I started to watch Black Sails (I noticed that my favorite actress from Secret Circle is in it), but I just haven't had the time.  I'm only up to the beginning of season three of Game of Thrones.

(Ishmael has been having to come up with so many names to fill our ship that I thought I'd help by putting them all here...any additions or changes, Ishmael, just let me know :D. I tried to get all their jobs, too.)

Eagle officers and crew:

Captain Natasha Ward - Captain
Mr. Peabody - Second in Command?
Ms. Fenwick - ?
Mr. Mzambarau - Purser
Mr. Groen - Fourth Mate
Dr. Baraz Tavus  - Ship's Doctor
Lieutenant Devon Mustard - League Marines
Ms. Killick - Ship's Cook

Wardroom: where the ship's officers, except for the captain, eat, as well as relax when not on duty; contains a small library, cards, some board games and so on.

Gun room: a similar facility for senior ratings and middies

I meant to reply to this back when...I looked up Black Sails but it's not on Netflix or Hulu to watch...it's on a paid cable channel out here it seems like, not for free viewing. I wanted to see what it was like!!

It's a Starz original, and there's a free Starz preview this weekend-- at least on my cable system. Not sure if it would be worth it, though, since only season two is available and you wouldn't have time to watch them all.  You'd probably be better off watching Ash vs. Evil Dead instead, since there's only five half hour episodes.

Thanks, Nikki! I was just thinking I should do something like this. :D I'll try to get my scattered notes in order and post a proper ship's complement in the next few days.

In the meantime:

1) Aloysius Peabody is the Bosun (or Boatswain, but pronounced bosun). He supervises the deck crew- assigning tasks, checking completed work and generally ensuring the ship is running efficiently under the command of Captain Ward and the mates. He is not an officer, but a senior rating, basically equivalent to a senior military NCO such as a sergeant-major.

2) Nell Fenwick is a middie, or midship(wo)man, a crew member who is in training to become a licensed officer. (I'll add an explanation of the rank and promotion structure of the League when I post the ship's complement.)
And let us, ciphers to this great accompt,
On your imaginary forces work.

-Wm. Shakespeare Henry V Prologue

Okay, I think I have everything here, let me know if anyone still has questions.

Unless Nikki objects, the crew of Eagle can be considered the same kind of playable NPC's as the guards. (I do have names for the rest of the wardroom officers, and will fill those in as they are introduced. Beyond that, if anyone wants to name a crew member, go ahead.)

SHIP'S COMPLEMENT

Responsible for all aspects of the ship, including: seaworthiness, navigation, shiphandling, cleanliness, safety and security, crew management, combat operations, passenger safety, cargo operations and ship's documentation. All persons aboard are her responsibility and are subject to her authority. She holds a Master's License.)

Lieutenant of Marines: Lt. Devon Mustard (Responsible for ship's security, as well as planning and executing boarding actions and raids ashore. Commands the ship's Marines, under authority of the ship's captain.)

GUNROOM- (Cadets)

Responsible for the ship's rigging (sails, lines etc.), anchors, boats and colors. Supervises the Ropemaker, the Sailmaker and the Bosun's Mate(s). As Senior Rating, he is also responsible for maintaining crew training and discipline.)

Carpenter: Esmerelda Hechinger (Responsible for maintaining and repairing the ship. Supervises the Caulker and the Carpenter's Mate(s).)

Chief Cook: Ms. Annabelle Killick (Responsible for menu planning, meal preparation, and food safety. Supervises the Assistant Cook(s).)

Chief Steward: TBN (Responsible for serving meals and for cleaning officer and passenger quarters, as well as the common areas of the ship. Supervises the Assistant Steward(s).)

Gunner: TBN (Responsible for the ship's weapons and ammunition. Supervises the Armorer, the Gunner's Mate(s) and the Yeoman of the Powder Room.)

Marine Corporal(s):

SHIP'S MESS- (General Crew)

Able Seafarers: Bocas Kane

Marines:

Ordinary Seafarers:

NOTE: In smaller vessels many of these positions will be combined or eliminated.

All sailors start out as Ordinary Seafarers, then after being trained and gaining experience or "sea time", they may be certified as Able Seafarers. From there, they may choose to remain as Able Seafarers, seek a Rating, or seek to become Officers.

A Rating is a specialist in a particular department of the ship, e.g. the deck department (Bosun etc.), gunnery department (Gunner etc.) and so on. Ratings are not officers and are not qualified to command a ship.

Sailors who are seeking to become line officers are known as cadets. (Colloquially they may be referred to as "middies", due to their position midway between the ship's officers and crew) After training and sufficient sea time, they may take the examination for a Mate's License, after which they will be considered qualified to command a navigational watch under the command of a ship's captain. After further training and sea time, they may take the examination for a Master's License, after which they will be considered qualified to command a ship.

Staff officers, i.e. the Surgeon, the Purser and the Lieutenant of Marines, and members of their departments, are considered specialists in their fields and do not qualify for command of a ship.

While all sailors receive basic combat training, Marines are combat specialists who conduct boarding actions and raids ashore. They may be supplemented by the vessel's crew when needed for a particular operation. Marines will assist their fellow crew in shipboard operations when not otherwise engaged in combat or training.

Wow...just wow!! :thumbs-up: This is amazing, Ishmael...thank you! :D And I'm totally fine with the crew being NPCs, although I think you should play the Captain if it's something that needs more than just a simple response or something. Also we'll assume the two guards are around learning to sail along with the rest of the group.

AND I definitely want to keep this ship and crew on hand for use in later games. You did a lot of work, and they're worth using again.

Thank you. :humble: And yes, I'll play the Captain and whoever else is needed to explain something, I just didn't want everyone to think I was the only one permitted to play them.

Also Nikki, if you wouldn't mind putting your moderator hat on and updating the ship's complement?

Second Officer: Mr. Elliott Parno

Third Officer: Ms. Scarlett Zheng

Able Seafarer: Bocas Kane

Thanks: :D

(If I started a separate thread for the ship's complement, would I as the thread starter then be able to modify the post, even if some time has past?)

I will definitely update this evening :D...as for you editing, I'm not sure of, or if there is, a time limit. Check at the bottom of the post you want to edit to see if the button is still active. But I will be happy to do it whenever needed.

It's about 2 hours until you can't edit. Might be a little bit longer for opening post of a thread but there's definitely a limit.

Yay new ship!!! La Chasseur!

I will let Ishmael post his pictures (and perhaps video?) of the ship he shared with me...but here's the deck plans and sleeping arrangements.

La Chasseur-Below-Deck.png

Captain's Cabin = Ishmael/Sophie
Officer's Cabin (next door) = Ishmael/Sophie
Officer's Cabin (across) = Isabella
Teacher Aboard Cabin = Somphit
Guest Cabin = Nemo/(Myka)
Guest Cabin = (Alexander)
Engineer's Cabin = Rex/(Cassie) Rex could take a bunk up front on the way back (although we won't be playing the journey back!)
Front section: John/Abel/Enoch

Amet will have to shelter on deck, I'm afraid! But it can be a covered area and protected. It's hard being 8' tall on a ship!

Oh, I do remember Ishmael suggesting Amet could use the setee/bench part in the dining area but it wouldn't be very private. What's your preference, Balth? I'll leave it up to you :).

Ishmael and Sophie get around.

Maybe we could knock down the wall between two of the guest cabins for Amet.  We can figure out what to do with Alexander once he's rescued.

If he's rescued.

Hey! Those are tiny rooms...no bunk beds ;). Sophie and Ishmael are obviously close but that's not much room. Besides, maybe Sophie wants to be First Officer .

Well, the cabins on either side are taken so knocking down the wall wouldn't help...Rex has one on the way out and Cassie will have that one on the way back...if she's rescued :o ;).

Still, it was a good thought, RJ...I'm open for other suggestions for our 8' giant!!
