For those of you into video games, I'm sure you already well know that the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 4 released for the GameCube earlier this year has now made its way to the PlayStation 2. The question, however, is how did the port fair with its move to the PS2? Game play seems to be pretty much the same, so that's great news, and this is all that really counts, anyway. But for those who do care about graphic, then the PS2 version may not fair so well with those consumers. I hope this isn't the case, as the game play rocks and graphics really shouldn't matter, but let's face it, they do matter to a lot of today's gamers. With that said, RE4 on the PS2 is a pretty game, but the GC version is defiantly prettier. The GC's hardware is capable of pumping out tons of textures; therefore, the GC version is calked full of minor yet realistic details that bring the environment to life. The PS2 isn't capable of pumping out textures on this scale, so details here and there had to be cut, and lighting scaled back to keep the game play intact. How much? This much:

Notice the scaled back lighting in the PS2 version of the game. More so, take a look at these:

Notice that the PS2 version has fewer trees and what trees that are there have been scaled down in detail.

Still, the PS2 version isn't an ugly game by any means, but I think the comparison is interesting. What do you guys think?

I'm an Xbox fan myself
Hatred ever kills, love never dies such is the vast difference between the two. What is obtained by love is retained for all time. What is obtained by hatred proves a burden in reality for it increases hatred.

Well, it has some pretty good games, and though the first model XBoxs had hardware issues, at least Microsoft tried to address them.

The GC beats down the PS2 completely, in fact the XBOX as well for best looking games.

Too bad Nintendo keeps making Mario Party games instead of bringing out new games (ie - Zelda - The Twilight Princess).

/owns both an XBOX and GC.

RE 4 is an awesome game (Gamecube version here.) lol I've learnt the wisdom of running like hell for the nearest loading screen between zones!

Yes, the GC has nice graphics, but there is a reason its success is limited, and game sales much fewer than the other major two systems. The machine is largely aimed at a youthful Asian demographic, thus zillions of mind-numbing Japanese puzzle-games, and nothing much more.

In short, it's an unwieldy looking box, that makes a great doorstop, or weapon when arguing with your missus.

Actually, Nintendo has proven that the "out of the box" games appeal very much to a young and older crowd in Japan. Most of the "out of the box" type of games have scored big in older demographics in Japan.
