Earth Exodus Fleet...Introduction

"Oh yes, I love flying JoJo." Shawntee said, grinning. "Kris and I, we love the adrenaline rush and it's just a helluva lot of fun. Actually, I took to the Scorpion pretty easy, but JoJo complains a little, but he's a little stuffy anyway." She looked up at the dome when a bunch of other people did and smiled. "Hyperspace. Wonder where we're going."

He had a lucky coin from Earth, it was usually in his flight suit but he had it in his pocket. Heads for home, tails for rec room. Tails it was. Corven jogged back the way he'd come and headed to the rec room. Sasha, Jake and some of the others were there. "Hey guys," Corven said. "Looks like we're headed somewhere specific."

She looked at the clock on the wall. Still some time left before she and the others were off duty. "Want to grab a soda and have a game with us?" she asked Corven. Then she remembered his wrist. "How're you healing, by the way? You should be back to flying soon, right?"

He helped himself to a soda and walked over to the pool table. "Who's winning?" he asked.
Posted 14 October 2011 - 07:47 PM
"It's not gloating," the tall, dark-haired pilot answered. "It's taking pride in kicking your ass."
Sasha laughed as Alex racked up another set of balls. "You take the first shot, Corven," she said.
The group waited as Corven went to the table.
As Janie passed Sasha she whispered, "You talk to Randy tonight?"
Sasha frowned and shook her head briefly. She didn't want to think about her boyfriend right now. Janie looked at her sympathetically, but Sasha didn't want to talk about it. If she did decide to share, it would more than likely be with Evie. But Janie was just trying to be her friend, too. Sasha caught Jake looking at her, then he glanced away as if embarrassed. That wasn't like Hendrickson, Sasha thought, then pushed all thoughts of all guys out of her mind.

Jerry punched a command into his command chair's left armrest and looked over the roster bofore answering. "Page Green Alpha, Red Beta, Yellow Alpha and Blue Omega for patrol. I want them launched immediately upon exiting hyperspace."
Affirmitive....page sent to all listed pilots.
Jerry sat back and patiently waited.
"This seems like a nice..."Steve was saying before a beep from his comm link on his wrist interupted him. "Excuse me. I hope you have a great evening." He glanced around as several pagers beeped around room. "Looks like a lot of our pilots are here." He moved toward the exit with several other people, most of them headed off to their quarters to get ready while Steve headed to the Alpha Flight deck on top of the Washington DC to prep his squadron's Scorpions. As he walked he tapped his commlink.
"Athena, wake up the other AIs and get the ships ready for patrol."
You got it Boss

Adrian looked up at the dome at the same time as most other people did as the ship jumped to hyperspace. He too wondered where they were going and without thinking about it he said. "I hope it's a new alien planet with lots of new lifeforms to study." Which was true. He enjoyed few things more than a whole planet full of new and alien life so unlike Earth's. He glanced directly at Shawntee when her pager went off. Adrian made the deduction it was probably work related and likely something to do where they were going.

He gave the cast a tap and sighed. "Have fun kiddies," he said. "I might just buy you all a beer when you come off duty."

Darius started a bit when Kristen's beeper went off and he sighed audibly, obviously disappointed that their evening was ended. When she handed him a piece of paper with her contact information on it he took it, then handed her one with his contact information as well. "Call me when you get back." He said, indicating that he definitely wanted to take up where they were leaving off. He whistled for Jonas, who came to him immediately.
Debbie relaxed on her sofa with the three cats surrounding her-the calico, Patches, the black tom, Aladdin and the Siamese, Neko. She always loved snuggling with the three cats and it didn't bother her that she didn't have a man right now. Most usually didn't call her back once they found out she had three cats, and that meant she didn't want them anyway. The cats were part of the bargain, just like children would be and anyone who would ask her to get rid of them would get the boot instead. She yawned and got drowsy with all the rumbling purrs and eventually drifted off to sleep,

Since they were already at the base, the three pilots took their time heading to the changing rooms. Since it wasn't an emergency, they took their flight suits with them to dress. Sasha waved to the guys. "See you out in space," she said with a grin.
A familiar voice came over her comm link as she was slowly changing from her base uniform into her flight suit. "Heya, gorgeous," Sammy said. "I assume you got the page?"
Lieutenant Cooper was too excited to chastise her AI at the moment. Janie grinned as her own AI contacted her, albeit a bit more professionally. "Yes, Sammy, I did...and I assume you were contacted as well."
"Yes Ma'am...sure was," Sammy said in a horrible Earth Texas accent that made Sasha laugh. "The Captain's AI had us all put on alert. We're checking the Scorpions over as per protocol, then we'll fire 'em up for you pilots."
Sasha zipped up her flight suit and began to gather her hair up in a ponytail. More and more of the female pilots were entering the changing area, those that had been on or near the base. There were excited murmurs of voices, wondering what they would find once they exited the Washington and found themselves once more in the blackness of space.

"Download standard patrol information to all ready craft, this is a standard new planet patrol. I want Red Beta and Blue Omega to patrol three units out from the fleet and the remaining ships to stay within the fleet. Contact Planetary Exploraion Team One to prepare their science vessel for planetary exploration and approval for colonization. Tell them they have one week to decide the planet is safe. Contact the EFS London that they are next in line to colonize if the planet proves to be safe."
Data sent to Scorpions and message sent to Planetary Exploraion Team One to be on standby for launch.
Janet O'Brian turned toward the command chair and brushed her blond hair away from her face, which happened often. "EFS London reports they are preparing and will be ready."
Jerry nodded and turned his attention back to the status board and waited for al of the lights to turn green.
Steve carried his helmet as he walked across the Central Park sized flight deck toward his Scorpion. He nodded at the other squadron leaders walking to their ships. As he approached his Scorpion Athena slid the canopy open while one of the ground crew place the ladder by the ship. Steve nodded at his flight prep-crew member.
"All weapons loaded?"
"Yes Sir. I even polished the wingtip phasers for you." Carol, his flight prep-crew leader said with a straight face.
"Is that a joke? I thought you never joked." Steve asked.
"No Sir, I don't."
Jerry glanced at the wingtips and saw the shine and shook his head. "We need to activate your funny bone."
Steve shook ia head as he climbed into the Scorpion. "Athena, status of squadron."
All ships ready, Boss. Waiting for the team to arrive.

Kristen nodded to Darius as she walked away. "Will do." She confirmed with him. She headed directly down to the Scorpion bays and into the changing room without stopping by her quarters to change. She waved at Sasha as she entered. "Hey there." She greeted her fellow pilot as she opened her locker and cleaned the light film of makeup off her face then changed into her flight suit.

Darius watched Kristen go after telling him she would call him once she got back. He wasn't sure when that would be, but he was glad she liked him enough to give him her contact details. He glanced down at them, then put the paper into his wallet. He then smiled when Jonas flew back to his shoulder and squawked 'Buh-bye' at her retreating form even though she probably didn't hear the bird. He guessed the ship was in hyperspace and wondered if they found another planet to possibly colonize, that was usually why pilots got beeped to go on duty if they were off having fun, at least he hoped she'd been having fun. He wandered in the direction of his apartment, not really in a hurry or sleepy, since Jonas liked it outside and the bird kept up a constant chatter of squawks whistles and simple phrases as he went, making him smile and answer back once in awhile. "I hope you like her." He finally told the bird. "Cause I think I'd like her hanging around a bit more." He reached up and scratched the bird on the head as he walked, hoping she wouldn't mind hanging around someone who had a bird for a companion.

"We're ready for launch, Sasha, whenever the Captain gives the signal," Sammy informed his pilot. "This is a standard patrol of a possible Earth-compatible planet. Red Beta and Blue Omega are escort and defense for the Exploration Team."
"Roger that, Sammy," Sasha replied as she donned her helmet but didn't secure it yet, then began to manually check the ship's console out of habit and because she and Sammy always double-checked each other.
Waiting for the order to launch from their Captain was always the hardest for Sasha. She almost grew too excited to wait, but her military training provided her with the patience she needed.

Jerry nodded in satisfaction at the timing of readiness for the squadrons being so good. "Alert flight deck Alpha to go to flight status yellow."
On flight deck Alpha, situated on the top of the Washington DC, the lights turned from white to yellow. Flight prep crews rushed off the flight deck as the Scorpions lifted a few feet off the deck in unison controlled by each squadron leader's AI and moved as one unit to face the "open" end of the deck where space was held back with a forcefield. Some people never got use to knowing that the cold vacuum of space could be held back by what looked like nothing and many of the original flight crews had been washed out because of that.
Command reports launch red in two minutes. Athena reported to all fighters pilots of Blue Omega Squadron.
Steve checked his weapons system and found them on active standby, as usual with the AIs preparing the ships. "Standby Blue Omega, we are assigned shuttles one and two."
Time seemed to stand still for a long time as adrenaline rushed through Steve's body.
In normal space several bright flashes of white light formed several light minutes from the planet and the Galileo. The Galileo's nevigator announced the effect calmly. " White hole formation in sector two three, multiple marks arriving."
Where once there was nothing was now suddenly filled with over a thousand ships.
On the flight deck, the lights switched to red. Moments later Blue Omega Squadron punched through the forcefield and streaked into space as one.
"Break link and hold pattern for the shuttles. Red Beta is assigned to shuttles three and four. Remaining fighters will patrol the fleet." Steve ordered, being the most senior pilot in space he was responsible for giving that order even though each squadron knew their orders. Ah, the military he thought to himself as he angled his Scorpion toward launch bay Beta on the bottom of the Washington DC, where the shuttles would launch from.

All ships accounted for and safe. Scorpions away and shuttles launching in three minutes. Galileo on approach to join the fleet. All systems read green.
"Very good," Jerry responded, " Take us out five thousand meters from fleet once the shuttles are away."
