IC:

Time Stamp: 19:17 Saneshal drift local time.

Catherine Rowe discreetly checked that her forcelance was loose in it's holster and within easy reach as she waited in the hangar where the Ebon Hawk was parked. Saneshal Drift. Usually she gave this particular drift a miss due to it's particularly unsavoury reputation. Of course, most drifts didn't exactly have a good reputation in this sector of space but Saneshal was worse than the rest. But this time was different. One of the 'Hawke's engine parts had worn and almost failed so they'd had to make a premature docking here rather than the Drift she had planned. But since they were here she figured she might as well go out and look for potential employment opportunities whilst they were here and one had come along that seemed worth looking into.

The client was a Nightsider called Vertect who wanted a single package transported to Enkirsa quickly and efficiently. She'd done a background check on him and aside for some shady business dealings on the whole he seemed like a legitimate trader.  So they had met and agreed on a price that while it was worth a bit more money than a normal package that size would be shipped for, it wasn't so much that it made her suspicious what she'd be transporting was illegal. Or so she hoped. So here she was now waiting for Vertect and his men to bring the package into the hangar so she and Meng could load it aboard the 'Hawk. Catherine glanced at Meng thoughtfully as they waited. She'd only hired him as a part of her crew a month ago but already he had proven useful to bring along to unknown or potentially dangerous situations and he hadn't done anything suspicious. Yet. Her eyes flicked back to the door as it opened and Vertect walked in along with two of his henchmen pushing along a sealed pod on an antigrav harness. "Precisely on time." She remarked to the Nightsider as they crossed the hangar.

Daze Libra wandered down the busy market area of Saneshal Drift, keeping his tail tucked close against him so that it wouldn't be accidentally trodden on by any of the mass of aliens from different species walking around the market. While they were at the drift he had been determined to have a little fun and so far the drift hadn't disappointed him. He patted the full pouch of coins tucked under his jacket almost affectionately as he glanced about. Naturally, despite never having been to this particular Drift before he found where he wanted to go without really looking for it at all. Agilely he dodged past a particularly large Nietzschean and seamlessly picked his pocket before walking in to a medical supply outlet. Daze glanced at the clock inside and smiled slightly. By now the Captain would be picking up the pod they had to deliver. All was going well. Then he turned his attention to spending all his hard-earned cash on various medical supplies and equipment.

While Catherine and Meng waited to deal with their new Nightsider "employer", Erica wandered around Saneshal Drift's merchant shops licking the sweet, cold, sticky chocolate ice cream that was dripping from her cone. Not having had ice cream for ages, the twenty-five year old had her eyes closed in ecstasy. She didn't realize that several strands of her long, red hair had come loose from her ponytail and were now coated in ice cream.

"Oh, Drago, she murmured to herself. I wonder if a third one would be too much?

She'd come here in her travels before hiring on with Catherine four years ago, and hadn't gotten into too much trouble...at least not enough that she couldn't still show her face. The authorities, after all, had never even questioned her about the accidental outage of half the drift's power supply, even though she'd been brought in with the rest of the small group. A few tears, an innocent smile, making friends with the male receptionist who wiped her name and face from the records...and Erica was on her way off the drift in no time.

That was six years ago, though...and the outage had been partially her fault really. But it had all been a complete accident.

Now she was here to buy food supplies for the 'Hawk, a sweet little transport ship that she called home. Erica opened her eyes just in time to avoid running over an Amber Than. Her bone blades automatically extended in her surprise as adrenaline shot through her system; but Erica retracted them against her forearms quickly. The Than chirped, clicked, and hissed at her in its native language, but Erica apologized politely. She knew some Than social skills from hanging out with Gentle Rains aboard the ship.

"Ooh, I totally need some of that," Erica mumbled to herself as she passed by a specialty food shop. Her gaze swept the wares in the window and the delicacies on the shelves. Even the unsavory types that frequented this particular drift needed to eat. And Erica wasn't concerned for her safety here. Along with her natural "weapons", the knives in her boots and gauss pistol at her hip were well known to her hands.

Erica pushed through the doors and stood in the middle of the shop, wiping her mouth on her sleeve. Mentally going through the money Cath had given her and the ship's crew needs and wants, Erica got down to business of choosing her supplies. She nodded to the proprietor of the shop, showing that she was a legitimate customer.

Meng waited near the hangar with Catherine, keeping a wary eye out as they waited for the Nightsider to bring the package they were supposed to deliver. His stance implied that he was more than just a bodyguard, but it was one thing about him that he did unconsciously, for he had been born into what was the closest thing to royalty that Nietzscheans had, and that was the middle son of the Alpha of the Caspian pride. However, just over a month ago his older brother had framed him for the murder of their younger brother and if he hadn't had the help of some friends he would have been executed, first they faked his death and then they got him away from the home planet. It was good fortune that at the same time he was looking at the want ads on that drift he'd ended up at that she had been there looking for a weapons officer. She'd put him through a minor test-at least it was minor to him, for he blasted through it in record time. After he passed her little test, he was offered the job and although he knew he was going to have to take orders from the female kludge captain he accepted the job. It was way beneath what he had been used to, but he had to survive long enough to exact revenge and take his rightful place as Alpha. Naturally he'd given her a false last name and told her he was from the Cobra pride to keep her from being able to verify his story, for Cobras generally didn't operate in this section of the galaxy and one would be hard-pressed to find one. As it was, he was looking forward to getting away from all of the inferior species he was being forced to associate with while he hid and plotted. For one thing, he noticed that the captain and first officer both carried force lances and he would love to get his hands on those. He also wondered if she had any other tech like them hidden somewhere. He had a feeling she did and he was going to find out and get his hands on it one day, for it would help him in his quest to avenge his brother's death and knock his other brother off the Alpha throne that he had taken by deceit and murder.

And it was a rag-tag bunch of people he'd chosen to hide with too-a decrepit cargo ship with a female kludge for a captain and a male kludge for a first officer, a Makra on sensors, a Than as a pilot and backup engineer, a tiny little female kludge engineer and he didn't know what to make of the medical officer-it was obviously male, but it was nothing like he'd ever seen. It had purple skin, pointed ears and a long, prehensile, pointed tail. Meng shook his head and sighed inwardly when his thoughts turned to the ship's cook....if it hadn't been for the boneblades sticking out of each of her arms he would have taken her for a slightly eccentric kludge. As it was, she was a flawed Nietzschean with her....how did he put it....bubbly personality and totally un-Nietzschean way of dressing. Not to mention nanos in her hair that changed into different colored stripes with the shake of her head. Her dietary preferences were odd, to say the least too-pie, cake, ice cream....he figured it was a good thing she was Nietzschean or she'd be as big as the Hawk by now, as much of the stuff as she ate sometimes. He didn't think much of the primary pilot either, an Inari, which was just another modified kludge to him.

He'd been hired as weapons officer, but Catherine had also started taking him with her when meeting clients, finding his large, intimidating posture helpful in warding off potentially dangerous liaisons. He didn't really mind those, he enjoyed scaring other people and making them nervous, it meant they might make a mistake. So far there hadn't been any need for him to do anything other than glare and growl menacingly, but one day he knew someone would probably try their luck.

He glanced up when he saw the Nightsider bringing over a large pod. He was intensely curious about what was in it, but it looked sealed tight. He supposed he'd have to wonder about it, unless he could find a way to open it without being noticed, and he would try it, just to see if he could. As they got closer, he glanced about warily, this drift was just too dangerous to let one's guard down for long, if at all.

Kaylee looked about warily as she headed off into the drift to purchase the part she needed to fix the Hawk's engine. Normally she would avoid going out at all, especially on a drift with the reputation this one had, but they needed that part. Ever since she'd escaped from her captivity with Drago-Kazov Nietzscheans and found a job with the Hawk she'd usually stayed aboard unless she really needed something. She much preferred finding a quiet corner to sit in and play her game than to mingle with the crew, though she did hang out with Gentle Rain or Daze a little, usually at meal time. She stayed as far away from their newest hire, Meng, all the time, but she did speak sometimes to Erica since the female Niet was so different from any other Nietzschean she had ever encountered. She wasn't sure what to make of her, but her bubbly personality was something that was hard to ignore sometimes.

It was Gentle Rain who agreed to accompany her on her buying mission today and she was grateful for it. It made her feel safer and she knew she would be able to slip away from any danger unless she was forced to defend herself-which she would do, violently, but she was no trained fighter, she was more of a scrapper who would bite, claw and kick at very sensitive places in order to get away from anyone trying to capture her. She chatted with the Than pilot while they headed for a place that sold spaceship parts, hoping they would have the part she needed and she could then head back to the Hawk and fix the engine while the others made the cargo secure before delivery. She walked in and did her business as quickly as she could, closely inspecting the part before paying for it to make sure she was getting what she was paying for and not something barely able to get them going again. Once she paid for the part, she quickly made her way back to the ship, passing up the Nightsider and his group as they were bringing a pod to the ship and disappeared inside to get started on the repairs, making a large circle around Meng as she did so.

"Of course." Vertect replied to Catherine as they reached the human and the Nietzschean. "This is valuable cargo. It has to be guarded." This made her put her hands on her hips, though she was using the gesture to keep her hand close to her forcelance. "Is it illegal?" She asked bluntly, though there was implication in her tone that this wasn't necessarily a problem. Which it wasn't if she was honest. In this sector of space almost nothing was illegal. "No no, it's perfectly legal." The Nightsider assured her hastily. She tilted her head to one side reflectively. It was in his interest to see that the cargo reached it's destination safely otherwise he'd lose the profit. "Very well then." She agreed, using her free arm to sign the flexi contract after he had. As he was tucking the flexi back into his jacket, Catherine caught the faintest movement out of the corner of her eye at the edge of the hangar and with a trained reflex she grabbed her forcelance just as a shot came from masked attackers. It missed Vertect but took out one of his minions. Instantly Cath ducked, using the pod for cover as more shots came in their direction.

Meng was silently amused at the way that the little engineer kept as much distance from him as she could as she scurried aboard the ship. He had a feeling that she'd once been a slave to one of the other prides, and now walked a wide circle around anything with boneblades-not that it bothered him, she could walk a wide circle around him forever and that would be just fine with him.

Just then, he caught the faint movement of someone scuttling about several seconds before Catherine apparently did and he had his Gauss gun in his hand and had already fired off a shot at the movement, satisfied when he heard a yell of pain and saw the target collapsing. This was just before Catherine pulled her forcelance and ducked behind the pod when someone else shot one of the Nightsider's guards, then more shots rang out all around them. Seemed someone else wanted whatever was in that pod also, he thought to himself as he also dove behind the pod to avoid getting shot himself. When he noticed a pause in the shooting, he raised up and fired several times in the different directions that he had perceived the shots coming from, making their attackers dive behind cover as well and hearing at least one more yell of pain when another of his shots connected. He then ducked again when another round of shots came at them. "Persistent little buggers." He commented almost to himself.

Kaylee had been chatting amiably with Gentle Rain as she walked towards the engine room, both in English and a smattering of Than since it had been teaching her that language in their spare time when the sound of gunfire made her twitch and spin around. Sounded like someone was trying to steal their cargo and she hoped that Catherine and Meng could hold them off-the last thing they needed to do was lose a paying job. She would have gone out to help, but her proficiency with weapons was limited and she figured she would be more useful if she got the ship ready to go as soon as possible, so she scurried the last little bit to the engine room and started working to replace the damaged part with the new one.

Cath remained ducked behind the pod for a few moments, taking note of the way Meng was efficiently taking out opponents. She touched the side of her neck to activate the sub-dermal communications implant she had there-another technology once used by the High Guard. "Josh, we got hostiles out here." She contacted her first officer. "We could use some backup." Once she heard him acknowledge she waited for a pause in the firing then smoothly peered around the edge of a cargo pod and shot one of the attackers. It was hard to tell what species they were although the innacuracy of their shots meant that they weren't nietzschean and they were poorly trained. Probably hired thugs. Catherine waited patiently for her next opportunity to return fire. Obviously someone wanted the contents of the pod. Vertect and his remaining thug had also taken cover-fortunately the pod was just about wide and high enough to shelter all of them. They were attempting to assist in the fight but it was apparent they were only slightly better trained than the attackers.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Josh had been lounging in the rec room when he recieved Catherine's communication via their sub-dermal implants. "All right, we're on our way." He acknowledged, jumping up and hurrying over to the nearest computer console where he spoke over the ship's intercom. "Attention all crewmembers. We have hostiles shooting in the hangar bay, the Captain has requested some assistance." With that done he hurried to the airlock. It was already open so it was just a matter of remaining concealed until the masked attackers exposed themselves whilst not knowing he was there and shot two of them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Gentle Rain heard the gunfire along with Kaylee and ran up to the bridge. It had an idea and was determined to try it out. It acknowledged Cori's presence with a nod of it's head and sat down at one of the bridge stations.

Erica had finished her necessary supply run, had paid the bill and had the now sealed metal crate loaded on a rented anti-grav cart. She was wandering through the crowds, pushing her purchases ahead. Although she smiled happily and seemed to not be paying attention, all her Nietschean senses were automatically on alert. Erica might look young and naive, but she wasn't. Well, she was young, yeah, but not as young as she knew she looked. And she knew...whether the crowd milling around her did or not..that if anyone messed with her, she'd not hesitate to knock them down and run them over. Maybe even twice.

One of the traders who had a booth, not a shop, watched the bright, red haired Nietzschean curiously. Dressed in a bright green tank top over a black t-shirt, leather shorts, and high boots, the girl seemed vaguely familiar. The bouncy way she walked, totally inappropriate for her species, convinced Vala.

"Hey there, baby girl," Vala called out. "We got us some business to finish up."

Erica heard someone talking, it sounded as if it were directed at her. She glanced up, her bright green eyes growing large. Oh crap! It couldn't be, not here! Well, yeah, why not here...this would be the place that Vala would find herself.

Erica studied the older woman for a moment. The human's long, straight, jet black hair was sprinkled more liberally with white now. Her dark blue eyes still sharp and clear, piercing into Erica's very soul. Vala knew things...she always had. Luckily she didn't know everything about Erica...that would have been, well, bad for Erica's health.

"Vala," Erica said, taking a diverting path toward the human woman. "You're here."

"I'm here, baby girl," Vala said, leaning on her table and looking Erica up and down. "It's been, what, four years? You look better than last time."

Erica laughed. "I always look better when I'm not covered in mud," she admitted.

Then Vala grew serious. She narrowed her eyes, noticing Erica grew nervous. "So, our business?"

Erica held up her hand and shook her head. "Really, it's okay. I mean, I thought we settled that...that issue last time," Erica said, glancing around nervously.

Reaching into her pocket, Vala make a tsking noise. "I always pay my debts, baby girl, you know that. Just like I expect others to do the same...otherwise... ." Vala drew a finger across her throat.

Erica sighed. Drago have mercy, the woman was still thinking about the past. Something that should have been laid to rest with their last encounter. She watched as Vala opened her hand, the single, gleaming gem laying in her wrinkled palm.

"I think this is yours," Vala said, holding out her hand.

Erica shook her head. "I gave it to you, Vala...for, well, you know, what you did. Why can't you just let it go and keep it?"

Suddenly, a beeping noise came over a communication device on Vala's belt. She glanced at it, then shook her head. "Damn drift," she complained. "Someone's always causin' trouble somewhere...this time there's some sort of ruckus in the hangar bays."

Erica's eyes widened. Which one, she thought? Not where the 'Hawk was? So she asked. And it was.

"Crap! I gotta go, Vala! That's where my ship is...well, the ship I work on. They might need help!" Erica hissed.

Erica scooted to the gravcart and unlocked it. She began to run, feet pounding and weaving through the busy market place pushing the damn cart. Josh had once told her he'd used one like an old Earth skateboard, but Erica wasn't confident enough to try that at the moment. She'd contact the ship on her external comm once she got clear of the market.

"But what about...?" Vala shouted.

Erica called over her shoulder. "It's yours, I told you that!"

The human woman shook her head, depositing the gem back in her pouch. "Be safe, baby girl," she whispered.

OOC: Posting on behalf of Balth who has.... connectivity issues. ;)

IC:

Cori was relaxing in the cockpit, he'd seen the pretty engineer return with parts and was grabbing a few moments rest before he navigated the slipstream to wherever their next destination was.

He bolted upright when he heard Josh's voice over the intercom and turned the lights up so Gentle Rain could see on the bridge instead of just him. He powered up the bridge restoring all power to sensors, lights and defence mechanisms, the viewscreens flicked online showing 6 hostiles pinning down Captain Rowe, Meng, the Nightstalker trader and his goon behind the pod.

He hit full power on the ship's front lights dazzling the attackers. He grabbed the two gauss pistols strapped under his chair and desk, throwing one to Gentle Rain he yelled, "The bridge is yours." before running down to the Cargo Bay, he took up position behind some supplies, waiting to see if anyone unwelcome tried to board the Ebon Hawk.

Kaylee reached the engine room in record time and vaulted over a handrail to get to the engine. She heard the gunfire as muffled sounds as she half-buried herself in the engine after pulling a headband over her head to keep her wayward curls out of her face. She started working as fast as she could to remove the old part, cursing a blue streak as her wrench slipped and she banged her hand hard on the engine. With her hand throbbing, she grabbed up the wrench and finally managed to loosen the part and take it off. She then fitted the new part and tightened it down, thankful that the wrench didn't slip again with the speed she was working. She then powered up the engines, grateful to hear them fire up as they should. She put the cover back over the compartment and tightened it back down before examining her hand, making a face at the cut on it. She wrapped a clean cloth around it for the moment as she scrambled around and made sure everything else was working properly so they could take off once they got the cargo aboard. She'd go see Daze when things quieted down since the cut didn't look that serious, just ugly.

As Daze finished putting his purchases into his antigrav cart and stepped outside of the medical supplies outlet, he nodded. It was time. The probabilities indicated it would be best if he met up with Erica and arrived in good time to leave quickly. And so he weaved his way agilely out of the marketplace then ran at considerable speed beyond that which a human could, his tail flailing about behind him to help keep his balance. The purple pixie deliberately slowed his pace to one more human however as he turned the corner and 'accidentally' met up with Erica. "You heard about the trouble too?" He asked breathlessly as they skid to a stop just outside the hangar door. It was partially open and he could hear the sounds of gunfire in front of them.

Meng growled in frustration as the untrained thugs were able to keep them pinned down for the most part-mostly due to their well-chosen vantage point which was higher than they were. The appearance of Josh was a welcome sight, but there were still quite a few of their attackers left. But being untrained meant that they were also bad shots and he managed to take out at least one more of them during another lull in their firing. He heard the engines of the ship fire up, so he knew that the little engineer had fixed the engine. Now all they needed was to take care of the remaining thugs. He didn't know what was in the pod that they wanted so badly, but now he was more curious than ever what was in it, what they thought was worth killing and dying for. He intended to find out what it was as soon as possible.

Erica nearly crashed into Daze and his anti-grav cart at the hangar door, where the sounds of gauss gun shots were echoing back and forth.

"You heard about the trouble too?"

"Yeah! A frie...I heard it over a drift scanner," she explained. "Lucky thing you showed up here, too. I didn't have time to contact Josh, Catherine, or anyone else. Is it us for sure?" she asked.

Erica peered in through the partially open door, glancing around. She motioned to Daze to look with her and pointed to the stand-off. Yep, it was their people pinned down alright. There were stacks of crates, ship repair equipment and supplies, and several other large ships docked. She could see several ways to maybe get in undetected. But Daze always seemed good at being stealthy...at least that had been Erica's experience over the last year.

"Okay, how do we get over there without being seen or shot?" she asked. "I'm way too young to die."

Catherine glanced up when she heard the distinct whine of the point defence lasers of the Ebon Hawk activating. Seconds later the lasers activated-weapons designed to shoot down incoming enemy missiles vapourized the attackers. Cautiously she straightened and looked about at the smoking remains before lowering her forcelance. Vertect straightened too and nodded vigourously. "You see, you see. It's very valuable. You must get it to its desination. You signed the contract. Half the credits are yours. Now I must get somewhere safe." She glanced around at the Nightsider in irritation as he and his remaining goon rather quickly retreated out of the hangar. Cath watched him go and shook her head.

"Unfortunately I happen to agree with him in this instance." She remarked sourly. "We need to load the pod, recall Daze and Erica then get out of here before more thugs show up." As she turned to the pod, Josh emerged from hiding with a wry expression to help them push it into the cargo bay. "We need more contracts where people don't shoot at us." He commented. Cath chuckled. "I'll take that into consideration in future." It was then she noticed that the pod, constructed of solid metal was virtually intact despite taking a lot of hits. Barely a few scuff marks and burns marked its's surface. "Look at that." She pointed. "Barely a scratch. Just what is inside this thing?" Cath thought out loud as they pushed it into the Hawk's cargo hold.

Daze shifted his weight, twitching his tail in preparation to do something about the attackers pinning Captain Rowe and some of the others of the crew down when the point defence lasers of the 'Hawk activated and incinerated the attackers. "Well I guess that answers that." He remarked with a smile as he looked up at Erica. Then he skittered across the hangar with his antigrav cart and waved at Catherine, Meng and the others. "Did we upset some bad people again?" Daze asked with an innocent smile as he pushed his antigrav cart up the ramp and into the cargo hold.

"Barely a scratch. Just what is inside this thing?"

Meng watched the purple monkey skitter on by with his supplies, then he heard Catherine make the same comment he'd been thinking. He glanced at her as he replied. "I was wondering the same thing myself. For someone to send a gang of even untrained goons to try to take it means something. Someone went some expense to hire them, though I'd get my money back if I were them." He'd been infinitely grateful that someone had activated the PDLs and vaporized the remaining thugs, it made things take less time. He was less than impressed that the Nightsider wasted no time in skittering away, which was actually typical of any he'd ever run across. "Maybe we should open it once we've gotten somewhere safe." He added. He hadn't missed the way she'd used the subdural implant to call Josh, which meant that he also had one. Knowing they lived hand-to-mouth most of the time, unless they stole them and had someone implant them, maybe they were some more of the tech he suspected she had. One way or another he was going to find out how she acquired such tech to begin with. Until then, he'd suffer taking her orders because it suited his situation.

Kaylee relaxed once she heard the PDLs activate, then go quiet, it meant that whoever had been shooting at them had been dealt with, and she was just finishing up making sure they were ready to fly. She got on the comm and said as much. "We're good to go Captain, whenever you get the cargo loaded." She then made sure that she hadn't left any bolts or fasteners loose in her hurry to get the engine fixed.

Erica would be lying if she'd said she wasn't grateful to see and hear the point defense lasers activate and take out the rest of the attackers. Vaporization was always a good, final sort of way to dispense with people trying to kill them.

The Nietzschean followed behind Daze with her own supplies for the ship. "I guess it does," she agreed.

She looked curiously at the pod as she passed Cath and the others heading toward the cargo hold. She wondered what the hell was in there that would garner an attack in the hangar bay. And did they really want to have it on board? Josh and Cori were nearby, as well.

"I'm back...obviously," she said to Cath. "Sorry we missed the excitement, Captain."

Erica slid past Meng, his bulk taking up more than his share of the room, but not afraid of him. Well, not so long as their new Nietzschean weapons officer minded his own business and didn't try to get into hers. They were of the same species, but entirely different in their outlook on life. Like all of their kind, she was certain he had his secrets...just as Erica had hers.

Still, he wasn't too hard to look at. He must have some good genes in him, and Erica could still appreciate the exceptional physical qualities of the males of her species.

She then turned toward the galley. The sounds of the 'Hawk's engine was a welcome sound. Kaylee must have gotten a replacement for the broken part. Erica had tried to make friends with the other young woman since Kaylee came aboard eleven months ago, but she could tell there were deep scars that prevented her from being comfortable around others. But Erica sensed that Kaylee felt somewhat safe with her, even if she was a Nietzschean.

"We're good to go Captain, whenever you get the cargo loaded."

Erica smiled at Kaylee's comm. Yep, they were ready to fly again. She'd leave the anti-grav cart out on the hangar floor and unpack her supplies once they were back in space.

Meng watched silently as Erica slid past him onto the ship with her supplies. He supposed he could have moved a little, but she was by quickly enough. He hadn't missed the appreciative and slightly curious glance she gave him and he allowed himself to look her up and down a bit as well. For all her strange ways and tastes, she did show some good breeding, However that was still offset by the strangeness and totally un-Nietzschean way she was living. If he were to guess he would guess that was one reason she didn't already have a mate and why she wasn't at home now-personality clashes. He was eternally grateful that she was likely the only one of her kind around, he didn't think he could stand being around two of them. Once she disappeared into the ship he stood by and kept an eye out while Josh and Catherine loaded the strange pod onto the ship, just in case whoever was trying to get their hands on it sent more thugs after it.

Once Kaylee was sure that everything was right about the engines, she wandered out to the cargo bay to see what it was that someone went to so much trouble to try to steal from them. When they brought the pod in, she looked over it quite curiously, wondering what was inside of it. The pod was longer than she was tall and it looked like someone took shelter behind it during the firefight, but the pod itself only suffered some minor scorch marks, which meant the pod itself was quite strong. So, what was inside that was so valuable? She walked around the pod, examining it carefully, very curious by now. She heard Meng mention opening it once they were safe, and while she stayed away from him, for the most part, she agreed with that-they should open it and find out what it was they were carrying. But not here or now, just in case whoever sent those goons sent another batch.
