Just what the title says. A place to discuss upcoming video games that you might be interested in.

This Spider-man game looks awesome. I have been so pumped for this game for a long time. I won't be able to get it (or any of these games) any time soon but it is definitely a buy for me.

As a Gears of War fan I've been waiting for this one. For the most part I like what I've seen. My only problem is the redesign of JD and Del. They are both more musclebound and simply larger than they were in the first game. JD doesn't even truly look the same as the character from 4. That aside, the game looks good. It will be the first time in franchise history that a female will be the main playable character and that has caused an uproar with some fans but I think it is about time.

I was so pumped when I saw this because I had no idea this was even happening. I loved the original Resident Evil 2 back in the day and this looks like it will be a fantastic update. I am curious as to how they will handle Leon and Claire. In the original game you played all the way through as one of the characters and then you played through again as the other character. You were essentially playing the same game twice but some of what you did in the first play through affected what happened in the second play through. I doubt they will do that here but I will be interested to see if there is a even split between the time you play as the characters or if one is favored over the others.

It is Kingdom Hearts III. 'Nuff said.

Spiderman is on my list, too.  I might wait and put it on my Christmas list, since I do have a lot of other new stuff coming up, but I'm definitely going to give it a shot.   I have a pretty good track record for loving most Playstation exclusives that I've tried.

And yeah, KHIII is certainly a biggie.

For others, my biggest ones right now (that have release dates) are probably:

Dragon Quest XI
he DQ games are huge comfort food sort of series.  You know pretty much what you're going to get going in, just with more visual polish than the last time.  My only complaint about DQ8 (the last standalone game that came out on a "real" console) was that you had a fixed group of four party members.  DQ11 looks like it's brought back a more normal party system with six characters plus the hero to choose from, so I'm looking forward to getting to "know" them all. :)

Shadow of the Tomb Raider
The Naughty-Dog-esque mix of story/action/stealth/puzzle-solving gameplay in these new Tomb Raider games is totally my jam.

Valkyria Chronicles 4
Love that they seem to be going back to the straightforward strategy-rpg elements that made Valkyria Chronicles 1 great.  (I really love seeing this return for JRPG's to real consoles, after that gap where it seemed like the Japanese companies were relegating them all to handheld.  And I hope it stays this way.  I worry that the next step will be a massive shift to all of them going directly to the Switch.)

Mutant Year Zero
X-Com style of turned-based squad strategy, but with a quirky take on a post-apocalyptic setting.  I'm in.  :)

I had forgotten about Shadow of the Tomb Raider. That is one I am excited for.

Mutant Year Zero looks fun and quirky. It actually reminded me about this game:

It came out last month. The reviews have been good so it will also go on my have to buy it eventually list.

I’m looking forward to the upcoming new 6x6 winter map for PUBG PC and PUBG mobile (regular and emulator versions) to check out .
I’ve seen a leaked beta version leaked to the test servers and it looks EPIC!   Can’t wait till it gets released to the live update

That sounds cool. I've never played PUBG. It is on my list of games to try but I just never seem to get around to it.

Right now I'm looking forward to the re-mastered version of Assassin's Creed III. It is the only AC game (aside from the current one I am playing, Revelations) that I have never actually finished. Since I've started the series over again I was planning on playing the Xbox 360 version but now I will just wait for for this new version to come out. It sounds like Ubisoft is really taking their time with it to make the game as great as possible, even tweaking the game play. I hope they change the lock picking. It has been ages since a game mechanic has caused so much rage in me but that lock picking mechanic in AC:III was horrible.

Some takeaways from E3...

1.  BIGGEST WIN:  The trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a big surprise to me.  So much Star Wars stuff has been online-gameplay-driven that I've mostly ignored anything for the franchise.  According to IGN, this one is a "narrative-focused single-player" experience.  If that's really true, this is definitely top of my excitement list.  It looks like a lot of fun, and hits those "story" and "character" elements I've been craving lately.  ( Release:  11/25/2019  )

2.  BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT:  Square Enix's Avengers game.  After watching the trailer, I was so pumped to play this game.  I was picturing something like the Spider-man game, but with the whole Avengers team, and thought this would be a great opportunity to get some Captain America & Iron Man fixes, now that we can't expect them to be regular fixtures in the MCU anymore.  Then I saw the description of it as a "service" game like Destiny or Anthem, and I honestly felt like I'd been sucker-punched.  Running around on levels as Iron Man or Black Widow is completely pointless if there's not a genuine *narrative* driving it (and running from Point A to Point B while shooting baddies with your best friend "RandomDude14224" controlling the Hulk is NOT actually a narrative.  Ugh, ugh, ugh.

3.  PLEASANT SURPRISE:  Obsidian's The Outer Worlds is coming out this year (Release:  10/25/2019).  Since I think we just found out the game existed at all early this year, I figured we'd have to wait until 2020 for it, but here it is.  I still wish we could've gotten a new Fallout from Obsidian, but I'm intrigued to see what they'll do with a different IP, too.  It's certainly more colorful than any Fallout game has ever been.  :)

4.  Other Stuff:
  • One of my favorite JRPG's of recent years has been the Trails of Cold Steel series, and I've been waiting anxiously for the third game to get over here.  It finally has a release date for September of this year.  Yay!
  • Age of Empires II Definitive Edition coming out this fall.  I enjoyed the AOE1 definitive edition, but AOE2 was where the franchise really hit its stride in terms of some basic quality-of-life elements that made the RTS gameplay workable.  I'm looking forward to revisiting the series with this.
  • Wasteland 3 got a new trailer - it's good to know it's still in play.  They've been radio-silent for a long time.
  • Baldur's Gate 3 from the folks who made the Divinity: Original Sin games should be AMAZING.
  • New Cyberpunk 2077 trailer gives a slightly better handle on what the story is about compared to previous footage.  Looking good, but still pretty far out to get too excited about it.
  • Deathloop only has a cinematic trailer, but a game with a timeloop structure sounds intriguing. With how much I love Dishonored, anything Arkane does is at least worthy of keeping an eye on it.  It's kinda cool that both protagonists are black without it being set somewhere that that's a requirement.  Nice diversity showing there.
