I'll be writing the final novella in the series, dealing with Ferenginar. The others include Cardassia by Una McCormack, Andor by Heather Jarman, Bajor by J. Noah Kym, Trill by Michael A. Martin & Andy Mangels, and the Dominion by David R. George III.

Did the editor match the writer with the world in these novellas, or were you all able to pick/pitch, which planet you wanted to write about?
Hey? ExIsle has regenerated too!

It was a combination. In my case, I had some ideas of stuff to do with the Ferengi going back to when I was writing Demons of Air and Darkness, so I petitioned Marco to do Ferenginar when he decided to do this as the next thing after Unity. And the choice of Heather Jarman for Andor was more or less self-evident after all the work she did developing Andorian biology and culture in This Gray Spirit.
As for the others, it varied.

May I ask, was there any particular motive for pairing up the novellas that appeared in each volume? Do they share a similar theme or something? Or was it just sort of eclectic?

A variety of considerations went into it. Part of what Marco Palmieri, the editor, wanted to do was avoid obvious pairings (which is why Bajor and Cardassia are separate, e.g.). Some of it was dictated by schedules (DRG3 and I needed the most time to get ours done due to other projects, which is one reason why the Dominion and Ferenginar are last).
And in at least two cases, the cast representatives of the worlds in each book are linked -- Dax and Sisko for Trill and Bajor, Odo and Quark for the Dominion and Ferenginar.
They're all linked by two things: they're all connected to DS9 and they're all in some kind of turmoil. The show left us with Cardassia and the Dominion dealing with the aftermath of the war and Ferenginar undergoing major socio-economic changes under the rule of Grand Nagus Rom. The various post-finale novels have shown us that Andor is undergoing major bio-sociological changes (mostly seen in This Gray Spirit) and Trill has some ugly sh*t goin' down (mostly seen in Unity). As for Bajor, they also had a major change in Unity.

This is nearly a year after that. For the reasons for his move, see the novels Mission Gamma: Lesser Evil and Unity. For a tale of Professor O'Brien on Earth, see my eBook S.C.E. #29: Aftermath.

What Christopher said. Keep in mind that Worlds of DS9 takes place after about a dozen stories set after "What You Leave Behind":
A Stitch in Time by Andrew J. Robinson
The Left Hand of Destiny Books 1-2 by J.G. Hertzler & Jeffrey Lang
Avatar Books 1-2 by S.D. Perry
Section 31: Abyss by David Weddle & Jeffrey Lang
Gateways: Demons of Air and Darkness by Keith R.A. DeCandido
"Horn and Ivory" by Keith R.A. DeCandido (in Gateways: What Lay Beyond)
Mission: Gamma Book 1: Twilight by David R. George III
Mission: Gamma Book 2: This Gray Spirit by Heather Jarman
Mission: Gamma Book 3: Cathedral by Michael A. Martin & Andy Mangels
Mission: Gamma Book 4: Lesser Evil by Robert Simpson
Rising Son by S.D. Perry
Unity by S.D. Perry
The six WoDS9 tales take place after Unity.

No, one didn't, but Shar is indeed a major character in the post-finale novels, and Enterprise has actually helped with its giving Andorians prominence, so there's even more interest in the species.
Besides, most people would look at that book and the first thing they'd notice is Cardassia and Garak, so I doubt there'll be too much of an associational issue anyhow.
And if they are curious, they can pick up the book, which is what you want potential readers to do in any case....
