OK. There's been a bit of confusion since we decided to go with "It's Your Turn" for the Chess Tournament. I'll outline the issues as best as I understand them.

1. Everyone signed up with the expectation to play on Ex Isle algebraic, so the switch is unfair.

2. The switch was made to make it easier and faster to play.

3. Its Your Turn relies on each player creating an account for free.

4. The rules at Its Your Turn are fairly simple - but they contradict the rules of the Tournament in one instance (giving players 3 days to make a move, the tournament had only 1 day.)

5. Playing at Its Your Turn makes it an "Outside" event, and doesn't allow Ex Islers to look in.

6. Algebraic notation is slow, and requires for everyone to set up a board at home to keep track of things.

7. Currently we have agreed that for each game, the players can decide how to play - on Its Your Turn or on Ex Isle. (Who wins if they can't agree?)

That's all the facts I think... the question is - how do you want to proceed? Are you already playing? (Tourney was to start today).

As I see it - we can do a few things. Leave as is (Point #7), play both concurrently (move on Its Your Move, type move in a separate thread), or choose a method.

What say you all? Please vote AND comment...

Well I haven't voted... cause I dunno what one to go for... I don't mind either one... and it would be nice to for other ppl to be able to follow the games on the board... so maybe the algebraic thingy (still not sure I understand it tho!) possibly with screen caps for those of use who arn't to sure about it (just as a backup for my stupidity really ;) ) however I'll go with whatever ppl or whoever I'm playing against what to do...

hmm... have I actually said anything worth saying??? *looks* Umm... no! :p

Generally just not missed

My proposal:

It is up to each pair playing to decide how to play.

However: in the interests of keeping things recorded, if someone uses an online venue that automatically records the moves, one person from that game must post this series of moves in the thread, for record keeping.
Stay hungry.

Stay foolish.

Yeah - but at least you are saying something! :)

Everyone... besides voting - what are your thoughts on the issue of Ex Islers being able to watch the tournament?

It's Your Turn. The only issue I consider a big problem is openness, and we can post screencaps every ten moves or so. I'm sure there's a way to convert the move log into algebraic notation too.

The algebraiac notation will be cumberson, confusing, and bound to lead to misunderstandings. I really don't like it. It will also take a lot longer. For instance, I just made a move against Dromy from the library at school. That's something I couldn't do if I had to to wait until I got home, which won't be for another nine hours or so...

I have a board set up. I'm not sure I have it set up right, though. It has been a long time. :p :D

I'll still go for the original thing. I figure I'll be elimnated early and my ordeal will be over soon. :p :D

We could always post a link to our games on the board here... since the site does allow others to view your game

Personally I'd rather use Its Your Turn just because it makes life easier for me... but I'll do either way.. I just need to learn the algerbraic way ;)

I like Jid's idea of just posting the moves from an online venue on EI, if one is used.

BTW, here's the log IYM generates:

2. d4 Nf6

4. Bxg5 b6

6. Bxf6 exf6

8. Nh3

Which, btw, is algebraic notation! LOL!

So - if that can be made a bit easier to read? Rov - where can we post? I'm thinking each game should have its own thread, still...

I think it makes more sense to use the It's Your Turn site. However, since I'll probably set up the game on my mom's Chessmaster program if we use the notation system, and make the moves that way, it's no big deal to me.

One thing I would point out, though, is that some method of using screencaps and/or viewing It's Your Move games would actually make it easier for Ex Islers to follow the tournamnet, not harder... I doubt casually interested viewers are going to take the time to set up boards and follow our games from the notation...

John-- *Excellent* point about being easier to follow.

HM-- Yeah, I think we could still go for a temp forum, if needbe..

Good point, John... I can do screen caps, but they come out icky, like the tournament brackets did... :( Anyone else want to volunteer? Or can everyone do screen caps? And I like Jid's idea too - choice of players. But how do we work it out if they don't agree?

Well, actually, if games are publicly veiwable, we don't need screencaps; anybody interested can just go look it up and follow it move by move.

^Actually I'm fairly sure people without accounts at 'it's you turn' can't view the games...

If you sign up you can, but without being logged in I haven't found a way to view 'em

True Dromy, but anybody can get an account. Also, there doesn't appear to be any email verification, so you can use fakeaddy@hotmail.com or whatever. :).

Rov - the point isn't to make it hard for people to watch the tournament. :)

As easy as possible I say. (And that's assuming, of course, someone wants to watch!)

Also - are any of the games currently being played? Rov & Dromy are playing, but that's not a tournament match.

And what if they don't want to? This is an Ex Isle tournament, not an ItsYourTurn.com tournament, and I don't like the idea of telling Ex Islers that they have to join some other site in order to participate in our site's tournament.

Well, I, for one, wouldn't mind copying the notation. Doing the screenshots would be quite a bit more work.; a 60 move game would be a lot of tedious capping. Compare that amount of labour to taking about a minute to create an account. It seems to be asking an awful lot of work of the players.

I guess we can copy the notation, so tohers can observe. But asking everybody else to do a lot more work to even participate just because a couple of people don't want to doesn't seem fair to me...

HM-- John and I just started a game.
