Good guy with a gun killed by police.

NPR's headline

Quote

Police Fatally Shoot Black Security Guard Who Detained Shooting Suspect

Not only was Jemel Roberson a security guard, he aspired to be a police officer.

He wasn't a thug, he had no troubled past, he was a musician and he was active in Church.

Jemel Roberson was a security guard at a bar. A shooting broke out. He prevented the situation by escalating to worse. He apprehended and secured the alleged shooter. Roberson held the alleged assailant to the ground with a knee to the assailant's back. Roberson was wearing his security guard uniform, which included a hat emblazoned with the word "security" on it.

A cop coming on scene shot Jemel Roberson, he was declared dead at the hospital.

As Vox says, I guess black men aren't allow to be the good guy with a gun.

NPR's headline today: Officer Gave Security Guard 'Multiple Verbal Commands' to Drop Gun, Police Now Say.

They also claim he wasn't in a security guard uniform.
I have trouble (with good reason) believing a single thing the cops are saying here. It contradicts witness's statements to the media.

Jakia Woods lives in a house adjacent to Manny's parking lot. She said officers already on the scene had asked Roberson to release the suspect, and Roberson was complying, when another officer came through the bar's back door.

"Before [Roberson] could get up off of him, the officer comes flying out this door gun up," Woods said Tuesday afternoon while standing on her porch. "He says, 'Get on the ground,' and before he says 'ground,' he fires the first shot."
