The editing is going well and from what I've heard the cast is looking fantastic! Having the priorities that I do, I of course asked how James' performance was and was told he (as always) gave 150% and just knocks it out of the park. Beyond the performance, he spends a portion of the movie in his boxers - ladies, prepare to THUD!
I also heard that Tony Todd gives an incredible intense performance every time he's onscreen as well. I CAN'T WAIT to see the two of them together onscreen!!!
I don't get the sense that any decisions can/will be made about theatrical release until the edit is done or closer to done, BUT they still absolute WANT a theatrical release.
Other news is that they're hoping to get a website up about the film in February or March, with some more pics and stuff from the film!
If/when I find out more, I'll post! But feel free to pass this info on wherever you feel folks might be interested.

But... but... if it's not magic and sparkly how can I use it to reshape the universe? Without the magic sparklies, it's like... just a metaphor.

"Hey everybody - I had a great time in London. As usual, the London audiences were great. Steve tells me that the feedback has been great and that I turned some of you on to Shakespeare for the first time. Special thanks to my co-star Cheryl Puente for the excellent job she did as Lady Macbeth. As many of you may have already heard, I started today on the feature film “Shadow Puppets.” It is a great script and I really like the director. I’ll keep you all posted as it goes along." James

"Hey everybody – I just wanted to wish all my American fans a very happy Thanksgiving. I know that I have lots to be thankful for and hope you all do too. As we head into the end of the year I want to wish everyone a rockin’ holiday season. I know that I’m going to catch up on lots of missed sleep and spend time with the kids and get ready to kick ass again in 2006. Steve’s looking ahead at possible convention and concert dates and will keep everyone posted, but for now it’s really busy on the acting front. Filming “Shadow Puppets” went really well. I have a good feeling about it. Everyone was great to work with. I wrecked my neck on the last day of filming, but that comes with the territory. Be well." James

Hope it will also go to DVD someday for all of us in areas where we won't be able to see it.

The DVD he sells, while really good and a fine souvenir,is just shot with a single,non-moving camera so there are no close ups or zooming in and out. You just get the same impression you would get from having a seat in the theater.

You made the comment that "Hamlet" should be played by an 18 year old. Is that an 18 year old in Elizabethan England or an 18 year old today?
(7-03 Tampa) I think that what the play is about for me is someone trying to bridge adolescence. Someone who starts as a child and ends as a man...and that's...I don't think it is a tragedy. Technically, he dies so it's a tragedy, but he achieves manhood before he dies, so I don't count it a tragedy. "Hamlet" is Joss' favorite play and it's not surprising to me that "Buffy" is very close to "Hamlet" thematically. It's just all about that period in your life when you realize the world is absolutely unfair and screwed. And how do you remain active as a human being in the face of that? How do you not give up? And that, to a large extent, is what the "to be or not to be" speech is about. So, therefore, you know...there are so many complaints about the character of "Hamlet", he's tied to his mother's apron strings, he's indecisive, all that stuff...but if it's an 18 year old coming up to the audience and going "You know what? I've been thinking about this. Life is kind of useless, isn't it? Everybody lies to each other, everybody betrays each other and I'm just kind of wondering why I get up in the morning". But, from a 30 or 40 year old actor you're like "You should have figured that out by now!" That's why, Branagh's "Hamlet": What are you doing, man? Direct it...and find a teenager and do it for real! The problem being...we're not as good at "Shakespeare" anymore. Actors are not competent with the language until they are 35 or 40 to really do justice to the language. So I can understand director's getting tempted to cast that older actor...but really, I don't think the theme will ever come through until you see it done by a younger person. I think a lot of "Shakespeare" is like that. They are meant to be younger people and we always cast older actors so it never really works.

And just FYI:
Latest news on the long awaited "Spike" movie...and it seems pretty reliable. Today Joss Whedon was interviewed on BBC Radio Five Live. This is what he said:
Joss: "Right now I've been concentrating on trying to do a movie with Spike. A DVD Movie with Spike. And we're trying to see if that's financially feasible.

Tony Todd talking about "Shadow Puppets"
I really like the film. James Marsters and I became good friends. Rest of the cast is extremely flexible. It was fun. One the most extended, cast and crew, final applause, I've ever had. We had a strange two days, at "Loma Vista", a deserted insane asylum just off the Boyle st. Bridge. six accidents in 48 hours, from heart plapatations, scratched cornea's, Electrician being shocked, whiplash, and our script supervisor fell and broke her foot. But overall everyone was committed, or should've been."
Aww,I knew James and Tony would bond...2 old theater rats like that.

Looking forward to seeing everybody again and meeting new friends in Long Beach. I hope we'll have a full house - I want to show you all off to the other guests joining me. I'm dusting off my tuxedo and getting into shape. I have many new songs to share.
Thanks to everyone who tuned into Smallville. You made me look really good with the network. I know they didn't use me that much, but I did have a good time. I can't wait to see what you all think of Shadow Puppets, which is due out around Halloween. Michael Winnick, Tony Todd, and I will share all the behind the scenes secrets at the Queen Mary. - James
