The longest-running science fiction series: decadent, degenerate and rotten to the core. Power-mad conspirators, Daleks, Sontarans... Cybermen! They're still in the nursery compared to us. Forty-three years of absolute fandom. That's what it takes to be really critical.

"Don't mistake a few fans bitching on the Internet for any kind of trend." - Keith R.A. DeCandido

Okay the latest info I've managed to squeeze out of my sources:

The editing is going well and from what I've heard the cast is looking fantastic! Having the priorities that I do, I of course asked how James' performance was and was told he (as always) gave 150% and just knocks it out of the park. Beyond the performance, he spends a portion of the movie in his boxers - ladies, prepare to THUD! Oh, and supposedly James gets a good action sequence or two (and we know how well he can kick butt!)

I also heard that Tony Todd gives an incredible intense performance every time he's onscreen as well. I CAN'T WAIT to see the two of them together onscreen!!! :Thud:

I don't get the sense that any decisions can/will be made about theatrical release until the edit is done or closer to done, BUT they still absolute WANT a theatrical release.

Other news is that they're hoping to get a website up about the film in February or March, with some more pics and stuff from the film!

If/when I find out more, I'll post! But feel free to pass this info on wherever you feel folks might be interested. :)

Thanks for the info. Word spreads around the internet about James Marsters like wildfire, and it got rather hard to get into this site for a bit there.

YAY, sounds great! Keep us up to date.

Here's a few messages James left on his Official site that mention the movie:

11-02-05
"Hey everybody - I had a great time in London. As usual, the London audiences were great. Steve tells me that the feedback has been great and that I turned some of you on to Shakespeare for the first time. Special thanks to my co-star Cheryl Puente for the excellent job she did as Lady Macbeth. As many of you may have already heard, I started today on the feature film “Shadow Puppets.” It is a great script and I really like the director. I’ll keep you all posted as it goes along." James

11-23-05
"Hey everybody – I just wanted to wish all my American fans a very happy Thanksgiving. I know that I have lots to be thankful for and hope you all do too. As we head into the end of the year I want to wish everyone a rockin’ holiday season. I know that I’m going to catch up on lots of missed sleep and spend time with the kids and get ready to kick ass again in 2006. Steve’s looking ahead at possible convention and concert dates and will keep everyone posted, but for now it’s really busy on the acting front. Filming “Shadow Puppets” went really well. I have a good feeling about it. Everyone was great to work with. I wrecked my neck on the last day of filming, but that comes with the territory. Be well." James

Not sure if I should report this as I have no idea how accurate the source is...but Porche from MTS says that post-production of Shadow Puppets will not be complete until May at which time the producers will be looking for a limited theatrical release/film festival circuits.

Hope it will also go to DVD someday for all of us in areas where we won't be able to see it.

Ooh, James did Macbeth, did he? Intense, driven, tortured, guilty, deeply in love with his crazy, ambitious wife? Sounds right up his alley. :p I would have loved to have seen him. Everybody else always seems to want to do Hamlet (and oy, I get tired of poor, whiny Hamlet). Leave it to James to do the Scottish play.

He produced his own one day/two performances of excerpts from "MacBeth" with him writing explanatory bits to link the scenes together. It was at The Mermaid Theater and the only characters were MacBeth and Lady MacBeth. He has a DVD called "Words and Music" for sale on his Official site which contains his MacBeth performance and a concert of his songs that he performed directly following the show. It is his dream (which he is currently at work on) to make a movie version of MacBeth. If the passion and intensity of the performance I saw in London is anything to go by,this will be a spine-tingling production. The very air was electric and I would not have been at all surprized if the stage had caught fire and burned. He was incredible.

The DVD he sells, while really good and a fine souvenir,is just shot with a single,non-moving camera so there are no close ups or zooming in and out. You just get the same impression you would get from having a seat in the theater.

And I don't think you'll ever see James as "Hamlet". Here's something he had to say about it at a Con I attended a few years back:

You made the comment that "Hamlet" should be played by an 18 year old. Is that an 18 year old in Elizabethan England or an 18 year old today?

(7-03 Tampa) I think that what the play is about for me is someone trying to bridge adolescence. Someone who starts as a child and ends as a man...and that's...I don't think it is a tragedy. Technically, he dies so it's a tragedy, but he achieves manhood before he dies, so I don't count it a tragedy. "Hamlet" is Joss' favorite play and it's not surprising to me that "Buffy" is very close to "Hamlet" thematically. It's just all about that period in your life when you realize the world is absolutely unfair and screwed. And how do you remain active as a human being in the face of that? How do you not give up? And that, to a large extent, is what the "to be or not to be" speech is about. So, therefore, you know...there are so many complaints about the character of "Hamlet", he's tied to his mother's apron strings, he's indecisive, all that stuff...but if it's an 18 year old coming up to the audience and going "You know what? I've been thinking about this. Life is kind of useless, isn't it? Everybody lies to each other, everybody betrays each other and I'm just kind of wondering why I get up in the morning". But, from a 30 or 40 year old actor you're like "You should have figured that out by now!" That's why, Branagh's "Hamlet": What are you doing, man? Direct it...and find a teenager and do it for real! The problem being...we're not as good at "Shakespeare" anymore. Actors are not competent with the language until they are 35 or 40 to really do justice to the language. So I can understand director's getting tempted to cast that older actor...but really, I don't think the theme will ever come through until you see it done by a younger person. I think a lot of "Shakespeare" is like that. They are meant to be younger people and we always cast older actors so it never really works.

Hope they put the new site with trailer and new pictures for "Shadow Puppets" up soon. Peeps are starting to talk more about the movie over at the "Shadow Puppets" site at IMBD. There is also a complete cast list up now.

And just FYI:
Latest news on the long awaited "Spike" movie...and it seems pretty reliable. Today Joss Whedon was interviewed on BBC Radio Five Live. This is what he said:

Joss: "Right now I've been concentrating on trying to do a movie with Spike. A DVD Movie with Spike. And we're trying to see if that's financially feasible.

from Tony Todd's Official webpage:

Tony Todd talking about "Shadow Puppets"

I really like the film. James Marsters and I became good friends. Rest of the cast is extremely flexible. It was fun. One the most extended, cast and crew, final applause, I've ever had. We had a strange two days, at "Loma Vista", a deserted insane asylum just off the Boyle st. Bridge. six accidents in 48 hours, from heart plapatations, scratched cornea's, Electrician being shocked, whiplash, and our script supervisor fell and broke her foot. But overall everyone was committed, or should've been."

Aww,I knew James and Tony would bond...2 old theater rats like that.

The RFD date is May. Which just means they will be ready to start looking for a distribution deal then. It could take any amount of time after that to set up. Personally I don't think we'll be seeing this till late summer, early fall. But that's a guess. Writergroupie has promised to touch base with the producers when she is done with some editting that she needs to do now. She said I should remind her next weekend...so maybe she will be able to get some new info for us then. Fingers crossed. :)
