Miranda walked onto the Ebon Hawk, not bothering to close her powers this time. If she was going to spend any personal time with this Lex character, he was going to have to get used to who she was real fast. She resisted the urge to flex her bone blades. She had a few spare knives, several magazines of various kinds of ammo, and just in case, a very powerful rifle guaranteed to blow a huge hole in the gut of just about anything it came across. Unfortunately, it didn't have very many charges, and carrying it around was difficult. If any time was the right time to use it, though, it was now. She nodded to the captain as she passed, saying, "Lovely day for a bit of a scrap, don't you think?" She took a seat, setting her bag underneath of her. She tapped a booted toe on the floor of the ship, connecting to the sensor relays. Right now, they couldn't see much of anything since they were still in the hangar bay, but soon enough it would be picking up all sorts of information she would have to sort through.

Lex walked with Captain Rowe to the armory and waited patiently while she donned her armor and weapons. He understood what kind of chance she was taking with someone she knew nothing about and he appreciated the trust in allowing him to keep his weapons and not locking him in his quarters or something. Not that doing so would do any good, if he really wanted out, he could get out, but he would have honored the restriction in deference to diplomacy. He noted that most everyone was there at the Ebon Hawk, as he recognized them from their dossiers. Except for one, a Nietzschean female who walked past...yet she wasn't what she appeared to be. He glanced at her again and paused as he regarded her and saw her for what she was, yet he could also tell that she was somehow heavily underpowered and he wondered what happened. He would have to ask about her later though as Daze had greeted him. "Greetings, Daze." He returned politely.

Josh was waiting with the others when Cath and Lex showed up. Apparently the Celestrian traveled with his own armor, and was sporting some very mean-looking blades on his back. For once, Josh was glad that he was on their side, at least for the moment, and he boarded the Hawk, waiting for the others to board as well. He wasn't looking forward to this mission, he had a bad feeling, but then again, Magog always gave him a bad feeling.

Cath waited a moment longer then smiled at Josh before boarding the Ebon Hawk. She went straight to the bridge and took a seat at the weapon station. She'd arranged for two Lancers to join them on the mission although their duty would be to simply remain aboard the 'Hawk and guard it while they went out Magog-hunting. She was uneasy about this mission. She didn't like Magog especially after last time but there was something about this mission that was making her feel uneasy but she couldn't put her finger on it. Catherine took a slow, deep breath as she waited for the others to board and take their stations to help dispel the unease.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dawn boarded the Ebon Hawk and stood towards the back of the bridge, wrapping one hand around a support strut so that she would remain in position during the flight. She had been slightly surprised that Cath had allowed Lex out of his quarters and invited him on the mission so soon. Other than the historical records of what Celestrians were like he was a stranger to them. Not to mention the Celestrians could have changed a lot during the past three centuries. But then again Cath had invited a range of unknown and sometimes potentially untrustworthy people into her crew including herself and Athena. Nevertheless Dawn kept an eye on their latest newcomers, Miranda and Lex. Not out of any particular suspicion but to learn more about them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Daze walked aboard the Ebon Hawk and up to the bridge where he took a seat in one of the empty and spare chairs near the back where passengers could sit. Things had gotten interesting with himself, Miranda and a Celestrian now on the crew. Sooner or later Catherine would have to know at least something about them. Not all of course but something. He would have to give some careful consideration what to tell her after this mission. She trusted him as a friend and advisor-he knew that much from the many afternoons sharing a cup of tea and talking. After the mission. Daze wasn't sure that all of the crew would survive what was on the base. He would of course try to see to it that they all did of course. Absently his tail twitched in agitation as he tried to work through the probabilities while waiting for everyone to get ready so the Ebon Hawk could take off.

Well, now that the captain was here it was time to take her place at the sensor station. There wasn't much she could do, as she had noted before, but soon enough there would be. It would get her away from Lex, which was only a benefit. She grabbed her bag and walked over to the console, waking it up with a touch and resting a palm on the side. The connection was enough to make her smile, a close-lipped predator's grin. This was how it should have been aboard the Path. She could feel...everything. She could hear the ventilation systems as they processed the air. She could feel the rumble of the engines. She could reach through the console and paint radiation artwork on the wall of the hangar bay, if she so desired. It would take everything she had and, unfortunately, more, to fly the ship on her own even from the console, but the computers were hers. Of course, she wouldn't do anything the captain wouldn't like, because she was certain that Daze would throw even bigger a fit than Catherine would, but the Ebon Hawk was small enough that she could do everything necessary,everything she was capable of, from elsewhere on the ship. Unfortunately, if she ran onto the bridge shouting, "Captain, there's something wrong!", people would want to know how she knew. Life was easier when you played along.

Erica strapped herself in near Daze, watching everyone settle in and prepare to take off, especially the newcomer, Lex. She'd never seen anyone like him before, but if he was here to help them defeat the Magog then more power to him. Erica turned with a half-smile to their purple doctor.

"Oh yay," she said with a sigh, "more fighting with the Magog, huh, Daze?" Erica tried to hide her nervousness by gathering her hair into a ponytail. "Think we'll make it?" the Nietzschean asked absently, not really expecting the doctor to tell the future.

Lex walked on board behind Captain Rowe and Josh, nodding politely to the other crewmembers who were going along. He recognized all of them except the new Nietzschean, who wasn't a Nietzschean and he had a feeling that only Daze also knew what she really was and if he had allowed her near his mortals then there was no reason to disclose to anyone else her true nature. She appeared to be a bit nervous around him, though she had no reason to be, but he simply found a seat on the other side of Daze and listened to the chatter of the other crew while they got ready to launch, his tail twitching much like the tail of the purple pixie as he could feel something ominous in the air, something that he didn't like.

Josh boarded with Cath and sat next to her as they got ready to go. He hoped that Lex would prove her trust in him in letting him come along as he was difficult to read through the polite exterior that he presented. At least he did appear capable, if his custom armor and weapons said anything. He glanced at Cath as they buckled in and noted that she appeared to be uneasy. "I don't like that look." He said to her. "Any particular reason for it, or is it just the Magog?"

Daze sat back and tried to relax a bit as the Ebon Hawk was launched and headed down towards the surface after Macavity bombarded the parked swarmships in the hangar. He looked over at Erica when she asked him if he thought they'd make it this time. He was startled for a moment then realised she was just asking without any suspicion that he actually did have precognition. "I'd like to think so." He replied with a reassuring smile. "We're better than some smelly furry magog." This was true, but magog were not the only things they would face today. Daze was quite prepared to use the vast powers at his command if he had to.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I'm not really sure." Catherine replied to Josh after launch. "It just seems a little too easy so far." That was it, she decided. Even with Lex unexpectedly showing up things had been going a little too smoothly. But fighting magog was seldom so simple. The journey down to the surface was short and soon Cori had landed them next to an airlock on the side of the fortress while Dawn connected the two airlocks. "We can go inside now." She announced. Cath nodded then stood up. "Lets move out." With Daze and Dawn behind her she headed to the airlock and opened it, waiting for it to cycle through, then opened up the other airlock. Through it she could see a plain metal corridor. No magog yet. Cath glanced at the others then cautiously stepped through into the fortress.
"You have a point." Josh said as he stood with Cath once Cori landed them. Things had been going pretty easily for them, especially now. Once Cath stepped through the airlock into the corridor, he stepped through with her, glancing up and down it as he waited for the others to also step through.
Lex listened as Erica asked Daze if they were going to make it and he paid attention as Daze answered her. Something about the way he said that he hoped sounded ominous, as if they were going to run into something other than Magog. Well, all they could do was to do their best and he stood and followed Captain Rowe, Daze, Dawn and Commander Salroka through the airlock and into the corridor. He then moved down a bit to give the others room to join them and kept a watch out while they gathered.
Oh yeah, there was something wrong here. Every fiber of her Nietzchean being screamed it. She walked out the airlock fully armed--knives in her boots and up her sleeves, one in the back of her belt, two holstered pistols, a force lance (she'd never bothered to learn to fire one, but anyone could whack things with sticks), and her kill-big-things gun. Hopefully, the kill-big-things gun, which she lovingly referred to as Butcher, wouldn't be necessary. She kept a pistol in one hand, and her other hand on a still-holstered pistol. "Anyone else have a bad feeling about this?" she said quietly. Surely she wasn't the only one. She kept her pistol aimed down the corridor. She couldn't find the computers here. Not that there weren't any--she could feel their existence. She just couldn't read them or locate them. She backed up to stand next to Daze. "Something's wrong, Daze. Something's very wrong," she whispered, only to him. "I'm blind as a Commonwealth pilot in Pyrese system." Pyrese system was known for being filled with toxic waste, and it had to be piloted by sight. It was very, very dangerous if you didn't know your way around.
Cori left the safety of the Ebon Hawk cautiously. Even surrounded by what ever armour the commonwealth could provide and a small force of apparently super fighters this place made him feel about as safe as the time someone decided that he should be smuggled in an air tight compartment while some drift security decided they hadn't been bribed enough. Miranda's comment drifted straight over his head. His fingers twitched on the triggers as every sound around them was amplified by his nervousness.
"I always have a bad feeling when it comes to Magog." Josh said in answer to Miranda's question, then he lowered his voice as he moved down the corridor a bit. "But somehow this feels like jumping from a spaceship without an EVA suit." Were they somehow walking into a trap? He didn't know if the Magog were capable of such organized thinking, even with their mysterious leader, this Spirit of the Abyss. Best to be very cautious till they saw what they were dealing with.
Lex moved down the corridor a bit as well, all of his senses were on high alert. Something wasn't right and he knew it. He just didn't know what that something was. It didn't really matter, they had Magog to deal with and if they were expected then maybe his presence would throw an unexpected wrinkle into their plans since they probably didn't expect him to be among the landing party.
Tommy was ready for a fight, good though the downtime had been he was getting bored with having so little to do.  He was clad in armour like the rest of the crew.  Like most humans he hated Magog but he didn't particularly fear them.  The were despicable and cold but they could be killed and he'd killed quite a few.  He looked round at the rest of the crew.  He was puzzled by the woman called Miranda, she was very different from anyone he'd ever met before.  Tommy followed the others off the Hawk quietly he also felt uneasy.
"I think this is a plan to get us here," he said.  We're the ones being targeted not the colonists."
Kaytee was one very nervous person by the time the Hawk landed and attached to the airlock of the hideout. She'd gotten into a set of armor and was carrying a gauss gun as she stepped into the airlock. That everyone else was acting a bit jumpy and anxious didn't help her nerves any, but if they were going to try to get to the PSPs then she had to be along to make sure they could move them without setting them off. She moved so that she was standing with Cath, trying to control her nerves as everyone gathered to start searching the base.
Walking with the others through the airlock into the metal corridor, a chill passed over Erica. She was next to Cori and barely pressed against him, more for what little comfort it gave her than anything else. Then she did something she rarely did. She snarled quietly and nearly growled deep in her throat. She sensed Cori glance at her in surprise but say nothing.
Erica agreed with Tommy...this felt like a trap. But so far they'd seen nothing. Holding her forcelance tightly she walked silently with the others wondering like hell if someone was going to die down here. She glanced at her group of friends then at Cori, her bright green eyes fearful.
Catherine listened to the quiet conversation of her crew as she walked down the metal corridor step by step in a measured fashion. She understood their sense of unease perfectly since they were mirroring what she was feeling herself. She considered the idea of it being a trap for them specifically as Tommy had suggested. It was Dawn who spoke up with an artificial level of calm in her voice. "Its unlikely that if this is a trap its designed for us specifically." She said. "There was never any guarantee that it would be us who would come here, nor the Andromeda. The Mentakan authorities could have come here." There was a pause so slightly it was barely noticable. "However given the ease of which we've tracked the Magog here and that there were no external defences and we've encountered no internal defences it oculd be a trap." Cath slowed her pace even further. She didn't like this one bit.
Finally she held up her hand to bring the group to a halt having decided that the risk factor had gotten unnacceptably high and that it was more prudent to retreat at this point and sent some drones in to scout the fortress before she and her crew returned to eliminate the magog once it was safe. But as soon as she raised her hand a blue light appeared further down the corridor and travelled towards them. As it reached them several things happened at once. Daze unexpectedly grabbed her and Josh with his hands and Dawn with his tail and yanked them aside and against the wall. The floor where Erica, Kaytee, Miranda and Tommystood seemed to shimmer and shift out of phase causing them to fall through the floor before solidifying. And from her position flattened against the wall Cath heard the growls and squeals of magog as a small swarm of them swarmed down the corridor towards them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Agreed." Daze whispered to Miranda. "I'm working on my precognition to find out what." In the end it was his crewmates talking about the possibility that they were walking into a trap that finally caused the probabilities to shift then settle in his mind. They were right. This was a trap and it was meant for either himself and the crew of the Path or Trance and the crew of the Andromeda. Whichever one responded to the Mentakan request and was one of several placed around the known worlds. He blinked. A trap designed to capture a Solar Avatar and their mortals? The Abyss had indeed gotten bold. He opened his mouth to suggest they retreat when Catherine had apparently decided to do the same thing but the tesseract trap was already sprung. He could see it travelling down the corridor. Grimly Daze grabbed the nearest three crewmembers and pulled them against the wall while using his own considerable telekinetic powers to partially disperse the tesseract field. He was only partially successful as some of the crew fell through the floor into the trap while others remained safe. He gritted his teeth when he heard the sounds of magog approaching.

Erica would have screamed but the sudden drop was so...well, sudden, that she didn't even have time to react. All she knew was that she was falling through the floor and the feeling didn't stop. She felt her stomach turn upside down even though she could tell she was falling straight, feet first, down through a room then through that floor. It was a disorienting sensation, unnatural and frightening, to be passing through solid matter.

Suddenly she hit the ground, not too hard but enough to jar her body and cause her to gasp in shock. She was brought to her hands and knees roughly on cement. It took her a moment to catch her breath, the only thing in her line of sight at the moment being huge metal doors. She heard sounds around her and turned to see Tommy and Kaytee with her.

Automatically, as a fighter, one hand went for her gauss pistol at her thigh to help protect her friends but there was nothing there. She swore, shaking her head to clear it.

Erica didn't know that all her weapons were back on the floor in a pile next to Cori.

"Is everyone alright?" Erica growled, her voice low and worried.

Josh could feel the hairs on the back of his neck prickle as they made  their way down the corridor and he had never been so uneasy in his life.  Why wasn't there any resistance? They had to know there were intruders...then Cath raised her hand for them to stop, presumably to order them back, but then he yelped in surprised, because at the same time that a blue light started flashing down the corridor, he was yanked aside and somehow didn't go through the floor like some of the others. When Daze let him go he looked around and immediately saw who was missing. Kaytee, Tommy, Erica and Miranda had all disappeared through the floor and all of their equipment was sitting in heaps where they had been standing when the floor swallowed them. Then he heard the unmistakeable sounds of advancing Magog, so he tightened his grip on his forcelance and moved to a more central location in the corridor. "Everyone take care." He said as he waited for them.

Lex had ventured down the corridor with the others, but he could tell something was wrong, something was very wrong and then when Captain Rowe had signaled a stop that's when he saw the tesseract field advancing towards them. He had just enough time to flatten himself against the wall, wrapping his tail around a support strut and hanging on before it passed him by and dissipated soon after. When the floor became solid again, and then his sharp ears picked up the advancing Magog just before Josh said something and he already had his gun in his hand and had moved away from the wall a bit and turned to face the direction they were coming from.

Kaytee had been creeping down the corridor behind Tommy when she saw Cath raise her hand and she stopped. Then, before she could do anything at all, a blue light shot down the corridor and the floor opened up beneath her. All she could manage was a startled yelp as she fell through the floor, into the room below, then she fell through that floor too. All in all, the sensation was like nothing she'd ever experienced. She wasn't falling fast, but due to her small size, when she did hit the floor she collapsed into a heap, breathless and probably bruised in several places. And her knee hurt too, like she might have twisted it on landing or something. She lay there, gasping and trying to catch her breath as she heard a couple of other thumps as well, telling her that she wasn't the only one, nor could she feel her backpack on her back anymore and her weapon was no longer in her hand. She heard Erica ask if anyone was all right, but she didn't have the breath to answer just yet.

When Erica's head had cleared she realized Kaytee was laying in a crumpled heap on the floor. She crawled over to her friend, brushing the hair from her face.

"Breathe, Kaytee," she whispered, focusing on the engineer for the moment. "Deep breaths. Then tell me what hurts."

Kaytee blinked and tried to breathe normally when she heard Erica telling her to. She could feel her trying to brush her curly hair away from her face, but it was having none of that and just kept falling back like it always did. Finally she shifted around onto her back and looked up at the female Niet and blinked again when she told her to tell her what was hurting. "Everywhere, it feels like." She said, still a bit breathless. "But I think I twisted my knee when I hit the floor of this..." She glanced around and frowned. ".....big metal box..."

Miranda's eyes widened at the sight of the tesseract coming her way. No, no no no-- she thought as it hit the floor below her before she could move. As she fell, she realized that maybe joining Daze on his little mission had been about as wise as the time she decided to fly solo through three hours of slipstream and...

As Miranda realized she was trapped immobile, she began to mutter under her breath. "Oh, sure, Daze, let me join you and your mery band. What could possibly go wrong? " She tried to turn her head, but wasn't successful. "Well," she said at normal volume, "I'm alive. Mostly unharmed, but when we find the guy in charge here I want the first shot."

With a corner of her mind, she realized that while she could still use her bone blades, all her other weapons were missing. She hoped that the crew remembered to grab her things--she would hate to lose the Butcher.
