For those who don't know, hurricane Irene caused severe flooding in many rural areas of the northeast. Much of the devastation affected farmland, destroying crops, carrying away livestock, and destroying barns and feed. These are areas where the local economy is based on agriculture. This sunday, Sep 25, a number of restaurants in NYC will donate a portion of that day's sales to helping farms in upstate NY get back on their feet. So if you are in New York City this weekend, you can help out by eating out!

On September 25, 2011, participating New York City restaurants will give up to 10% of their sales to Just Food and GrowNYC to benefit NY area farmers hard hit by the hurricane. We hope you’ll make reservations, eat and drink heartily, and check back here for updates on new participants and details.
