Clearwire has a service called FreedomPop where they provide 500 MB of data a month at no monthly charge for mobile hotspots, usb modems, or some routers. I picked up one of the USB modems about a month ago for $50 for the device, and signed up for the free service. I have not used it much, but the great thing is that that is perfectly fine, given that I have it for the occasion that I do want to use it, rather than paying per month for something I am only going to use occasionally.

The testing I have done shows that the coverage is not particularly great, but when I do get a signal, the speeds are good (and good enough to use up a lot of the 500MB very quickly if not careful). I have some plans to travel in the next couple months and I will get a better chance to see how well it works.

Has anyone else here heard of it, or use it? If so what do you think?
