I've been playing with Levitation Shots lately. Here's just one article with good examples, but I'd suggest doing a whole Google search to see a broader array of magical shots.

Maybe I'm just enchanted because I've been working with them and seeing how well many of these are executed, but I hope you give it a try. Even rudimentary efforts are pretty striking. You don't need a fancy camera, a tripod or even Photoshop (I made a pretty good fool-the-eye example with a Kodak Instamatic, a cinderblock and duct tape, back in the day -- but I had a darkroom and enlarger, which almost no amateur has anymore), butPhotoshop, Corel Draw (free for older versions, ask me how), GIMP (free, open source) etc. make it easy. I've used them all.

It's nice to see that "trick" photography is alive and well, despite CGI.
