Quote

The past comes back to haunt members of the crew during a stopover at a space station, during which Four makes a stunning discovery, while Two and Five learn that some games of chance come with surprising risks. Elsewhere, Six receives some unwanted attention at a local clinic; and One and Three's attempts to sell the weapons in their cargo hold lands them at a dangerous disadvantage.

She's been directing a lot lately, like several episodes of OLYMPUS.

In fact, most of the SANCTUARY/STARGATE usual directors have had a hand at directing OLYMPUS.

^ Oh, I'm not familiar with that one.  Is it good?  (I get all my cable shows on the internet these days, and sometimes I miss stuff.  ;) )

Anyway, I haven't peeked at the guest list, but I think it would be very appropriate for David Hewlett to show up in an episode directed by Amanda Tapping!  :hehe:

I wonder what the space station will look like.  It would be nice if they could spice up the aesthetics on one of these shows just a little bit.

This show just keeps getting better. Lots to love in this episode.

The paring of One and Three worked well. In the first episode I thought Three would be the character that would annoy me the most but he's grown on me. I wanted to punch him at the end of the episode when he blackmailed One but he's not the annoying character I feared I was. Their scenes were pretty funny and informative. We learned that the real Jace wasn't part of the Raza's crew. He was contracted for the mining job. Good to know.

One could be working for Hrothgar, or another unidentified group. Jace was pretty sure One wasn't a clone because they die after 72 hours but I still think that could be a possibility. I don't think the episode would have featured such a lengthy examination of the cloning process if it wasn't going to tie into the plot somehow. One may not be a clone, but someone else might.

I get why One doesn't want to tell the crew the truth about himself, but it makes more sense to do it now than later. Jace isn't going to stop trying to hunt him down. Besides, it's not worth having to agree with Three all the time.

So Four is the son to an emperor and he assassinated dear old dad, which in turn might spark a war between two interstellar kingdoms.

Two and Five certainly got into a lot of trouble. Two really went to town on those casino men. I thought she would just knock them out but she straight up murdered them. It was a useful reminder that these are not nice people. They may be nicer without their memories but they are still wanted felons.

I get that Six had to go to a doctor but did no one think that his identity would be revealed by that? True, Six thought he would just get a cream and not a skin graft but still.

Some decent world building here. There's apparently a large governmental body called the Galactic Authority but they're not the only game in town. The giant multi-corps also seem to have a lot of power as well if they're sending destroyers to protect ships traveling in the region where war is likely to break out.

Can we please name the android? Pretty please?

This has nothing to do with this episode but I wonder if aliens do exist in this universe. It's something I've been curious about since the miners speculated the Raza were aliens. Was that just fear coming through or do aliens actually exist?

I do wonder what direction the show is going to take. So far the first two episodes were devoted to setting up the characters and the situation and showing how they handle being without memories. The third episode was a bottle episode that took a closer look at the crew and their interactions while setting up the mystery of the dead teenager. This episode saw them at the space station refueling and set up a few more potential plotlines. However, what are the crew going to do? They're still wanted. They have no memories and no money. Are they going to try and take jobs now?

I'm really surprised at how much I'm liking this show. It's engaging with interesting characters and so far the slow world building has me interested and wanting to know more.

I grinned wheen I saw that red stripe down the sides of Three's trousers; someone in costuming is clearly a Star Wars fan.

I'm also curious as to whether or not there are aliens around. If there are, I admire the show's restraint in not putting them front and centre.

Or maybe the clone thing was a red herring to mess with the audience. Although I suspect the important part is the part about the memory/personality copying and transfer technology. That seems pretty directly relevant to our gang's situation.

I think the others will get suspicious pretty quickly if One starts siding with Three.

Maybe they forgot about DNA?

It looks like a humans-only universe to me. No doubt some people in a humans-only interstellar setting would believe in aliens, just as some people here on Earth today believe there are UFOs and lizard people among us. But that doesn't mean they exist.

I loved a ton of things in this episode, but there were two things that I thought didn't quite work.  I'll start with those things, and then I'll get to the good stuff.  :)

Why make a point of telling everyone to remember their comms, if they are not going to use them?!?  There were so many time they should have used the comms!  One and Three should have told the others "We're heading to a back-alley deal, down corridor ___.  If we don't check in in 20 minutes there's a problem."   Or at least shouted "help!" on the comms when they saw the grenade!

And Six, he ran all the way back to the ship, and then told them there was a problem!  As soon as he saw that he had been flagged by the computer, he should have said "Hey guys, we've got a problem, everybody get back to the ship!"

My other problem, is that the android saw Other Jace leaving with the weapons, but when the rest were wondering what happened to Three and One, she didn't mention it at all.  For that matter, she should have been able to tell that it wasn't him, especially if one of them was surgically altered and is not a clone.  She can detect all kinds of bio-signs, even pheromones, surely she could tell them apart!  (I just checked, she even noticed that his hair was different.)

Ok, that's enough complaining, because I really love this show!  :D

---

I loved the infomercials while Six was waiting at the clinic!  That was a really cool way to drop some world-building exposition at us!

So the temp clones with memory transfer is very interesting.  So that company's patented cloning process is designed to degrade after three days.  But who's to say the technology couldn't be adapted to last longer?  Maybe the technology was stolen?

But yes, clearly the most important part of that is the existence of memory transfer technology.  And I suppose they could all be clones that didn't get their full memory downloads, but they certainly got skills!  :oh:

In general though, the whole idea of a memory transfer vacation sounds ripe for problems.  You don't really go, you just get the memories dumped in your head?  How do you know it really happened?  Total Recall anyone?!? :o

And there was another ad I noticed, about android technology.  It said that duplicating a real person was illegal, and that all androids must have an identifying tattoo.  Which means they could easily encounter an unmarked android duplicate of someone.  It would just have been illegally made!

I had to laugh at Six being fascinated by the advert, while the rest of the people there couldn't care less!  :howling:  They've seen those infomercials a thousand times, they were trying to ignore it!    Also, the products advertised are clearly meant for the richest of customers, none of whom are likely to be sitting in that waiting room in some remote space-station.  (And if one did show up there, surely they would pay to skip the wait.)  So the advertising was a bit misdirected, but isn't that the way with infomercials?  Always playing where no-one wants to see them?

And there's always a catch with infomercials too, the perks are exaggerated, or the flaws aren't mentioned.   I wonder what the real story is for some of these technologies?  ;)

Another possibility is that someone tried to assassinate the whole royal family, and Four managed to escape (killing many of his attackers in the process).  Then whoever did that pinned it all on him, because he got away.

Starting a war between two kingdoms and destabilizing a region seems like a perfect chance for a mining company to seize a bit of key territory, don't you think?

---

One and Three had lots of funny moments.  Particularly this one:

Quote

One: Look, we've got to get out of here before he comes back and kills us.
Three: He's not gonna kill us.  He's gonna sell our stuff, and he's gonna high-tail it out a here.
One: Oh, really!?!  Is that what you would do if you were him?
Three:  ......  What's your plan?

And I loved Three's oh crap expression there!

One more interesting ad I noticed in the clinic.

When Six gets up to ask how much longer it will be, a voiceover can be heard.  These are the bits I could hear, with dots where the voice was obscured:

Quote

If you're tired of boring, ..., or even unpleasant dreams, new soniwave ...
never suffer through a [sleepless?] night again...
featuring over one hundred pre-programed dream scenarios, the new soniwave turns an ordinary night's sleep into a night of top notch entertainment.

Intriguing, no?

So I'm guessing, if I haven't guessed this before, that they are really all clones of the bad people, but something went awry.  They will ultimately end up oppositing their clone donors. An equal and opposite force.

Well, the space station was at least more visually interesting than the ship, although it still looked like the 80s.  And attitudes about sex seem to come from the 50s.  There's a lot of retro stuff going on here-- the tied-together-in-chairs routine was like something out of a 30s detective movie.

The characters and their interactions are continuing to improve-- I think I can even keep the numbers straight now.  One and three make an amusing team, almost like G'Kar and Londo.  Four's backstory is becoming increasingly intriguing. Five seems to be a bit freaked out by Two now, although she really should be freaked out by all of them at this point.

The commercials in the doctor's office do seem to provide some clues as to what's going on. The clone method of space travel could explain a lot.  Our crew may be "travel clones" who never got the full memory download.  But if that's the case, then why didn't Jace know about his clone?

And what lies in the vault?
