As the president said, the man was a mass murderer of Muslims, so I don't know if most Muslims would take offense.

Good point.

MSNBC just showed video of a crowd celebrating the news, outside of the White House. Loved seeing that, although I'm sure that Al Quada will try and use that video as recruitment, claiming the US is against Islam. Still, the American people deserve to celebrate...

Missed the speech.

I wonder how the families of every American who has died in the "war on terror" waged following 9-11 feel about this?  Does it make them feel better?  Does it change their loss?  Will it bring back a single person who died on that fatal day?  And isn't the monster now a martyr?

I dunno.  I'm glad that it happened on Obama's watch because it may help keep the right out of the white house but inside me?  It's just not causing me to go WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO and start waving around a flag.

Ya know what my reaction is?

A big, fat MEH.

Bin Laden is just one man. The IDEOLOGY that fueled him is alive and well.

I'll feel A LOT better once THAT is dealt with. In other words-I have a MUCH better chance winning the Powerball Lottery and becoming a multi-millionare.

It's not news to me, to be honest. Moving on...

President Obama gave a very good speech, free of politics, just facts and gave credit to the military and intelligence. If the election was held this Novemeber his chances would be much greater, but we all know how short American's memories are so by the election...who knows.

Thumbs up to our military!

And may the victims of September 11 rest more easily as well as their families.

YES. It's not going to make the War Without End miraculously stop, but it does make me feel like I'm letting out a big sigh of relief after 9.5 years. On the other hand, it makes him a martyr, and that's never safe. Still, I can't say I regret him being taken out.

Some might. Some might not. Until that ideology is dealt with, an attack like this could happen again-and to think it couldn't is DANGEROUSLY naive. I wrote a story about such ideologies-In The Name Of The One. And sadly, it still has relevance. I f'n wish it DIDN'T. :(

MSNBC is describing where this went down. It was a huge secure compound, in an "affluent suburb" 35 miles north of Islamabad. From the way they are describing it, it sounds like some kind of fortress.

Yep, I do.  This was started by Bush and our intelligence and boots on the ground did the rest.  All Obama did was underfund.  But anyway, the good news is Mr. Osama is dead as a door nail.  That's all that counts for me, really.

I couldn't help but think, especially with the Trump dropping the F bomb thread...

this is one time I would've love to see the President of the USA stand at the podium and say, "My fellow Americans, we killed the m*ther F*cker! The son of a b*tch is dead!."

here are some reported facts, leadup to the insertion team, from the
Philly Inquirer,

'Obama:  "In Abbottabad, Pakistan... a small team of Americans... after a firefight they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body... Our counterterrorism cooperation with Pakistan helped lead us to bin Laden."
The CIA tracked bin Laden to a five-year-old palace compound custom-built for bin Laden and protected by 12- to 18-foot walls topped by barbed wire, owned by two brothers in a rich suburb of Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, last September, a senior Obama official told a group of us reporters.
The suburb, Abbottabad, is home to retired Pakistani military officers, he said, adding the mansion where bin Laden stayed was by far the biggest house in a neighborhood of comfortable homes.
Another official said suspected al Qaeda supporters detained by the US had told US authorities a courier they were tracking was working with bin Laden, but al Qaeda security made it tough to learn more until last summer when US officials figured the extraordinary security at the compound made it likely bin Laden was there.

By February the CIA and other agencies felt they had enough information to plan an attack. Starting in March, the agencies began planning an attack, and the attack was authorized April 29.
A third official defended the attack, calling Obama a key figure in targeting the US as a target by supporters of his al Qaeda movement ten years after the 9/11 attacks even though he doesn't appear to have direct control over today's Islamist terrorists.
Three other men were killed in a 40-minute raid, including two suspected couriers and a son of bin Laden. A woman was killed when she was used by one of bin Laden's companions as a human shield, an official said. One of the raiders' helicopters broke down, but all were able to leave safely '

That is true. But, off the top of my head, the only thing I can see the GOP doing is having their buddies in Big Oil drive the price of gas above the 5 dollar mark, to even have a chance at next year's election.

Lol, yeah, that would have been awesome and funny - but, probably not appropriate for such a serious historic moment, sadly, because he would have been making fun of Trump :)

MSNBC is reporting crowds gathering and celebrating near the ground zero site.

Haven't heard anything about the GOP response to the President's speech, or to the news of Bin Laden's death...

My thoughts on this are mixed. While there's now one less psycho in the world (and how many more will take Osama bin Laden's place?), it doesn't change any of the things he did or any of the things his followers will do. All this will do is generate more senseless hatred and violence. How is that a cause for celebration? We're dealing with a hydra. You cut off a head and two take its place. You cannot fight an ideology by attempting to kill everyone that believes it, especially when said ideology is fueled by a hatred of western violence against the Middle East (among other things).

On the other hand, the guy was a monster and was so far removed from Islam that it's an insult to Muslims everywhere to even call the guy a Muslim. The guy was a mass murderer of anyone who stood against him, Muslims included. Most Muslims won't respond in outrage to his death as he didn't represent them.
"My sexuality's not the most interesting thing about me."
