And here's more on one of the more troubling aspects I've been posting about-
Jewish leaders are now joining the call for the media to cover anti-semitism within Occupy:

While different POV's on topics are encouraged in OT, posting material in any attempt to "one-up" the other side isn't.  Please make sure your posts are adding something to the discussion and that they are not just inflaming an already tense situation.  Everyone, please remember to take a step back and count to 10 before you post yet another horrific account  from a questionable source.

Thank you all.

Also a growing problem now is the selective editing and accounting for the ratcheting up of violence:

But the initial 17 seconds were conveniently missing.  The mob actually counted down to en masse pushing over the police; with chants of "Who's streets-Our streets!" and screaming obscenities:

As Adam Baldwin posits, if we don't want the police to keep order, the alternative is Mob Rule - and it's frightening IMO how the "Do Over this society!" sentiment throughout is manifesting itself with anarchists' tactics.

The original op is that we are filthy and violent. Posting pictures (I can reference the crap out of them if you need - hell, they are hot-links, anyone can track them down themselves) of people who are neither filthy, or violent, having instead violence used upon them, is certainly apropos to the op, in my opinion. If they are shocking images, good they should be.

well Hambil, what do you expect from the 1% (proclaims to anyway)?  of course then we 99% are the devil because you know, God forbid they not pay their fair share. :sarcasm:

bet the Marine who showed his anger verbally only to the NYPD would be painted with the same brush, despite his two tours in Iraq/Afghanistan.

Let's just say, having been on the ground, the police and mayors in general are doing far more to start violence than the protesters.

In Seattle, they have done everything they can to make sure the movement is a powder keg - by making people sleep in the rain (not even allowing them umbrellas) all kinds of silly passive aggressive tactics for weeks. All I've seen on twitter feeds and livefeeds and on the ground is people in the movement and Anonymous doing everything they can think of to keep the protest non-violent.

The distortion between what is really happening, and what is being reported, is frankly a bit scary.

What on earth are you talking about? Hambil and I haven't posted ANYTHING that hasn't been verified by a number of reputable sources.

"One-upmanship" also has nothing whatever to do with the posts here.

The opening posts were regurgitated right-wing propaganda, and are well-known for what they are.

I responded with videos that are verified, non-partisan, and reputable.

What's happening on the ground in several of the "occupy" locations is nothing short of fascism.

The job of police is to "serve and protect". Shooting rubber bullets at unarmed civilians who are legally voicing their
disgust at the kind of widespread and debilitating corruption that's ruining the Middle Class's standard of living, the
democratic process, and contributing to the entrenchment of entitlement and corruption, is not the work of police. It's
the work of paid goons.

By the way, that photo of the guy crapping on the police car?

Someone ran the number of the police car and discovered that it belongs to the 81st precinct, which is in Brooklyn. Turns out it's a photo of a homeless guy crapping on a police car in Brooklyn that was used out of context in yet another attempt to vilify the "occupy" movement.

In other words, in terms of the Occupy Wall Street movement, it's a fake.

You can check for yourself if you like.

re: Oakland

My brother and I both watched it on livefeed. The protesters had cameras and video everywhere. I promise you, I saw it, this was police brutality against peaceful protesters. I don't know which has me more shocked - seeing it, or watching how it's being spun.

As Nittany Lioness has pointed out, the reports coming out of the media are often over-the-top, button-pushing, sensationalist lunacy. But- is this not typical of the GOP and their lap-dog media?

It's corporations are that using the media (if not the GOP) to hit back at the "occupy" movement. What's truly mystifying is the legions of poor and working-class Republicans who should know better, although they're being true to form, as they were in the 50's (McCarthyism), 60's (counterculture movement), 70's (Vietnam), and 80's (Reagan's "trickle-down economics" nonsense).

If the poor and working-class members of the Republican party ever wake up . . .

^ You don't really believe the strength of America is in the people who make money, and not in the teachers and blue-collar union workers, do you?

You don't really believe that just because they're successful in one field, they would automatically be more successful than other Americans at anything they tried? That they just naturally *belong* at the top of the pyramid? That wealth is primarily a function of superiority?

I guess you can build a nation on those rules if that's what you believe, and I guess it will have liberty. Just don't expect any it to posess any other redeeming virtues.

I don't even know where to begin with this dishonest bit of propaganda.  Let's go with the part about
no one complained when the Market was at 14,000.  I'm sure there were a few who complained and probably
warned that Wall Street was at it again and creating another bubble that they wouldn't have to pay for.
Rape everyone in sight and then bail.  The people who's pensions went up 3 times probably lost their
pensions in the end.

I want my taxes to be used for stuff we all need.  Education, infrastructure, Police, Fire and rescue
and stuff like that.  I don't want it used to bail out a bunch of greedy asswipes who belong in prison
not threatening to leave a lousy tip.  How arrogant these criminals are.

Another Democrat leaning Independent that has to search for truth because it can't be found on Fox News OR MSNBC.

There's more than just filth and violence going on. "The University of Wisconsin-Madison Daily Cardinal reports (emphasis mine):

Quote

City officials temporarily denied Occupy Madison a new street use permit Wednesday after protesters violated public health and safety conditions and failed to follow the correct processes to renew or amend a permit.

The permit, which expired Wednesday at noon, required Occupy Madison protesters to relocate from their current space at 30 West Mifflin Street, also called 30 on the Square.

A neighboring hotel’s staff alleged voiced concerns about having to recently escort hotel employees to and from bus stops late at night due to inappropriate behavior, such as public masturbation, from street protesters.

We have been led to believe we live in a meritocracy, but we don't. The 'American Dream' has become more like a National Lottery.
