Slipfighter's Drawings: Nocturnal Edition.  What is it?  This thread is a split from my other thread, which I will continue to update, that contains artwork that's darker, edgier, and perhaps a little sexier than what appears in my other thread.  This thread will contain artwork ranging from PG to R-rated material.  Some pics may contain blood, partial nudity (never complete), or images that may be too dark for younger viewing.  All pictures will be rated and contain a disclaimer of content in the post.

What prompted this thread?  Well, a friend did.  He was looking through some of my drawings the other day, through some of the more recent ones, and turned to me and said, "What's up with these?"  Of course, to say the least, I had no idea what he was talking about.  So I asked him what he meant.  He said, "You filed the edges off your work."  Scratching my head, I still had no idea what he was talking about.  So I asked again.  So he said, "What happened to the dark, edgy atmosphere you used to draw in?"  The first thing that came to mind was: I'm older.  I grew up.  Those were the products of rough teenage years -- a way for me to vent on the page.  I'm older and my art matured with me.  And of course he couldn't leave it at that as he said, "Bulls**t.  You're soft.  You lost your edge." (Teasingly, of course.)  And me, in all my infinite wisdom () was like: Yeah.  So that's what you think, huh?  Shows how little you know.  You want edge?  I'll give you edge.  Ah, wonderful, beautiful pride.  Of course, yes, I was joking back, but then I started to think.  I really haven't drawn a dark, edgy picture in a while.  Why?  Some of the stories I write are dark.  I don't create anything for gratuitous value, so I started wondering why some of my darker characters had slowly lost their edge when their stories call for them to have edge.  Then it came to me: I've been slowly tailoring my characters to my personality instead of to their stories -- I was dictating the characters instead of letting their stories dictate them.  I've leaned to bypass this in my writing, but in the process I let may visual art fall into a state of sameness.  With that I decided I had to go back and try to recapture the ability to draw dark characters, not for the sake of drawing dark characters, but to allow myself to find and maintain a balance in my art -- to let these characters' stories speak to me again... and for me to listen to those stories.

Sounds weird, I know, but it's important for an artist to write and draw what a story wants him or her to write and draw.  It keeps us fresh and filled with ideas.

In this thread, I'll give you a visual tour of both the past and the present as I show you drawings from the past and drawings from now as I draw them.  Some will be my characters (likely most will be) and some will be from existing comic books and other mediums, though the level of talent will vary since the year each drawing was drawn in will vary.  Because some pics may contain images of a darker nature, this thread will remain separate from my other art thread.

So without ado, let's start with a new pic.  This pic was just finished up today.  I dug into one of my darker stories from the mid 1990s, when I was about seventeen, maybe eighteen-years-old.  I dug into this darker story to see how much of the story would come out in the drawing and how much I would dictate.  It was an interesting first attempt.

Disclaimer: Rated R for the depiction of (uncolored) blood dripping off two swords.

Slippy,

It's not bad. I would have liked to have seen this in color.

I appreciate your love for colored art, and I do color on occasion, but pencil art is sort of my medium of choice.  Iíll likely post some more colored pics, though.  I do, however, love and appreciate black and white art, which is why I draw in it a lot.

Thanks for the feedback.

Digital Man, this one's for you.  You asked to see it colored, so I colored it.  This is the same drawing as the first picture posted in this thread, only now it's in color and has a name.  Feedback, as always, in welcome, so chime in if you like.  I present to you:

You had me all prepared for gory naked people, but these are pretty cool, too :p

I do like the coloured ones better, they're very cool looking. Nice hair.

Thank you.  I'm really trying to work on my shadowing.  Glad you like it.  And creepy is probably more what I'm going for in this thread of pics, not so much gory, so it looks like its working.
