Time Jump: Six months later.

Time Stamp: 19:40

Six months had passed since the Guardian Unit of Delmi had successfully killed the Necromancer and his Demon allies, preventing the demons from making a permanent hole between their realm and this one to invade through. About three days after they had returned to Delmi the Kilairi reported that all the soft spots and weakened areas in the barrier that seperated this world from all the others had suddenly healed of their own accord with no discernable reason why. The more religious among them had attributed to an act of one of the Gods or Goddesses but there was no proof of that either.

Autumn/Fall had turned to winter then winter had given way to spring. Aside from the occasional pack of feral lycans or the odd vampire who tried it's luck a little too close to Delmi's borders, all had been quiet for the last six months and the job of the Guardians had been relatively easy. The formation of Guardian Units in other towns and cities had proven successful and now most of the old bands of Supernatual Hunters were now paid and recognised Guardian Units. Although officially never named as a division soley for protection against supernatural evils the rumours had grown with some of the general population believing their true role. Even small villages now usually had between two and four Guards and Guardians each stationed.

True to their word the Kilairi had approached the Arl of Delmi and the Queen of Sandesina with diplomatic intentions and ambassadors and various trade agreements had been reach. Firearms were now becoming more frequently used by law enforcement and little bits of Kilairi engineering and technology were appearing in Sandesina although it nowhere near rivalled the unity in Tialyn's native universe. As ever in the Delmi area the Ellecrys Temple remained a place where the Kilairi lived although a small village had expanded next to it, allowing trade and where the Kilairi Ambassadors lived.

All was well and peaceful in Delmi... for now.

Joanna for her part was at the house that she shared with Talyn, lounging on the sofa in the living room. They'd gotten married a couple of months ago and moved into a bigger house thanks to the better pay they got as Guardians. At seven months pregnant she was officially on maternity leave. Graayth usually lead the nightly patrols around Delmi and those in the surrounding area now. It still felt a little strange, she decided as she glanced out of the window at the setting sun of what had been a lovely warm spring day. Normally she would be preparing for the nightly patrol by now. Jo still regularly attended the meetings and helped out with enough paperwork at the HQ to keep herself in the loop. But not tonight. Tonight she was going to stay at home. She patted her belly affectionately when the baby kicked her. It was worth it, especially when Talyn spoilt her rotten at every opportunity.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Graayth was in his hut on the outskirts of Delmi preparing for the nightly patrol of Delmi. The two teams of Guardians took it in turns. One week it would be Joanna's team, now temporarly his, the next week it would be Khazar's team and so on an so fourth. This was their fifth night of their week on duty. As usual Graayth didn't bother with the armoured version of the Guardian uniform, preferring his black cloth version modified with a few easy buttons to allow him to step out of it quickly when he wanted to shift into his beast form. He picked up his sheathed sword and clipped it about his waist, again the belt was designed with an easy clip that released it if he needed. He glanced out the window at the setting sun and nodded. Almost time to meet the others at the Guardian Unit HQ.
Talyn finished up the food he was fixing, put it on a tray and brought it out to Jo, who was lounging, as she should be. Since they'd gotten back six months ago he'd spoiled her shamelessly and was continuing to do so. The Arl hadn't argued when Joanna approved his paternity leave to be with her during the final weeks before their daughter would be born and he was making the most of it. He stopped to just look at her for a bit when he entered the room with the food and no one could convince him that his wife wasn't the most beautiful woman in the world, even seven months pregnant. He smiled and brought the food over to her, sat next to her and snuggled her. "Have I told you lately that I love you?" He asked.
Sephira glanced at herself in the looking glass as she finished getting dressed for the patrol tonight. Six months had passed since the necromancer, his demon and undead had been taken care of and now the rips and tears had been mended by some unknown. She herself believed one of the gods or goddesses had mended the tears for them, possibly in appreciation for stopping the ones responsible for the tears in the first place. She would never know for sure, but then faith didn't always need proof. She picked up her knives and placed them about her person, then went out with Gaelan to HQ to meet up with Graayth and the others.
Vincent rode his red stallion into town and towards the HQ just as the sun went down. He didn't wear armor like the mortals did, it slowed him when he didn't want to be slowed. He instead wore a cloth version similar to Graayth's. He had his sword and knives in their usual places and turned the stallion over to a stableboy when he arrived and dismounted. He then waited for the others to arrive.
Dressed for the evening meeting at the Guardian Unit headquarters, Tialyn made her way from the bedroom to the kitchen of her house.
Her house.
The other Tialyn's house.
They were one in the same these days. Six months ago Joanna had given her the keys and all of her counterparts belongings. For all intents and purposes, she was now this universes' Tialyn, never to see her former universe again.
The original Morning Star was with the Arl, where she'd gone way back when. Tialyn's Morning Star had made herself at home in the stables, along with Yamanu, her "mystery cat" that seemed to mostly take of himself yet remain with her. Tialyn's presence had been explained truthfully to the Arl and those that knew about the supernatural and the Guardian Unit's work. Everyone else had been led to believe she was "family" also named Tialyn. Most of the people of Delmi had accepted that explanation, having their own lives to worry about and not really that concerned. Tialyn kept mostly to herself anyway, beyond being with her Guardian team.
At first it had been hard for the Elviri. First, running into this universes' Reece immediately after hearing that her's had died; then finding out that the previous incarnation of herself and the Reece here hadn't been "together." Truthfully, that actually had made it easier. City Guard Hadrian hadn't expected anything from her. Indeed, Tialyn had avoided him as much as possible for the first few months, and Reece hadn't sought her out either.
But time apparently did heal...and slowly Tialyn began to forget her old life. This universe was so much like hers in many ways that once she accustomed herself to the less "advanced" parts, she began to think of this as "home." That included her new...but familiar...friends, her job, their work. Even the pain of losing her Reece lessened. Eventually, she and the Reece here had begun a tentative friendship several months ago. He seemed just to feel just as awkward as she did, having lost his dear friend...so he'd called the other Tialyn...and then had been shocked to see "her" alive again.
She headed out to the stables and threw a bridle on Morning Star along with a light saddle. Mounting gracefully up on the horse's back, Tialyn guided her toward the road; but the horse knew the way to the headquarters and turned by herself in the right direction on the road. It wasn't long before the building came into view, and a stable hand took her horse.
Tialyn entered the building to see Vincent already there. She greeted him with a smile.
Vincent looked around when he heard someone come in and he smiled in answer to the smile coming from her. He knew it had been a difficult six months for her, but she seemed to be adjusting to living in their less-advanced universe. "Good evening." He addressed her.
Sephira enjoyed the walk to the headquarters with Gaelan, it gave them a chance to chat about their day. She saw Tialyn and Morning Star ahead of them, having turned off of a side path, and she smiled as the other Elviri disappeared up the path to the building that housed the Guard and Guardian headquarters. She had seemed to adjust to living here in this universe and had seemed happier lately. Sephira hurried the rest of the way to the headquarters and went inside, where she saw that Vincent was already there with her. "Good evening, you two." She said cheerfully.
"Evening, Sephira." Vincent said, returning the other Elviri's greeting. "Gaelan." He added when Gaelan walked in with her.
Graayth had stepped out of his hut and was starting a leisurely walk towards the Guardian HQ. The evening was a quiet one with barely a breeze stirring the trees and plants. So it was immediately noticable when a roar shattered the peace and quiet. Graayth frowned as he looked around. In several centuries of life he'd never quite heard a roar like that. His sharper-than-usual hearing allowed him to pinpoint the source of the second roar as it sounded. Graayth stared in surprise for a few seconds as a red-coloured dragon swooped out of the sky towards the farms. Instinctively he knew what the the beast wanted. Food. Food as in the herds of animals in the field and possibly the farmers who were tending them. Instantly he headed towards the dragon as it continued its glide towards the farms. With the way it was roaring and the shrieks of the terrified farmers the Lycan knew that most of Delmi would hear it including the other Guardians making their way to the meeting.
Vincent glanced around sharply when he heard the roaring outside and he was out the door almost before the others could react. He'd never quite heard anything like it, but it sounded like a very large predator who was hunting. Once outside, he ran with the speed granted him as a vampire, as he also heard the shrieks of the terrified people. When he broke through the tree line at the edge of the farm, he paused for only a moment when he saw the source of the roaring. A large, red dragon was bearing down on some herd animals, so Vincent pulled his sword and dashed after Graayth, who was already heading for it. The other Guardians would soon follow as they didn't have the speed that he and the werewolf had.
Vincent had barely gotten his greeting out when Sephira heard an ungodly roar, and then Vincent dashed out the door. She turned and ran outside herself, not nearly as fast as the Daywalker, but as fast as she could be anyway. When she reached the source of the roaring and terrified shrieks, she couldn't help but gawk at the red dragon bearing down on the farm. She then pulled her daggers and ran in, still quite a ways behind Vincent, but that dragon was going to be formidable. She's heard of dragons being sighted up in the mountains, but those stories had never been proven. Now, here was one right here in Delmi. She trusted the Gaelan would be right behind her since she didn't take the time to look behind her, these people needed their help, now.
Tialyn followed the others...Gaelan and Sephira had just arrived...when the bellowing roar echoed over Delmi. She nearly launched herself onto Morning Star as the stable hand had been stopped dead in his tracks and was watching the sky, open mouthed.
Her horse's hooves thundering on the dirt road and her own long, white hair flying behind her, Tialyn reached the farms having kept her eyes glued to the amazing and unbelievable sight of a red dragon.
A real, honest-to-damn-goodness dragon!
Bladed-quarterstaff ready and her gun in its holster, she slid off her horse's back as Morning Star shied away slightly under a tree pawing the ground and snorting. But the horse remained nearby,
"SERIOUSLY?" Tialyn shouted, staring into the sky. She waited for a signal from Graayth as to when they were to attack as she ran with the group.
"Guard Hadrian?" a frightened Delmi shopkeeper shouted to the massively-built, bald guard. "What...what is it? Is it coming here?"
Others in town milled around, some in a panic, others staring disbelieving toward the farms on the outskirts of town. They'd heard the horrible roar and shrieks, then seen the red blur in the distance.
"Everyone get inside!" Reece and his City Guard patrol yelled.
They ushered people into their homes and shops, as more of the City Guards were called to duty. They formed a barrier on the edge of town where the noise was coming from, although Reece doubted they could stop whatever was out there. He hoped the Guardian Unit had heard and was on their way.
The Commander of the City Guards, tasked with protecting the town and its people, ordered Reece and two others to ride out to see what was going on. Reece pulled his horse around and started off in the lead, knowing he'd keep his men out of the way if the Guardians were already there. But he had to know the danger in order to protect the people.
And he would help if he could, he thought, as a brief flash of Tialyn flicked in his mind.
Graayth barely slowed down with his running as he shed the sheathe and cloth uniform he was wearing and transformed into his half-beast form in mid-stride. He approached at an angle slightly behind the dragon so that it couldn't see him coming and waited for it to swoop down and catch an unfortunate cow before making his move. Graayth gathered himself, bunched his muscles then sprang up onto the dragon's back with his sword in hand. Even as it roared in astonishment he was already plunging the sword into the dragon's wing then leaping forward whilst still holding on to the handle. The result was him launching himself over the wing with the sword ripping a gaping long tear in the wing and damaging it so that it wouldn't be able to support the dragon in the air, effectively grounding the beast. Graayth's own landing was a little rough but he rolled and was back on his feet with the bloodied sword in hand. The dragon was roaring in pain and already starting to seek him out.
Vincent watched while Graayth jumped on the swooping dragon and tore its wing open with his sword, crippling it enough to keep it grounded so that they all could help stop it from decimating the poor farmer's herds. When the dragon fell back to the ground, Vincent moved in, watching the dragon carefully, trying to get to the side of it. From the stories he'd heard, and it seemed they held some truth, dragons could spit fire, and fire was deadly to any of them. While it was looking around for Graayth, he moved in on its blind side and slashed out with his sword against its back leg, causing another roar of pain, and he quickly moved back and around. He could see Sephira moving in herself and she looked like a child against the beast, but maybe it would be too busy looking for its attackers to pay her much attention.
Sephira veered to the side of the dragon and ran for its other side while Graayth and Vincent got the dragon's attention. She was small and hopefully could sneak around and help cripple it while the two stronger of the group continued to do their own damage. When she managed to run under it, she plunged both daggers straight up, not knowing if they were long enough to hit anything vital, but they would still hurt it. The skin was thick and scaly, so she knew that slowed her down too. When she pulled the daggers back out, she ran out from under it before it could try to kick or stomp on her.
Gaelan hated it when Sephira was in danger, he would never ask her not to fight, he loved his brave, beautiful mate and was very proud of her.  He knew his arrows would not pierce the dragon's skin but he fired them anyway, they might distract it enough for Sephira to use her knives.
He had heard stories about dragons but had never really believed in them.  Gaelan wondered why they had suddenly appeared in Delmi.
While Tialyn helped battle and take down the red dragon, part of her felt a sadness that such a creature...a creature none of them had thought even existed in reality...was being destroyed. She knew it had attacked the farm animals and could have gone after the people of Delmi next, but still, to have to kill something they had just now discovered was heartbreaking.
Nonetheless, Tialyn stabbed with the blade on her quarterstaff and sidestepped the creature's attempts to fight back. She closed her ears and mind to its roars and bellows. It was her job to protect against danger.
Graayth had to jump aside when the dragon located him and blasted the spot where he'd been an instant before with its flaming breath. Even so he was sure the fur on that side had come away a little singed. It occasionally lashed out as the other Guardians attacked it from various directions, some of them getting mere centimetres from being burnt by is flaming breath, clawed or stomped on themselves. As Graayth was about to attack again while it was focusing on Tialyn a second roar echoed through the air although this time it came from the sky. It also sounded different, a little higher in tone and pitch indicating it wasn't the same dragon.
He looked up and indeed there was a second dragon swooping towards them. Graayth growled as he wasn't sure at all that they could take on two dragons and win. However as it got closer he blinked in astonishment. A young but adult hume female with blonde hair and dressed in leathers was riding on the dragon, strapped on its back by a leather harness. The red dragon gave a subdued roar in turn and ceased its attacks on the Guardians. "Hold on there!" The hume female riding the purple dragon's back called out. "Stay calm, it won't attack you further." Graayth didn't lower his sword but he did stay in place, motioning for the other Guardians to do the same as the purple dragon landed a short distance from them.
Vincent had been busy avoiding claws and dragon firebreath when he heard the roar from the sky. He stopped and glanced up, seeing a purple dragon flying towards them. How they were going to take on two dragons, he had no idea, but then he saw the small hume female on the purple one's back. When she told them to hold and Graayth motioned for them to stop, he did, but he held his sword ready as the purple dragon landed a short distance away.
Sephira barely escaped a kick and some claws when the dragon lashed out at her. She was about to dart in for another strike when she heard the roar from the sky. She stopped and looked up to see a purple dragon with a small hume female riding its back. She stopped her attack when Graayth told her to, but she held onto her daggers as the dragon landed nearby.
Staring into the sky at the second approaching dragon, this one purple, Tialyn nearly got stomped by the red one they were fighting. She hopped back quickly and ceased her attack when the hume riding the dragon assured them they would no longer be hurt. The Graayth signaled them to stand down.
Tialyn did this gladly, still aching inside at the harm she'd caused the red dragon. But she kept her quarterstaff ready in case this was a trick.
Reece sent his two guards to help the farmers get out of the way, while he stared in amazement at the new arrival. Another dragon. He moved closer on foot, leaving his horse near Morning Star, to find out what was going on. His Commander would want to know if Delmi was going to be safe or not. However, Reece couldn't help but run a hand over his bald head in disbelief that all this was happening.
Just as he was about to order the shepherd's pie and some hot tea in the cafeteria, Professor Senegoid was startled by a roaring sound unlike anything he had ever heard. And he had heard a lot of roaring in his time. The other odd thing was that the sound seemed to be coming from a direction not horizontal from his position, but more to the vertical. "Never mind," he said to the cafeteria worker who had been about to take his order. "My curiosity is aroused." Holding his walking stick well off the ground, he trotted briskly out of the building and down the street toward the edge of town.
Today was the first day that Eru got to wear her new uniform, a gray dress with easy-opening fasteners down the front. The old uniform had been a problem. Every time she tried to get out of it in a hurry, her legs became entangled in the pants and she fell on her face; it was embarrassing and it slowed her down. Wearing the dress uniform and leaving her feet bare would be a great improvement.
Suddenly, an unearthly roar echoed through the town from the farming field, so loud it seemed to shake the buildings. Without hesitation, Eru popped open the front of her dress in one easy motion, stepped cleanly out of it as it fell to the ground and then somehow tripped and fell on her face for no apparent reason.  With a sigh, she transformed into her Werewolf body and raced out toward the fields at top speed.
Gaelan could hardly believe his eyes.  The purple dragon was swooping through the sky with its rider seemingly at her ease on its back.  Gaelan suddenly felt jealous of the hume.  He would love to be able to fly through the air like that.  How wonderful it must be to see the ground spread out beneath you.
He moved over to Sephira and put his arm round her shoulder.
"Isn't that the most amazing thing," he said softly.
"Isn't that the most amazing thing,"
"It sure is." Sephira said, watching the purple dragon and its rider until they landed. She would love to have one of those, if it was possible. She leaned against Gaelan as she waited for the strange female to join them and also kept half an eye on the red dragon as well.
Viella landed her purple dragon, Melenth near the unusual group of uniformed natives that had been battling the red dragon. With practised ease she unstrapped herself from the riding harness and dismounted from Melenth who helpfully dipped her shoulder and put her foreleg in a suitable position so Viella could use it as a step to get down to the ground. "Thank you for listening to me." She said as she approached them but stopped at a reasonable distance where Melenth could still protect her if necessary. She wasn't quite sure what a werewolf and a vampire were doing fighting alongside mortals and wearing the same uniform. It was very unsual for them to cooperate. "I am Viella. You need not worry about the red dragon here. Melenth-my purple dragon has convinced him not to fight with you further and he will leave your lands alone. He's going to eat that cow that's already dead though to help him recover from his injuries." She explained, casting an eye over his injuries as the red dragon silently moved over to the dead cow and began eating. He'd survive with rest and food but his wing would likely never recover enough to be capable of sustained flight again. Still, a clever dragon didn't need to fly long distances to hunt. She watched as the werewolf walked over to his discarded uniform and reverted into his Hume form and put his uniform back on.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As he buttoned up his uniform Graayth looked over at the dragonrider who had identified herself as Viella. "I'm Graayth, acting Captain of the Guardian Unit of Delmi." He introduced himself formally. "We appreciate your assitance in this matter. But how can you be certain that the red dragon won't return?" He asked, watching both Hume and dragon curiously as he waited for her answer.
