Is it just me, or is that plot incoherent?
You could do a fine drama about the issues involved in whether to fire the missiles-- that was Crimson Tide, and it was a pretty good movie-- but once you make that decision, I would think the only honorable thing to do would be to go home and face the court martial.
If you don't, not only are you acting nutty and treasonous, but the only way you're getting accepted as a "nation" is if you're making the implicit threat to nuke something if you get disrespected. Which effectively makes the captain and officers terrorists.
Or is this near-future setting going to pose a political picture so different that all of the above somehow isn't true? Because assuming a world anything like our own, I don't see how that idea could be made plausible. Am I missing something?
