Microsoft is announcing a big new feature for Xbox owners today: cross-network play. It's something the software giant has hinted at for years, and now it seems the reality of PS4, Xbox One, and PC players playing the same game together might finally happen. Developers building games for Xbox One and Windows 10 will be able to support the feature, but it will require Sony and others to "participate" in order for games to be played across Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
"PlayStation has been supporting cross-platform play between PC on several software titles starting with Final Fantasy 11 on PS2 and PC back in 2002," notes a statement from Sony to GameSpot. "We would be happy to have the conversation with any publishers or developers who are interested in cross platform play."
If this does become a routine feature that will be pretty awesome. I own a PS4 but my two best friends bought Xbox Ones. If both consoles allowed cross-platform play and games supported it then we could all game together which would be awesome, especially since we've all moved away from each other.
