All readers please be aware this is an R-Rated game. If you are under the age of 18 please press your back button now.

Timejump: Three weeks later.

Time Stamp: 11:30am

The Path of Dawn had remained in orbit around Earth while a small fleet from Terazed arrived and secured the planet in combination with the orbital defence network. A new government was being formed under Terazed control and investors and corporations were already starting to arrive by the time they left. Catherine had taken the crew to a resort planet for two weeks' rest and relaxation. But now, refreshed and relaxed they had returned to their mission. They were making a routine stop at Saskari Drift to restock on supplies and catch the latest news and information about what was going on in the known worlds...

Catherine walked down a corridor aboard the drift heading towards the market area. It had been nice to spend two weeks basking at a tropical resort without having to think about the mission. But all vacations had to come to and end and now here she was on Saskari Drift looking for a few spare parts the Ebon Hawk needed. She was fond of her old cargo ship and it was still useful for shipping her teams between planet and the Path. To reduce how noticable she was she wasn't wearing her uniform, preferring to wear her ordinary clothing. She glanced over at Josh as they approached the repair shop.

Josh was walking with Catherine as they shopped for parts for the Ebon Hawk. He was also wearing ordinary clothing since they had just come off of two weeks vacation at a resort planet, two weeks that he had enjoyed very much. They also didn't want to bring unwanted attention to themselves by wearing their uniforms since there was still a lot of resistance to the High Guard and the New Commonwealth wasn't nearly organized yet. They had only signed up a few worlds and were always looking for more, but it was still a crap shoot whether they would sign or resist. He glanced down and smiled at her as they stopped at the repair shop to see if they had the parts that were needed.

Lex was walking around Saskari Drift while Catherine and Josh were shopping for parts that the Ebon Hawk needed. He had spoken to Daze about Kaytee when he managed to catch him alone and Daze had explained that she had needed to go through that so that she could survive later when things would get very dangerous. Now he understood why.

He had spent the two weeks at the resort with the others and his mate had stopped by to share it with him. He spent part of the time informing her about what had been going on since he joined the crew, then they had relaxed along with the rest of the crew.

Kaytee was in the physical therapy room lifting weights while Path was docked at Saskari drift so Catherine could get some parts for Hawk. Things had been going well, according to Daze, who had been there with her every step of her recovery. He had provided her with strong metal drinking glasses while she adjusted to her new enhanced strength and Erica had been teaching her how to adjust to her enhanced eyesight and hearing. She was no longer as wobbly and unbalanced as she was when she first woke up, and the two weeks at the resort had helped her settle down and accept her new form, for the most part. She was starting to sleep better at night and was only wakened occasionally by a persistent nightmare. As for her boneblades, she was starting to adjust to them when moving around or getting dressed. Erica was helping her adjust to them as well, teaching her how to use them. She still winced a bit anytime she looked in the mirror, though she tried to avoid that as much as possible, since even her facial features had changed some and that was taking some getting used to.

Tommy had enjoyed the rest and was now ready to get back to work.  He felt a little uneasy around Kaytee, she was so different now that she had been changed.  He knew that she was really still the same person she had always been but he couldn't quite get used to her.  If he was being totally truthful with himself he felt a little lonely being the only human in their little group.

Catherine spent a nice enough time with Josh buying the parts needed for the Ebon Hawk. There were times when she missed the comparatively easy and routine lifestyle of a cargo ship captain. Haggling for parts was a familiar and practised experiene. She always enjoyed playing ignorant and pretending not to know the quality of the parts she was shown then turning the tables on the unsuspecting shopkeeper. Despite being relaxed however the combination of her military training and years of experience on Drifts alerted her to the fact that on the way back from the shop they were being discreetly trailed by a small group of men from various races. Subtly she signalled Josh and indicated they were being trailed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dawn was also aboard the drift in the marketplace. Since Erica had left recently after receiving a message from her sister the android had been assisting the remaining cooks and the quartermaster in aquiring food supplies and ingredients. Though she didn't eat herself she appreciated that a well-fed crew provided with good food, quality ingredients and fresh fruit and vegetables from the hydroponics gardens was a happier and more productive crew. A fact her central AI also noted. In particular Dawn was looking out for treats that Kaytee liked in hopes it would help cheer her up. After purchasing some eggs and placing them carefully in a protected container her sensors alerted her that the same group of individuals had been following her for some time. Wary after her experience that had led to her capture and eventual freedom by Cath and her crew her hand dropped to her concealed forcelance as she weaved through the crowd to evade her pursuers.
OOC: If your character is aboard the Drift, they will be followed. Whether your character notices it or not is up to you.
Josh nodded when Catherine indicated the assortment of people following them. He didn't know who they were, but if they were following them, then it couldn't be good. He kept a hand near his hidden forcelance as they headed back. They wouldn't be taken by surprise, whatever happened, but hopefully they could get back without incident, though that wasn't looking so good.
Kaytee finished her exercises, then stood and headed for the messhall to get something to eat. She already missed Erica, but she understood. Family matters came first, though she didn't have any to speak of, except the people aboard Path. If she did have any, she didn't know where they were.
She entered the messhall and got a large plate of food before sitting down to eat. She'd never eaten so much at one time in her life, but she seemed to get hungry more easily since the change. Well, at least her metabolism would take care of most of it. As she ate, she thought about all that had changed and was glad her love of all things mechanical hadn't changed, especially of games. Those were what was keeping her grounded, along with Daze. She knew some of the others looked at her differently now, and she couldn't blame them, she had gone through some major changes. At least no one had treated her differently, for the most part, since they saw that she hadn't changed inside.
Lex was heading back to the ship when he stopped and glanced in a store, as if window shopping. What he was actually doing was watching the small group of people who had been following him almost since he had set foot on the drift. He didn't know what they wanted, but he knew it wasn't good. He was pretty sure that his unusual looks, and the fact he was heavily armed had kept them back for the moment, but he didn't know if it would keep them back forever.
Making a decision, he resumed his course for the ship, ready to defend himself if it should become necessary. His tail was now twitching a little in agitation at sensing the danger they posed.
Tommy watched Kaytee enter the messhall.  He was just finishing his meal, he preferred the food on board but he had decided that he would head out to do some shopping.  He needed some new boots and although there were plenty of clothing supplies on board he was looking for something special.
He smiled at Kaytee and nodded to her.  He cleared away his plate and walked over to her table.
"I'm heading out for a while," he said.  "Would you like to come with me?  Thought you might like a walk."
Cori sat in a bar at the drift wondering what he was doing here. A couple of days ago Erica had departed the path to see her sister and he couldn't go with her, "just to make sure he was safe", she'd told him. He'd argued that he'd rather be with her than safe but Erica was going now and he was still here. Looking at the time he realised he should probably get back to the ship. Instead Cori ordered another drink at the bar. He'd go back soon but it's not like he was flying right now so he could afford to be a few minutes late...
Catherine rounded a corner with Josh and that's when the assorted thugs trailing them decided to make their move. She caught the glint of a weapon in the light and jumped aside just in time to avoid being shot. Instinctively she dodged behind a metal waste cannister and drew her forcelance. "I wondered how long it would be before we really made someone mad with this whole 'restoring the Commonwealth' business." She remarked to Josh as she returned fire, taking out a scruffy looking male human with a bad aim.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dawn knew when the ruffians following her made their move when they drew their weapons but what surprised her was when they attempted to use a short-range EMP device on her. Even her android enhanced reflexes barely managed to shoot it out of the Kalderan's hand before he used it on her. As the others started drawing tazers she jumped up into a vent and started crawling away. Even as she crawled she processed the information that her attackers knew that she was an android and had brought weapons specifically to deal with her. Her sensors alerted her that several of them were following her into the vents.

OCC: Have fun with your hired thugs everyone. Fight, run, hide or even be captured. Its up to you. I'll adapt the storyline accordingly.

Josh dove behind another trash bin as soon as he saw the glint of a weapon and the shot that would have taken him down hit the wall harmlessly. He pulled his forcelance and shot that one. He then ducked back down when someone else shot at him. "They are starting to get testy, aren't they?" He quipped, raising up to shoot another attacker.

Kaytee glanced at Tommy and she smiled a bit, then shook her head. "Maybe another time." She said. She was still self-conscious and it would take awhile before she could look in a mirror and not wince at what she saw. The boneblades were a constant reminder that she was no longer a little human. "No offense, but I don't feel like getting out." She said. Then she tucked into one of her favorite desserts, a layered cream cheese, chocolate pudding concoction a nut bottom and whipped cream on top. She was really glad for the enhanced metabolism that let her eat more and understood Erica's love of sweets now. Thinking about that, she found that she missed the cook, more than she thought she would, since Erica had been teaching her how to cope with her new abilities.

Lex let the small group of people trailing him to think he wasn't aware of them, and led them to a more secluded area. He didn't want to hurt any bystanders, so when they tried to take him down, he jumped up with the agility of one of the human monkeys and wrapped his tail around a ceiling strut as he drew both of his blades. The shots went harmlessly into various walls and the group looked up as one as Lex let go with his tail and dropped down in their midst, then proceeded to slash their arms with both blades before they could recover and try to shoot again. He then laughed as he killed a couple of them before the others took off running. He then took a roundabout way back to the Path, looking out for any other followers, or members of their crew who might be in the same situation he was just in.

Cori was about to head back to the path when two heavyset humans took the seats at either side of him. One glance at the barkeepers eyes made him realise he'd stayed too long and not paid enough attention to the world around him. He was lost in his own world not paying attention and now he was about to pay. Well, he certainly wasn't going to give this up without a fight. As if nothing was wrong he stood up and turned round. Swiftly a fist met his stomach. Cori doubled over and passed out wondering where all that fight had gone...

Lex stopped on his way back to the Path and listened. He could hear some people talking about Cori, calling him 'the pilot', so he scrambled silently up the rest of the corridor he was in and peeked around, seeing two rather large individuals unceremoniously dragging him away from a bar while bragging about the reward they'd get for him, and any other of the Path's crew they could catch.

Well, he couldn't let them just take their pilot away, so he skittered up behind them, withdrew one of his blades and sliced through the crude bonds they'd bound him with before jumping lightly over them until he was standing in front of them. He then laughed merrily.

"Catch me if you can!" He laughed as he bounded away from them, though it was at a fraction of the speed he normally used. He smiled when he heard "Hey, it's the gold dude! Maybe we'll get more for him!" Before the started lumbering after him. He led them away from Cori, hoping their pilot would come to and make it back to the ship while he lost them in the corridors.

The hired thugs or mercenaries or bounty hunters or whatever they were stood little chance against the well-trained pair of Highguard soldiers that were Catherine and Joshua. Within a few minutes all their opponents were dead or injured and a couple minutes after that the Drift security officers arrived. They seemed to have little problem with Cath's version of events leading her to believe that the fight or at least part of it had been recorded and noted on the Drift's security systems. It took a little longer and a small monetary 'incentive' however to convince the security officers to let Cath have one of the injured but alive attackers brought back to the Path for questioning. With the surviving attackers patched up and being hauled away while the dead ones were being cleaned up she turned to Josh. "This feels a little too well planned to me. We should check on the others." She suggested.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dawn discovered that while the vents proved to be a good way to immediately avoid being shot at and had given her a bit of distance between her and her pursuers, the confined space meant that the occasional shot they did take at her came closer to hitting her than she'd like. One shot in particular that came close to her synthetic skin and the sensors underlying it told her that if she got hit by a discharge it would be sufficient to disrupt her systems long enough to cause a reboot which would render her unaware and helplesss for several minutes. However even whilst crawling Dawn had calculated the route she would take through the ducts-the layout kindly provided by her ship-self through the link they shared. As it was when she finally dropped from the vents she was only a short distance away from the docking ring. She looked around warily and headed towards the dock.
Josh nodded as he watched the dead or injured attackers being hauled away, save one, which Cath had paid a hefty sum to acquire. "Yeah, it was quite well-planned and executed, but they weren't trained enough to carry it out." He said. "Let's go check the others." He wasn't too worried about Kaytee, she had made it pretty clear that she wasn't ready to go out into public yet, so she was likely on board the Path. The others, however...
Cori came too wondering where he'd been dropped and abandoned. His head swam from alcohol and concussion. Clearly they hadn't been convinced when he'd blacked out from the first punch to the gut. He couldn't see anyone around and couldn't fathom why he'd been abandoned. Finding a nearby wall to lean on he pushed himself to his feet and waited for the streets to stop changing the way they were going. After a few moments he knew exactly where they were. Turning around he found a narrow ally and some boxes. Carefully he squeezed between them feeling somewhat nauseated by the smell (a dead cat every few weeks to keep people from investigating) and slipped in to part of the drifts ventilation system. It was slow work crawling through in his dizzy state and he hoped that none of his pursuers knew where he was going... and that he could remember the crawl to the hangars of this place... and that security hadn't stepped up since his last 3 visits or so...
Josh took the prisoner they'd acquired and hustled him back to the Path. He didn't know how much information they would get out of him, but he was determined to find out who had hired them to attack their crew. When he made it back, he noted Lex was just coming in from the vent system, so he must have had his own people to deal with. However, the gold-skinned being simply smiled at them and disappeared on board after giving their prisoner a quick glance. He glanced at Cath, who had accompanied them after handing the prisoner off to a Lancer security guard to be taken to the brig. "Guess he didn't have any trouble with his." He said to their captain. He hoped anyone else who was out there had the same kind of fortune.
"I guess not." Catherine responded to Josh as the gold-skinned alien walked by. She was relieved to see Dawn enter the cargo bay a few moments later and hurry over to the airlock. "You got attacked too?" The android asked and Cath nodded. "Unskilled bounty hunters." She confirmed. "We're going to have to go back out though and sweep the drift to find Cori. Hopefully he'll make it back." Just then Path's hologram appeared next to them. "That may not be necessary." She told them. "There are only three Inari lifesigns on the entire Drift and one is heading through the vents towards my position." Cath half-smiled. "Thanks Path." The hologram inclined her head slightly and flickered out. "We wait at the nearest place where the vents end to here and wait until he arrives to provide cover then." She amended her plan.
Josh nodded and headed for the nearest vent to where the Path was located. He hoped that the bounty hunter they managed to keep would tell them who hired them and why. Though if he told them who it probably wouldn't be too hard to figure out why. Right now, getting everyone together and safe was priority. He positioned himself where he could watch the vent and any access to the hangar while they waited for their pilot to show up.
Kaytee watched in surprise as a Lancer walked by her in the corridor leading a handcuffed and injured person. The Lancer told her that he was part of a group of bounty hunters who attacked any of the crew who were out on the drift. As she watched him being led away, she was glad that she had decided to stay aboard, and she went in search of the others to see if they were okay. Lex bounced past her in much the same way that Daze did when he was in a good mood, so she figured he didn't have any problems with whoever probably attacked him.
When she reached the airlock, she peered out cautiously, then saw that Josh and Catherine were watching a vent and wondered what they were waiting for, then she realized that she hadn't seen Cori in her walk through the ship and she began to worry that he might be in trouble.
It hadn't bothered Tommy that Kaytee had declined his invitation to go ashore.  He smiled as she demolished a very sweet dessert then headed to his quarters to get ready.  As he was making his way to the airlock he saw the Lancer escorting his prisoner.  Maybe a  trip outside wasn't such a good idea after all.
He saw Kaytee heading for the airlock and trailed along after her.
"Do you know what's happening?" He asked her.
Cori pulled his way along the last section of the air ducts and hope something friendly was at the other end. He opened the grille and slid gracelessly out recognising some friendly face before collapsing from exhaustion, injury and alcohol related problems.
"I'm not entirely sure." Kaytee said in answer to Tommy's query. "I was just going to find out myself. The Lancer said that a group of bounty hunters attacked everyone who went onto the drift." She saw Catherine and Josh waiting by a nearby vent, so she walked over to them, just in time to see Cori fall out of it, so she got on her bracer and contacted Daze. "Daze, we need you outside."
"There he is." Josh said when Cori fell out of the vent practically at his feet. He heard Kaytee calling for Daze and he knelt beside their pilot, reluctant to move him until their doctor said it was safe. He didn't look too good, but some of that could be from the alcohol that Josh could smell coming from him and it made him wrinkle his nose. As a leader, he didn't like to incapacitate himself with alcohol, though he did enjoy a drink or two now and then. He glanced around to make sure there were no more bounty hunters around while he waited for Daze to show up.
