutant
Height: 5' 3"
Hair: Brown, shoulder length
General description: Average weight for her height, pale skin but subtly strong from a hard and difficult life. She’ll wear whatever clothes she can find or scavenge either from pre-war or more commonly leather hide or cloth clothing. She prefers stout boots and a belt to carry her weapons.
Abilities/Skills: Survival skills, archery, proficient with handheld bladed weapons, basic first aid. She knows some basic hand to hand combat, she can read and knows very basic maths. She is highly intelligent but knows little of history or the old world. She is a competent salvager and mechanic and generally has a knack for putting old parts together and making them work-though not always in the way they had been originally designed.
Mutations: Although she has no outward sign of mutations, Elena possesses the ability of telekinesis and some other mostly latent mental powers that she hasn’t really explored. Like all surface humans she also has some small internal mutations that make her resistant to radiation in all food and water on the surface.
Scars/tattoos/other markings: Some minor scarring on her forearms.
Known family: Husband, Jacob and Jade, daughter in the town of Chitina, about a day and a half’s walk up the Hudson river from the old world city of New York. Parents and brother in a small settlement outside of town.
Known background: Elena was born in a small settlement about three hour’s walk from the town of Chitina. Given the state of the world that she lives in, she grew up in relative safety and comfort. She was raised by her parents Sarah and Gary and has a younger brother named Antione. He was a mechanic and she was a trader. They were careful to teach her how to read and write as well as basic mathematics as had been passed down the family over the generations as well as attending the ‘school’ in the settlement which was little more than teaching the children how to survive and basic combat skills. As she grew older, Elena would often accompany Sarah to Chitina where they would trade with the shopkeepers there for things either the family or the settlement needed. During a visit to Chitina during her early twenties Elena met one of the town’s farmers named Jacob and things progressed in a not uncommon fashion, and two years later they married. She moved to Chitina permanently and set up a small shop where she would repair or build whatever things the residents had salvaged or built while he continued his job working the large fields beyond the town’s immediate outskirts. At the age of twenty six they had a child whom they named Jade.
Everything was going well enough as they were making a life for themselves that was quiet and peaceful except for the odd raider attack or slave grabs from the groups of raiders and slavers that always seemed to plague the land. Everything was going well at least, until midway through her thirty first year when she was captured by slavers while running an errand on the outskirts of Chitina, along with several other humans in the area before the guards that served as the town’s security and a very crude form of law enforcement could step in and stop them. Elena and the other captured residents of Chitina were taken northward over the next few weeks deep into the wilderness. Where they were taking her, Elena never found out but it was a roughly a month before she was able to escape from the slavers and run away. They hunted her for several days after her escape but through a mixture of the survival skills she had been taught as a child and a healthy dose of luck she managed to evade capture. But now she had the problem of trying to make her way back home alone on a long trek through the wilderness facing danger every mile of the way. In addition to that she wasn’t quite sure where Chitina was in relation to her anymore. She knew it was somewhere towards the south. Nevertheless Elena resolved to try to find her way home regardless of the difficulties. She was found first sheltering in an old ruined building by a Mellwret named Tessa who agreed to help guide her back to Chitina. A few days later they encountered a tiger-woman named Grianne who, although suspicious and wary at first, decided that these two humans weren't a threat to her and agreed to travel with them in exchange for general survival lessons and the prospects of making her own territory close to Chitina. Elena hasn't been quite sure what to make of Grianne as it's clear that she isn't simply a human with mutant characteristics, but human mixed in with animal-which is something else altogether than the normal human mutant.

Name: Viconia DeVir
Species: Human with visible and mental mutations
Weight: 100 lbs
Body type: Slender like a dancers
Eyes: Dark Gray
Hair: Platinum blond, almost white, long and slightly wavy
Abilities/Skills: She is a very good hand-to-hand fighter and she carries several knives on her person, which she can also use with deadly precision. She is quick and agile, with very good balance-much like a dancer as she is very lithe and flexible. She knows how to read and write on a basic level as she was taught by her mother. Her mother also taught her to be a healer, and she uses it in her travels in trade for necessities.
Mutations: She lived in an area of NY that had a slightly higher radiation level-near the Indian Point nuclear plant, which caused her skin to take on a gray tone slightly lighter than her eyes. She possesses telepathic abilities that are triggered by touch, as long as the other mind is weaker than hers or if the other person cooperates, and she may possess other abilities as well, she just doesn't know about them yet.
Clothing: She wears a brown leather cape with a hood that she traded for some time back, and brown leather trousers with a black tank top. She wears comfortable leather boots for traveling. She carries her knives hidden in various places that she can get to quickly.
Known family: Her mother and Father-Lucille and Victor-who still live near Indian point and she has no siblings.
Known Background: As stated above, she was born near Indian point, which is now a small settlement fortified with strong walls with about thirty residents. She grew up there and learned a basic reading/writing, as well as how to be a healer. She was also taught how to defend herself, as was everyone, as everyone had to pitch in to defend the settlement from raiders and slavers. When she turned of age old enough, she left the settlement and wandered around NY state, trading her healing knowledge for necessities when she needed them.

(First picture is her physical appearance; second picture is her facial features but with same look as her full body picture. I'm not sure what to do with the thing sticking out of her hair, so we'll just ignore those .)
Race: Mellwret: human with lizard-like characteristics
Marital Status: Single
Wt: Low 130's (her tail is thick and heavy)
Eyes: Brown. She has excellent vision.
Hair: Reddish brown, long and usually worn in a braid, pony tail, or loose.
Complexion: Her skin consists of chameleon-like scales that blend in with her surroundings, so her colors vary; if not trying to hide then she has sort of grayish and gold coloring.
Scars/ Birth Marks/ Tattoos/Mutations: Scales; claws instead of fingernails; webbing and gills on neck (to breathe air and water); long, thick, tapered tail that rests above her rear (can sit like a human). Her teeth are a bit sharper than a “normal” human with slight fangs, has a painful—but not poisonous—venom that can be released if she bites.
Body Build/Other Distinguishing Features: Muscular but slim; strong legs for carrying the weight of her tail which is fairly strong and powerful when she whips it around (she cannot lose her tail and grow it back; however, it would take a massive force to pull or cut it off). She's sturdy and quick on her feet. She uses her body expressively, has a wide range of body language that mostly only her people can understand the subtle nuances. She wears regular clothes as she's basically human.
Abilities/Skills: Finding her way around, she is good with directions and remembers where places are in relation to other places and landmarks; general survival; (others when I think of them!).
Weapons: Her tail (thick and long, can lash out with it); carries a sword she inherited from a family member, as well as knives. Can pick up random objects and find a violent use for them if need be.
Known Skills: Good with melee weapons and hand-to-hand fighting, as well as survival skills. Has become adept at defending herself if there's no other choice; although she prefers talking and reasoning as a first course of action.
Birth Place: Everglades/swamps down in southeast part of the country.
Relatives: Has a large family down south (can be developed later).
Known History: Tessa was born in the swamps/everglades in the southeast. Lived with her family—immediate and extended—and others of their kind in their water and tree homes just trying to survive and stay alive in this war/radiation-ravaged world. Her people struggled to stay out of the clutches of slavers and those who tried to kill them for being “different”; although, there were others who accepted the Mellwrets. Her people were the same as others—some more educated than other, some good and some bad in nature, and whole communities developed in and around the swamps.
She's educated enough to do basic reading and is common-sense smart to figure out things that will help her survive.
She has a somewhat more adventurous nature than normal and explored more of the “world” around her than others; but when her father and brother were kidnapped by slavers, she set out to search for and find them. She's had leads but has not yet found them, although she's traveled very far north in the past six months. Now she's gotten another lead and needs to travel back down to the town of Chitina.
Just recently Tessa was seeking shelter in a ruined building and found a lone human, Elena, without supplies or travel equipment and marked with bruises and injuries. Tessa felt Elena was of no danger to her and ended up befriending, then traveling with Elena to reach Chitina.
She also met Grianne shortly after that.

Name: Jacob Shepard
Weight: 190, muscular from heavy farm work.
Scars/markings/mutations: No scars or markings or visible mutations, however, he is very sensitive to weather changes.
Personality: Patient, logical, has an inner strength and is very stubborn.
Clothing: Generally sturdy work-type clothes suitable for farming with heavy work boots.
Abilities: With his sensitivity to weather changes, he is essentially a human barometer and can predict with a high degree of accuracy what the weather will be like or if a storm is coming. Like all residents of Chitina, he is skilled in hand to hand combat and fights very well with knives or whatever else he can get his hands on if he has to. He is also somewhat of a bug expert, which is useful in his occupation as a farmer and he knows all about the giant mutated bugs of the NY area. He was also taught to read and write by his parents, but he knows nothing of the hisory of the world he lives in. He is a very intelligent and observant person and oftentimes notices things that other people miss.
Known history: He was born and raised in Chitina, an only child, and his parents-Grace and Thomas-ran the farm outside Chitina-growing vegetables and tending the animals for the entire community. The farm is very heavily walled and fortified, with guards guarding it from raiders who would steal the food growing there. When he was old enough he started tending the farm with them and still does to this day, although he does most of the really heavy work, along with hired hands, leaving his mother and father with the easier work as they continue to advance in age.
One day, when he was in his late twenties, he met Elena on one of her visits with her mother to trade in Chitina. Things progressed naturally to marriage two years later, and when he was thirty, she gave birth to their daughter-Jade.
A couple of months ago, when she was running an errand, she and some of the others outside with her, were captured by slavers and he has no idea where she is now. He now continues to tend the farm and raise their five year old daughter alone, hoping against hope that his Elena will someday find her way home.

'Dual Brain/Enhanced nervous system' A mutation of the spinal cord where the nerves are also constructed out of brain tissue enabling the mutant extra memory capabilities and faster mental processing. The result is a smarter than average human. Drawbacks is that it requires a lot of energy to use so she will tend to eat large meals for her size and sleep for a bit longer than normal. Physically because of the extra brain cells extending into it, her spine is a little wider than a normal human's.

Species: Mutated human (deathclaw)
Weight: 227 lbs
Eyes: Yellow. (glows when exposed to radiation)
Hair: None (bald)
Abilities: Due to his mutations, Anterion's legs are much larger then they normally were. The muscle mass looks odd compared to his upper torso. He can sprint at impressive speeds for short bursts. With a running start, he can leap up to 15 feet high, or 30 feet across. His hands are clawed much like those of a death claw. They are great for rending flesh, not so great for finessed manipulation. He also seems to be unharmed by radiation, but hasn't tested large doses.
Clothing: Anterion wears a heavy grey lab coat. It is comprised of two oeversized lab coats hastily stitched over eachother. It trails behind him slightly unless he pulls it close to him and fastens it like a robe. Underneath he wears an old-era metla bnad t-shirt and frayed blue jeans. Steel toed sneakers (you take what you can get) cover his feet.
Scars/tattoos/other markings: Other then his legs/clawed hands, he has a blotchy scar over his right eye that measures one inch in diameter.
Personality: Initially withheld, but once he gets to know a person (usually by fighting alongside them (deathclaw reflex)) he is rather friendly. He is quick to anger when his family is threatened.
Known family: Through research Anterion determined that he might have an uncle who lives in a vault. He does not know which vault or his uncle's first name. Prewar, his great great great great grandfather was a noted scientist.
Known Background: Anterion is a scientist (As for how he came to be a scientist, it was a mix of finding an old-world history book (wherein he found a picture of someone that looked much like him (great great ect. grandfather) and scouring the known locations his family had lived pre-war to find books.) that was in the wrong place at the wrong time. While studying a wounded deathclaw, a few members of his pack raided the building in which Anterion had set up shop. Noticing that he was trying to ease the pain of the deathclaw, the others hesitated on killing Anterion. While circling him, one of the containers of Irradiated plasma was knocked over, causing massive radiation poisoning to start to kill off Anterion.
The wounded deathclaw leapt upon Anterion (who was fairly certain that death was imminent) and bit into his neck. Instead of death taking over him, Anterion's body started to burn. Losing consciousness, Anterion saw flashes of brutal imagery and familial bonds. Anterion awoke in a place he did know. Over time he found that his body had mutated. His legs became larger and stronger, and his hands had become clawed. The deathclaws had made him a member of the pack.
Sometime later a group of men came into the camp and slaughtered the members of the pack that were there. When Anterion returned to the camp from some hunting training, he found his new family's remains and a patch of cloth from a severed human arm. The patch said: Slaver 132. He is now seeking revenge.

For those of you that don't know what a "Deathclaw" is, I suggest going to google, selecting images, then typing in "Fallout 3 deathclaw" and see what images you get if you want to know what one loos like. While the game is definately not the Fallout series universe I am nevertheless borrowing heavily from it.
Anyway, feel free to start posting your character going about his normal business and hopefully he can meet the others when the time is right. I'm sure I can play along and do something to keep your character entertained meanwhile.

Name: Samantha Clement
Species: Human, female.
General description: Natural blond hair, pale skin, greenish eyes, fairly short and average weight. Wears the typical Vault 18 jumpsuit until she leaves the Vault, then she wears rough leather or cloth clothing like everyone else.
Abilities/skills: She serves as one of Vault 18’s mechanics and computer technicians as a dual job. She is highly intelligent and she has a strong will. She knows first aid and robotics. She is highly literate and numerate with a solid base understanding of the sciences. She also knows the true history of the old world’s rise and decline although knows little about the world after the war due to her family’s isolation in a Vault. She has no combat training to speak of.
Scars/tattoos/other markings: None
Mutations: None, not even a resistance to radiation that every surface human has. By the time she leaves the Vault she will have undergone a purposeful mutation for radiation resistance via gene therapy but it will take months to kick in. Until then, life will be hard for her on the surface.
Known family: She has no surviving members of her family.
Known Background: Samantha is an only child and her parents were both killed when she was very young. They were part of the engineering team tasked with maintaining the Vault’s computer systems and machines so that they would never fail. They were killed during an accident with the power distribution grid a few years after the power couplings to the Vault’s fusion generator had exploded. Since then Samantha has been raised communally in the childcare centre of the Vault by the professional child minders that normally mind all the Vault children while the parents are working or those few whose parents don’t want to raise them or have died. She was given the best education available, like all Vault children and was discovered to be highly intelligent. So when school was finished when she was sixteen she was assigned as an engineering apprentice-following in her parents footsteps, so to speak. At eighteen years old she was considered a full adult in the Vault community and given her own set of quarters where she has lived since then. At twenty one she became a fully trained mechanic and at twenty four she qualified as a computer technician. Since then she has worked was an engineer and mechanic for the Vault. She gets on well with her co-workers and the Overseer has no qualms with her. She has had boyfriends occasionally but has never has a relationship lasting more than a few months. She has spent her life in peace and safety without fear or stress. Her parent died when she was so young she doesn’t remember anything. Samantha is happy with her life in the Vault and had no desire to see it change in any way...

Here's another new character you've undoubtably already met in the RP if you've been reading it:
Name: Lilly Malone
Species: Human, female
Weight: Around 110 pounds
Hair: Long and blond
Other information: She's a Vault human, so no special abilities or mutations. She's a nurse practioner who usually tends the hybrids when they need medical attention. She is sympathetic to their plight but is helpless to do much more than try to make them as comfortable as possible when she tends them-including slipping them pain meds or antibiotics and fudging the records to hide it. She never felt guilty for stealing the medicine because she hated the way the pampered Vault dwellers practically ignored the hybrids, believing them to be well-cared for because that was what they were led to believe. She knew better since she tends them, but she also knows that if she tries to say anything different that her life would be made very difficult, up to and including, being unable to care for them. So she keeps quiet and does what she can. She still has family living at the Vault-parents and a brother, Jonah. They're pretty much as uninterested in the hybrids as everyone else and wouldn't listen to her even if she were so inclined to enlighten them. Her mother also works as a nurse and doesn't understand why she volunteers to treat them, as she wouldn't go near them for any amount of money or privileges. She learned all about Earth's history before the nuclear war as she has a Vault education, but she knows nothing of what happened after the Vault was sealed, so she doesn't know anything about the world outside the Vault except that it is still irradiated and dangerous.
History: She became a nurse to follow in her mother's footsteps after graduating close to the top of her class and found to be very intelligent and medically inclined. After she volunteered to care for the hybrids several years ago she started taking medical classes to be able to care for them better, though she explained that she was interested in studying further than her nurses training if she was asked.
