Timejump: Three weeks later.
Three weeks had passed since the day Tashu had arrived at Grianne and Leon's farm, and Viconia and Jez had gotten together. Each of the group that had travelled to Chitina with Elena had spent the last three weeks doing their own activities ranging from settling in to helping relocate an entire settlement, but they maintained regular contact and their friendships made during the journey. Aside from recieving an influx of refugees Chitina had been quiet and hadn't had any more raider or slaver attacks. Viconia and Jez's new clinic continued to do well as every sick or injured person in the city now sought them out for medical treatment including the Hampton refugees. They were kept busy but not overstressed. The 'fake healer' Schero's clinic had been standing empty for almost three weeks now. Elena continued her work in helping maintain the generators around Chitina and running her shop. Jacob continued working the fields around town. Jade continued going to school.
Meanwhile Grianne, Leon and Tashu prospered too. With the spare seedlings, saplings and some of the animals from Chitina's farms kindly donated by Jacob along with the rest of the plants and animals traded in for hides and meat they brought down in the hunt, the three hybrids had the beginnings of a self-sufficient farm that would feed the three of them if they occasionally supplemented their diet with a once-weekly or two-weekly hunt. And they had settled in to a comfortable routine that all three were happy with. On two seperate occasions Raiders attacked the farm but a mixture of booby traps, a reinforced gate, rocks tossed on them from the top of the razor-wired wall and three ferocious hybrids had finally taught the survivors that the farm was not a place to be raided. Especially when the hybrids had strung up the skeletons of the dead raiders in the trees next to the gate as a warning for any others who might try. Since the last attack just over a week ago things had been quiet for them too.

Following her conversation with RJD-1 three weeks ago Elena had spoken to Grianne and Leon and asked them to visit her so they could provide the robot with information. They would visit for lunch tomorrow and she had been careful to buy food suitable for her two guests. Meanwhile RJD-1 had continued to stay with them in hopes that his circuitry would continue to self-repair and he might remember more about his mission. So far, that hadn't worked out so well. Nevertheless Elena was hoping that her theory was right and they were from Vault 18 and could provide useful information. Elena leaned comfortably against Jacob and rested her book in her lap as she continued to watch the storm.

Tashu was in her room in the basement, stretched out across her bed where she was just waking up from an afternoon nap. She'd noticed that she tended to prefer to nap somewhat more than she did a few years ago, especially now that she wasn't sheltering in some random ruin or perched up a tree, but instead in her own room in total safety. She was glad that she'd met up with Grianne and Leon. She was still strong and vigourous enough to hunt although it took more out of her than she liked. In comparison spending part of her day doing farm work was easy and much more suited to her now that she'd slowed down a bit. Tashu yawned and sat up. She was feeling a bit peckish and thought about going into the kitchen to get a small snack.

Leon walked into the kitchen where Grianne was washing off some fruits and vegetables that she had foraged before the storm hit. If the fruit was ripe enough perhaps they could plant the seeds in pots and see if they could get them to sprout. He smiled as he leaned against the doorway and watched her, the last month that they'd been together had been the happiest month that he'd ever spent in his entire life, even if most of it had been spent working to get this place livable and keeping it protected. Although since the last raider attack a week ago, things had been quiet and he was content and happy with that. It was certainly better than walking around on a long chain protecting people that he would rather maul to death as look at. At least this was a place he could call his own with a mate who looked and sounded quite content, if the sound of her purr was anything to go by. He smiled, then frowned slightly in confusion when he caught her scent, it was her scent still, but....different. He sniffed again to be sure, and sure enough, her scent had changed.

"This must remind you a bit of your depot I guess." Grinned Nolan.
Krugen looked around briefly.
"The depot was about 1000 times the size of this bunker but if you use humanoid sentimental parameters then you are right." Answered Krugen.
The robot indeed seemed to be "feeling" quite happy.
Nolan and Krugen heard the heavy metal door open and an old friend walked in.
"Door is heavy, I'm not 20 anymore." Laughed a voice.
A small man walked in, he was about 5 ft 3 and very skinny, also he seemed to be quite old.
Djo had been a good friend of Nolans father, he had always lived in Hampton, the people there never had known a time that Djo hadn't been there.
Djo came from a part of the world which in the past had been called China, how he had ended up in Hampton back then was unknown.
After Hampton had been burned down the people had slowly made it to Chitina, Djo had been one of them and since Nolan and Krugen had been looking for a shop keeper they had offered Djo a place to stay and a job.
Djo would take care of business, although he wasn't a blacksmith or weaponsmith he was good at accounting and could sell parts and items that already had been made and if needed he would take care of Dragger.
The mule had his own big barn and place to walk around so he was happy, it was raining outside and Dragger hated rain.
Despite the rain Nolan decided to take a walk, he was out of coffee and he suspected that Elena might grow the coffee plant, if not then he had the seeds needed to grow quite a batch which he would ask Elena to do since Nolan didn't have the time.
Krugen also prepared to walk, he wanted to test a few modifications he made to one of his test legs so he put on the robe and walked along with Nolan for a while.
Djo stayed inside the old bunker, he sat in an old comfortable chair and had his beloved tea so he made himself comfortable.

Viconia turned from her musings when she heard the front door to the clinic open and hurried over when she saw who had braved the awful weather to come here. "Ms. Willows, let me help you." She said, getting an arm under her and helping her to an examination table. "What brings you here on such a horrible day?" She had been treating the woman's broken leg ever since she had come in, she'd had to reset the bone and had been using her abilities to try to accelerate the healing of the infection that had developed, as well as give her some of the precious few antibiotics she had in store there, and the woman had been showing slow but steady improvement ever since she had come in.

He walked into the clinic with a tray and smiled when he recognised Sophie.
"I hope that your leg is not any worse," he said. Jez had been furious at the so called treatment that Schero had given the woman. He doubted that the so called healer even bothered to wash his hands. Jez hadn't told Viconia but he had gone looking for the man to speak to him about his treatments. Fortunately for Schero he hadn't been able to find him.
"I've brought some hot herbal tea," he said. "You must stay here Ms Willows until the storm dies down."

Grianne nodded and smiled, her roots and vegetables totally forgotten as her mind absorbed the news that she was with cub. She agreed with Leon, it made her feel good that her cub would be born free and safe as could be in the post apocalyptic world they now lived in. "Yes." She said out loud. "One of the handful of hybrids that must have been born free by now." She said.

Viconia smiled when Jez brought the tea and nodded in agreement with him. "You can stay until this awful weather passes." She said, running her hand along the woman's leg to see what was wrong. "You appear to have bruised it a bit." She said. "I'll get you something to ease the pain." She walked over to where they kept their herbs and remedies and mixed up some of the pain powder and brought it back. She had already started the bruising to healing and the powder would alleviate the pain. "Take this." She said. "It doesn't taste very good but it will help alleviate the pain." She then picked up her own tea and sipped, smiling. It was a soothing blend she favored.

"You look like a ghost monk." Laughed Nolan.
"This camouflage will make it so that humans cannot instantly see that I am a robot which might prevent hassle." Answered Krugen.
"True, but there are more robots around here, although I have to admit that you're kind of sinister looking." He said
"I look sinister?" Asked Krugen.
"Well yes, kind of, its obvious that you're heavily reinforced and armoured and you don't have something that looks like a face that people can relate to." Elaborated Nolan.
"Thats interesting and explains a lot about the encounters with humans I've come in contact with over the decades." Krugen said.
The two friends walked on and talked about the appalling weather, Djo appearing, the shop and several others things before going seperate ways.
"What are you up to?" Asked Nolan.
"I am going to ask for some very pure alcohol to clean my fuel cells, it will make them work more efficient, I assume Viconia and Jez will have a suply of it." Answered Krugen.
"Ah, good idea, I am going to visit Elena and Jacob to see if they have some coffee I can buy, I'm nearly out."
"Thats a good idea, you seem to run more efficient after drinking coffee." Concluded Krugen.
Nolan grinned and walked on while Krugen made a right turn.
"See you soon again." Said Nolan and walked on.
Krugen nodded and walked into town, he had mapped every street and alley of Chitina before on his test runs and so he had had no troubles finding the way to the clinic.

"You will leave now," he said. It wasn't a suggestion and the tone of Jez's voice left no doubt that Schero was not welcome.
"You are only interested in how much money you can make out of healing, there is no room for a healer like you in Chitina."
Posted 10 April 2010 - 05:13 PM
"Actually." Schero said, apparently unaffected by Jez's tone of voice although his eyes watched his every move with a wary readiness. "You are the ones that should leave Chitina." He told them coldly. "Accidents have a way of happening and I'm sure you'd hate to be the ones needed healing-or a grave." He gave them an oily smirk as he headed towards the door although he was still keeping an eye on Jez. "Never know what might happen." And with that he kicked the door open and strode back outside onto the rainy street.

Leon smiled. "Theo and Lyann were on duty when my patience snapped that night." He said. "And they wanted to leave as well. Rafe decided to stay and I wasn't inclined to argue with him. I only wish there was something we could do to help the ones who still want to leave and can't." He tightened his arms around Grianne and held her while the storm still raged outside. Maybe the intervening year between when he left and now had changed Rafe's mind, but he still didn't know how he could help the others escape, it would be suicide for him to try it alone or even with Grianne helping, the humans would not let their protection go so easily.

"I'm suprised that he threatened us in front of a witness," Jez said. "Ms Willow I don't want to frighten you but I think you should be careful too."
